View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm extremely new to scripting; I managed to create a script to extend the artboard of my documents (which I was extremely proud of given my inexperience!) and another to align a couple of objects alongside each other, but my attempts to script some new code has met with failure.
Firstly, I need some Illustrator CS4 Javascript code that will create a bounding rectangle for the selected object(s). The selected object(s) will always be rectangular; no irregularly-shaped objects. I know this should be simple, but I can't work out the variables/attributes involved.
Secondly, some code to select the leftmost object in a document. And the equivalent for the rightmost object.
If it makes any difference, I'll be stitching these scripts together with an action to achieve the following workflow.
Two EPS files are dragged into an empty document as 'Linked Files'.The two Linked Files are aligned alongside each other. (Using a script I've already written.)The leftmost Linked File is selected and has a bounding rectangle created, which is then used to mask the Linked Object. The rightmost Linked File is then selected and has a bounding rectangle created, which is then used to mask the Linked Object. Both masked Linked Files are selected, and a bounding rectangle is created to mask them into the same Clipping Mask group. The artboard is set to the dimensions of this combined masked pair (I've managed to write that script already). The Linked Files are embedded into the document.
The reason for this is because we have EPS map files exported from AutoCAD that are left- and right-hand pages. These need to be combined into one file, but when they are brought in they lose their masks as the BBOX element is not recognised by Illustrator. The double-masking in my process above is needed to ensure that content from either map doesn't overlap the other half of the map.
My rectangle tool is MISSING from illustrator cc. How can I get it back?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWith the Rectangle Tool's cursor is clicked in the document. The Rectangle Panel appears. A height dimension is entered. With the pointer, the Width field is clicked. Usually, the Height Value gets automatically entered in the Width field. In this case it does not.
This same behavior is occuring in the Ellipse Tool.

I'm working in a CMYK workspace on a vector graphic with multiple shapes. The above photo is a portion of the graphic as it appears in Illustrator. There are only three color swatches being used.
When I export the file to a PNG, this is what happens:
The two shapes that make the creases of the hand come out a dull color that looks as though the opacity was lowered. I'm using the exact same color swatch for these two shapes as I am for the other blue areas seen in the photo. I've even tried to retrace the two shapes entirely, but I had the same result. My guess is that it has something to do with the yellow area, but I don't understand why it would be having trouble when the yellow shape in the bottom-left corner functions normally when a blue shape is placed in front of it.
The rectangle tool is drawing at 90 degrees. I tried to fix it with the preferences>general>constrain angle, but I see that is ALREADY set to 0 degrees, yet the rectangle is 90 degrees! Is there another setting I should be aware of?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a situation where the default behavior of my rectangle tool (or any of the other shape tools) is now different. I'm on Mac OS X 10.6.5 running Illustrator CS5. It acts as though the option-shift keys are pressed, so whenever I draw an object, it draws from the center point and the dimensions are constrained, so i can only draw a square or circle, not a rectangle or ellipse. Additionally, whenever I use the selection tool, it clones the object I drag, and also constrains the positioning, so i can only drag in a 0, 45 or 90 degree angle (or multiples thereof). It's as if my option-shift keys are permanently pressed (if I actually press option-shift, the behavior persists). I tried using a different (brand new) keyboard, tried throwing away preferences, and the problem remains. I also tried booting up Illustrator CS4, and the weird problem showed up there! This behavior just started happening spontaneously. I couldn't think of anything weird that happened (a crash, a new plug-in, etc.). I can't find a preference that sets this behavior either.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I click the select tool, a brown selection type of rectangle appears in a particular area of the illustration, even though I have not clicked on the illustration yet. I assume it is some type of warning indication, but don't know what. P.S. It is draggable and scaleable - I can move it off the artboard. An example:

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I use the Marquee tool, or the single row marquee I have perfect borders in my forms, but when instead I use the rectangle tool, the line tool or the elipse tool I have these strange borders that are not well delimited.
I have already deleted the default settings, but still continues the same.
When I click and drag with the direct selection tool, I'm getting a drag on the object rather than a marque for selecting points. As soon as I click, the tool switches to the black arrow tool. Did I mess up a setting somewhere? I'm not using any modifier keys.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe problem that I am having is whenever I try to create a rectangle with no fill, there is a shadow on the inside of the rectangle. Furthermore, if I make the border very thin, there is an issue with transparency. I'll let the attachment pictures speak for themselves, basically I just want these rectangle borders to be solid lines.
I'm using Photoshop CS6 on a Mac.
I know how to do it in Fireworks, but want to use PS to achieve the task ... so basically want to create an empty box, circle or whatever shape with a border x pixels wide.
The way I do it right now is to make a black rectangle, then fit a smaller white rectangle inside it, and delete the overlapping black area, that leaves me with just an outline of whatever width I choose.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an image that is the birds eye view to some homes. I want to use the rectangle tool to draw a rectangle around a home and rotate it. How would I use the rectange tool to do that?
I want the rectangle to not fill with a color, instead, the fill would be transparent, but the border would be red. Then I'd like to rotate it some?
How do I do all that? I can click on the rectangle tool in the toolbox. Then click and draw a rectangle. The box fills with a color and covers whatever is underneath it, then I go over to opacity in the layer and bring it down to 0. That then shows what's underneath it. Is that the right approach?
How do I create a red border? How do I rotate the rectangle?
I can't seem to get the shapes (rectangle tool) to work.
