View 3 RepliesTrying to set up a datamerge file to create multi page spread documents with fields on different pages. Attempting to set it up so it's as automated as possible as there are up to 20 different merge documents needing to merge with up to 100 different csv records from the same file each week . The merge documents have different and repeated merge fields on most pages.
I've set it up so that the document has facing pages, and most pages have images spread across the whole of the spread. the pages preview fine, they are created ok when using 'Create Merged Document' although the page numbers continue from one document to another (another problem). but when I come to export to pdf, then the merge only shows the image on the left spread but on both left and right spread single pages, and the page numbers don't show the correct page numbers eg it will go p1 p2 p1 p2 etc all the way through the document instead of p1 p2 p3 - p20 etc. I don't want to have to merge first then pdf but can't understand why the images and page numbers are not showing correctly.
In my document, all index entries will come from text located adjacent to an image, or on the facing page. I had planned to create a uniquely named character- or paragraph style for this purpose, and to import all items formatted in that style into the index topic list. Or is there some better method of tagging the captions?
Each figure caption consists of two parts: botanical name and source. If this design works, I propose to format the first part to a unique paragraph or character style, and add that to the index.
if that is the best approach, or other approach, and how best to implement it.
Help files for indexing indicate you can import a topic list. However, there are not details about this. I cannot import a .txt topic list or a list in an ID file.
When they talk about importing a list do they specifically mean one that has already been input into the Index Panel in another ID doc?
I finally paid one of those conversion companies to convert this QuarkXPress file that I was working with to InDesign, since InDesign seems like such a better program. Everything seemed to transfer over smoothly, and I have now been editing this document in InDesign. Unfortuantely, after a bunch of new edits, I realized the one thing that didn't seem to transfer over was the index. The old Quark file had an index with about 900+ entries in it. Is there any quick way to add all those entries back without having to go through the document and highlight the text manually, one by one by one? That would take forever. Pretty much everything that's gonna be indexed is after a paragraph marker of the paragraph style called "gray box."
Also, since each entry is bold, it was set up as having a paragraph style named "title." If IND could find anything with that style and add it as an entry, that may make my job way easier? Or will I be stuck selecting text over the next day and manually adding entries?
I have a multi-page document with different topics, photos, graphs, etc. I've set up multiple text boxes for each topic and placed photos in their own containers.
I need to add about a half page of content to the 2nd page of the document. However... you can't just "press enter" like you would in Word and have everything move down. Do I have to actually move it all manually myself? It makes it even more difficult by the fact I only have half a page of content to insert, so everything that follows will also need to be separated to maintain consistency.
It wouldn't be much of a big deal if I was inserting an entire page of content because I could just insert a page then.
I have on several occasions experienced a crash (more specifically "InDesign has stopped working and needs to close" - that's a crash I think) when moving pages between different InDesign documents (some were converted from CS3, but saved as CS6 files first). It seems to happen only betwixt select files. I have avoided a crash by moving even numbers of pages - but not always. Perhaps I am unaware of some document/spread shuffle setting?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI used separate .indd files to create chapters in a ePub book using CS 5. I upgraded to CS 5.5 and created an ePub from the same files (after conversion), and noticed that the TOC was simply a listing of the filename of each .indd. I checked "Use InDesign TOC Style" under "Content" in the "EPUB Export Options" and selected the proper style, but this made no difference. In CS5, there was an option called "Suppress Automatic Entries For Documents" that eliminated this problem, but for some * dumb * reason Adobe decided to remove that check-box in CS 5.5. So how exactly do I suppress the TOC from listing every filename in CS 5.5 and instead list the selected TOC style?

I would like to export the attributes from each drawing file in my (project folder) from the title-blocks (drawing numbers and descriptions) into excel and then be able to just data link that into my Index table in AutoCAD. I know i could put the info in excel and import it into my table in CAD but i am looking for something more Automatic, so that every time i need to create an index it will automatically extract the info from the drawing files title-blocks.
Using Set Sheet Manager, I am trying to create an Office Standard Sheet Index Table.
I have begun by copying the Standard table and modifying it. I have adjusted the cell styles to reflect our colors and text types and sizes. I have also added two additional columns for revision number and revision date.
I have tried saving the new table ... and inserting a new table through the sheet set manager
the only tables i can bring in include the 2 original columns (sheet number and sheet title) and specified text font, size and color are maintained, but the additional columns and the column width are lost.
Ideally i would like the office format to be maintained...with little or no modification required of the user.
Is it possible to do a multiple-records data merge that doesn't generate multiple text boxes? And if so, how?
For publications such as a directory with contact information, it would be easier to manage the layout by merging multiple records into one text box. However, it seems like the only option in InDesign is to merge the records into each of their own text boxes.
I've got around 400 images in photoshop cs...I basically need to reduce each image size, then alter the canvas size, and save.
My question is, is there a way to do that set of actions once, and then have it automatically applied to the other 399?
I am a total beginner at this vb.net thing. I have a vba routine that I have used for years to execute a lisp routine on an open document, then switch to the next already open document, and continue until the routine has been performed on each already open documents. For the life of me, I cannot figure out how in vb.net to get a document collection and make each document the active document so that I can execute the lisp routine.

