GIMP :: Creating Filled Rectangle Without Using Bucket Fill Tool

View 3 RepliesGIMP 2.8.6 on Window 8.I used Canvas Size to add a horizontal space at the bottom of a jpeg photo. (I want to use it for a text caption for the photo.) The new space is filled with a checkerboard of small light & dark grey squares.
I used the Rectangle Select Tool to select the new space.I clicked on the Bucket Fill Tool and moved the mouse over the new space. The mouse pointer includes a circle with a diagonal stroke through it, indicating I cannot fill the selected area.
i'm basically making a shape with the pen tool, then i click the paint bucket, then the shape disappears. i've also done this with the rectangle tool and the exact same thing happens.
usually, it will work when i frst open the document, but after i start making new layers/text then i try to do this, the shape i make disappears.
how i can keep the shape so i can select the paint bucket tool?
How do I bucket fill the way Paint does, where it fills every thing of a similar color? (or every thing adjacent, I don't remember.) It keeps filling my entire canvas, instead of the area I want.

I'm coming from paint.net, which is bloating tif images to the extreme......I work on tif's for work (engineering revisions) as well as multi-page tifs.Needless to say, I need to get up to speed on Gimp as fast as possible, as work places don't like a learning curve The image editor used by others is atrocious.
I see the Gimp will open multi-page tifs, but how do I save them back as multi-page? Or is this not possible?
And how do I go about drawing a filled rectangle? A good deal of my work is digitally "whiting out" things on technical drawings. I see the brush tool, but not a filled rectangle.
I have an image that has a white background but that darkens in the immediate neighborhood of the image in question. So I do a bucket fill (red) with the threshold of 15 that sets the entire white(ish) area to red. So far so good. But then when I switch to fill this red area to white with the same threshold, I find small pixels of red adjacent to the image. I don't see how that is happening since the first fill set the entire filled region to one color (red) and I would expect that the second fill would completely replace all red with my new color (white).
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a PNG logo that has anti-aliased letters on a transparent background. In other words, all pixels are white (for example) and either 0% transparent (in the letters) or semi-transparent (in the anti-aliasing). The rest of the image is transparent.
What I'm trying to do is take change the color of the logo. Bucket fill in normal mode changes the alpha value of the semi-transparent pixels to 0% transparent when applying the color--so I loose the anti-aliasing. I did manage to get what I want with bucket fill mode Darken only, but this only works for certain colors on certain other colors (I can change white to any other color, but not vice versa).
Is there a straightforward way to fill a color while keeping the alpha channel intact? I tried all the modes, and also modifying the Fill transparent areas, but don't really understand them to figure out if one does this in the general case.
Is it possible to fill an area with content-aware using the paint bucket tool? i have been able to fill the exact area I would like to be replaced with a general swatch. perhaps it is possible to create a swatch which uses the content-aware filter?
View 5 Replies View RelatedFirst off, I am in RGB mode, with Photoshop Elements 6. I am trying to fill in an area of the business center (the building on the left) in my drawing but it is going over both the door lines and the text on the building. With the student center (the building on the right), it does the same with any of the grey lines (but not the text). And this is all under one layer (They used to be made up of multiple layers but were merged into one). What should I do? Here is a picture of it down below:
View 2 Replies View Relatedstep 1) I remove the background of my image with the color to alpha method, isolating the part of the image i want.
step 2) I then use color select tool to select all the transparent area that was left behind from step 1.
step 3) I create a new layer.
step 4) Then I use the bucket fill tool to fill in the area on the 2nd layer that was selected in step 2.
This is where I run into trouble. On some pixels where the color filling meets dotted line area (made by color select tool) the color comes out translucent. I don't want this to happen. I want it to be solid ff00ff (color hex) without the random reductions in opacity.
I'm working with sprites and the emulator i use has ff00ff as transparent. I'm getting random pink color coming out of the edges of my sprites. These little specks of pink should not be appearing in game because it is supposed to be read as transparent. i suspect that these specks coming out are related to these translucent hiccups made in gimp.