Is it possible, when you have three different documents open, to zoom in all three documents simultaneously? Or to move around with the hand tool in all documents simultaneously?

I accidentally hide that bar at top of screen that lets me hide/close multiple documents... I pressed something, but I don't know what - it's tough to hide PS now (Version CS6)

I can't even get the information out of one image file without the old copy and paste one field at a time, and have several hundred to do.
Just to clarify, the info I need is when you rightclick on the title bar and choose file info, and choose "description" then akk the fields on the right.
I'm currently working on a project that requires that I eTransmit a large quantity of files, which is becoming very time consuming. I need writing a script that will allow me to etransmit all of the files at once.
My requirements:
- All .dwgs must be saved as individual .zip files with all references included.
- .zip file must have same name as associated .dwg (basically just swap extensions).
My progress:
- Seems very simple, basically my script is:
Qsave
-eTransmit
-CH
-SetupName
-C
ROADBLOCK!!!!!!! D:<
My problem is that I want to have AutoCAD return the filename sans extension and filepath when I'm prompted to input the filename for the .zip file. How can I do this? I've been looking up options using VBA, but with limited success given.
I'm having a lot of trouble understanding how Adobe Illustrator (CS6) manages character styles imported from different ai documents. If I create all character styles in a single .ai document and only use them in in that document, everything works as expected--colors, fonts, and typography settings are maintained in the character style, and newly added text can be quickly styled with the character style.
My trouble starts when i want to re-use those character styles in a new .ai document. From the character style menu I use the option to import the character styles from another document, and they import correctly--all of the styles work and style text as expected. But then i save & close the document and re-open it to find that the character style entries are there, but the fills and strokes are all messed up--fonts, sizes, typography settings are maintained, but styles with a blue fill are suddenly filed with black, or some other color.
This happens even if the swatches associated with the character styles are imported to the new document as well. I've read that all character styles are based off of the 'normal' character style.
I am having an issues with Photoshop becoming unresponsive. After about 10 minutes Photoshop will not open or create a document. I've disabled opengl in Photoshop with the same results. This error occurs on both CS5 and CS6 versions of Photoshop. I've tried reinstalling Photoshop (not removing and reinstalling, just reinstalling).

View 1 Replies View RelatedAny way to automatically fill a blank document with placed items making it multiple up?
A simple example would be a business card that I designed in InDesign. I have the margins, document size and bleed edges set, I would like to place them multiple up on various sizes to see what size would hold the most to trim. 8up typically go on a letter sized document etc. But now many could I fit on 12"x18", etc.
What I am trying to accomplish not having to align each one manually which is slowing my work flow down. Plus when customers have odd sized documents they want cut and padded etc, having the abilitiy for the software to automatically place items that are all alligned by their trim edges would save a lot of proofing and re laying items out.
The idea comes from my Silouette Cameo personal cutting plotter. The software lets you fill the cut area with a design and it is filled equally.
There has to be a way commercial users can do this with out figuring all the math?
In CS6, will the English version of InDesign still require purchasing a separate program for Japanese, or will it be able to handle both? CS5 and earlier could only handle the most rudimentary of typesetting tasks for Japanese.

What I need to be able to do is insert the SOURCE fieldnames/placeholders throughout a document and then depending on what language I select (either through a text variable, or manual selection), the translated terms are automatically inserted in place.
I'm working with InDesign CS5.5 on a Mac and need to import multiple images into separate layers. The imprint project has a base layer template and several company logos that need to go into their own layer. Is there a way to bring all the logos in at once and have them create their own layer without manually creating each layer and placing images one by one? Can InDesign do this automatically or is there a script? I can't seem to find a way to automate this process.