How can I use the bucket-fill option to fill an area surrounded by a dottedline?
The dotted line is a path; so if I use a line for the dots, the bucket-fillworks.
But how can I step back after filling to change the path's line into dotsagain?
On a new layer, I used the line and curve tools to draw the outline of a human figure. I want to fill the shape with a color. However, I can't figure out how to select the entire figure so that I can fill it using the Paint Bucket tool. How can I do that?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI`m still using Xara X1... and am having two issues with the rectangular tool.
First, the rectangle draws on an angle, almost more like a diamond. I would like it to draw parallel to a horizon.
Second, the rectangle draw includes a linear fill. I would like to lose that parameter so that the rectangle can be a simple solid color that I can choose for myself.
I've been having an issue with the paint bucket tool; when I fill in an area with the tool it leaves a thin white border between the area and any lines drawn with the paintbrush tool.
(see attachment) how this can be remedied? Since I'm working on a comic and going back over every line filling in the color takes far too much time.
These gradients in gimp are really hard to figure out (not saying other things seem easy to me), however I'm sure if one knows what to do, they can solve many problems.
I had that screenshot of a text list:
And I wanted to make it fade away from the highlighted line:
However, with the blend tool, this is actually impossible or really really hard, because I can't aim it so preciselly.
Why is my rectangle tool creating skewed rectangles in Adobe Illustrator CC?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhy is my rectangle tool leaving a trail of rectangles and not creating just one? Did I bump a setting by accident. How do I get the rectangle tool back to normal?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have Photoshop CS and I am not sure how to create a rectangular box (in the corner of a photo) with a black border of about 3px, and the inside of the box should be colored in an orange-yellow gradient.
Then I want to create another rectangular box (in a different corner of the same photo), again with a black border of about 3px, and the inside of the box should be a straight white.
I have tried it using the rectangular marquee tool and then going to Edit | Stroke (3 px), but the border itself is colored orange/yellow. I click the gradient tool and that part seems OK, but I end up with an orange/yellow gradient framed by a yellow border - and not a black one.
The file we generated is on the right side of the image, in both PREVIEW and OUTLINE views. You can see that letters "I" in the logos are boxes and the bottom horizontal stripe is a filled box. In the art file they received, the capital letters "I" in the art and the horizontal box have become paths with DASHES applied.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am creating a simple spider for a project. Initally I used the pen tool to make legs. It worked for a bit then all the sudden started filling in an area I didn't even draw with color. I'm not sure what I did to cause this to happen.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am brand new to web design and I have Web Designer 6.0. I've looked at video instructions and can not figure this out. I am trying to group a simple rectangle filled with color to some text that will make the rectangle in the background, the text in front, and be one object. It says choose both objects and then group them, but I can choose the rectangle or the text, but not both. I know this is a simple thing to do, but I'm brand new and can't figure it out.
View 5 Replies View RelatedHow do I get it so that when I draw a shape it will fill with color? In my options bar there is a rectangle with color where I can choose that, but sometimes that's not up. How do I pull it up?
How do I fill a canvas with color without having to cover it with a large rectangle to fill? I've gotten answers to this but none has solved the problem.
I'm brand new to GIMP, I just downloaded it to get into some simple pixel art.
I was going fine, but I've run into a problem. I'm trying to select a portion of my image using the rectangle tool, and then move it to a different location using the move tool. However, when clicking and dragging the move tool it shifts the entire image, not just the portion I have selected. I read in the FAQ that you need to press "Enter" to finalise the selection before you move it, but even doing that doesn't work.
This was working fine for me earlier, I'm not sure what I've done to break it. I've tried resetting my tool preferences back to defaults but that has not worked.
I am trying to use the rectangle tool to select a rather specific area. I am trying to make a 50x50 square in the bottom left corner, but I don't know how I would accomplish this.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been wondering how do you get the rectangle select tool to move the image, like in mspaint whenever I use it, it just moves the rectangle square and not the selected part of the image.

I'm looking to fill in those 3 colors with three colors that I have designed myself.
I used the eyedropper to pick up colors from other files and tried to fill the shapes. No matter what I've done - even using the pen tool to close in the shape the fill goes all over the whole page.
When I fill in the colors how can I also keep the 3-D effect?
using PS CS. i have selected a circular area with the marquee tool on a transparent background and i want to fill that area with colour, using the paintbucket tool i attempt to fill area but what happens when i do this is it acts like a spray can does, dark colour in the centre fading aways towards the edges also it does not actually fill the selected area it's as if i have not selected it, but i have.
View 2 Replies View RelatedRecently upgraded to Gimp 2.8 for the single window mode (which worksbrilliantly in Ubuntu, especially with the HUD).
But the Rectangle Select Tool has a new - but odd - behaviour. When I drawa selection, and then add to that selection, a new "square" is position atmy cursor. (See attached screenshot.) This didn't happen in 2.6 and is abit irritating because it disorientates me slightly, especially if I'mworking quickly.
Is there a way to turn that off (or revert it to the 2.6 way)?

I am trying to get this done since last few days but could not
Ok here is the problem, I need a rectangle see attached file with different RGB colors at all four corners and also middle. I have mentioned the RGB on the image.
The new cage tool is fantastic to solve the following problem.
I take a photo with the smartphone of a book page. I need two hands for this. The page does not lies flat (see [URL].... because no more hands available to keep the page flat (and no glass sheet at hand...). Using the cage tool with 3 nodes above and 3 below the text produces an acceptable result see [URL]....
Question: Is there any better method? Any GIMP plugin or even Android app to solve this problem?
I can trace the deformed rectangle that enclose the page text, but then I don't know how to pass this info to the cage tool and ask to make it a real rectangle.
I have a banner that I got from a vector eps file.
Now what I would like to do is fill the white background of the outline path...
