Illustrator :: Prevent Multiple People From Opening The Same AI CS6 File?
Nov 22, 2013I have a file that is the reference AI CS6 file. I am working in it, then a team member opened it - no warning - then he saved, not knowing I was in it. We lost work as AI gets confused. I don't understand why there isn't a read only like other programs. we are on a server and there has to be a way to know if it is being used? Saves phone calls and time and...depending on who saves when...we lose work. I must be missing something with CS6.

Jun 19, 2013We are currently using Inventor 2013 without Vault and I discovered that multiple users can open the same IPT file at the same time with no warning message or read only access like we get in Autocad. We have 6 designers all using the same Project that is a single user project. We normally don't have more than no person working on the same part or assembly, but it did happen. Two designers opened the same file to make separate changes not knowing that the other was in the file. Not until one of them went to save the file did he know someone else was also in the file. When he went to save the file he then got a warning - "A later version of this file has been saved by (user). Saving the file would overwrite changes, which is not allowed. If you wish to preserve your changes, use the Save Copy As command." In Autocad if you try to open a file that someone else has open you get the warning right away and are forced to open it read only or not at all. Is there a way to set Inventor to do the same thing? Other than using Vault and having to checkin/checkout every file. Our six designers work on an average of 50+ parts per week and many times have multiple files open at the same time to use as reference. Also the shop floor opens our files to use for programming and asking them to checkin/checkout files would not be received well. The shop floor has "read only" rights as determined by our network. Does our network settings determine if more than one person can open the same file?

Sep 13, 2013I've found some very good scripts like the MultiExporter.js by Matthew Ericson and Export Layeres as PNG files by Johan Otterud, however none that quite fit our needs. We need an Illustrator script that takes an AI file and spits out an .eps, .jpg (for print), multiple .png sizes for web, and .pdf. We have an extensive download library for members that constantly change and rotate with new logos, print materials and other graphics.
I was hoping that there was some kind of script that would cut some time off of exporting all the different versions each time.
AutoCad :: Multiple Users Versus 1 File
Mar 14, 2013issue, more than 1 user needing to work on the same file. Of course this can create problems, like time mangement or users creating their own copies of files which leads to confusion about revisions etc.
I've looked into the possibility of using 'shared' files which updates edits made from multiple users but so far a solution has proved elusive. The only thing I found is called CadVault, but I don't think this does what I would like.
I got the idea from using shared Excel documents and it seems to work well, and IMO, CAD is the typical kind of application that requires this kind of manipulation, but I've never worked for a company that uses such a method. I'm baffled by the lack of information / support for this, unless I'm overlooking something.

I have vista with fax capabilites when I get a fax it opens in photoshop. THen I can only see the 1st page.
All other files that would open a lot quicker in Paint are opening in Photoshop which takes a lot more time to appear.

Revit :: Multiple Users - Create Local File Tab Is Grayed Out
Sep 12, 2013We have just installed a new server at work. We have transfered all of our Revit files to the server and resaved them as central files. We cannot seem to create more than one local file per Revit file even though we have already set up the file as a worksharing file. The one that sets up the Revit file is the only one that can create the local file. For the other user the create local file tab is grayed out.

Jan 24, 2013We're a college and we're having trouble with Photoshop CS6 opening for 4 [at the moment] individual users. The error follows them from mac to mac, but another ue can log on after them and everything works fine, so it must somehow be linked to their profiles, but we've reset/deleted these and it's made no difference. I've attached screenshots of the 4 error messages they get. because at the moment these students cannot do their work properly?

Mar 4, 2011Map 3d 2011.User A connects to SDE using FDO and creates a dwg containing Mastermap data and other shape files held in SDE.User A saves Map 3D dwg on network drive that all users can access where all acad dwgs, docs etc. for that project are stored.
User B who is working on the same project at another PC tries to open the Map 3D dwg created by user A from the shared network drive but gets a "Failed to open FDO connection" error and cannot open the dwg.
Is this because Map 3D caches all data from SDE on the local drive of the PC on which the dwg was created?Is there a way around this to allow both users to access the same drawings?

Feb 26, 2014I'm currently on CS6 but I'm looking for a solution that can also work on CS5 for a co-worker.
Having multiple artboards has been established since CS4 and I have yet to see an official way of resizing multiple artboards, if anything there should at least be a plug-in.
As great of a feature it is, it seems a little short sited. If one has multiple artboards one should be able to manage multiple artboards, right?
I totally love having multiple artboards but I should be able to resize and manage multiple artboards as well. This is great for building icon sets but how can I resize the set all at once?
I was considering trying to do an action but odds are I still would have to select an artboard one by one to do which doesn't save much time if you have like 30 artboards to apply this to. I don't even see a batch render for artboards and Photoshop has that for its files.

Oct 25, 2012Illustrator has the 'Transform Each' dialog, but it only allows you to scale multiple objects by specifying a percentage. Is there any way to specify the size in pixels? More specifically, imagine I have 10 rectangles on my canvas, and I want them all to be of a specific height. The rectangle position on the canvas matters, so I can't do the 'vertical align to top and then resize group height' trick - they need to be resized in place.

Oct 21, 2013I have a user that is attempting to open multiple files at once in IllustratorCC. When you select multiple files and right click -> open, it only opens one file. If she double clicks a file while there is a file open in illustrator, nothing happens. The only way she has found to open multiple files is to go to file->open->browse to location for each file. This is quite time consuming. Is there anyway to enable being able to quickly open multiple files similiar to how older versions of Illustrator did?

May 29, 2008I am working in Illustrator CS (but this also happens when I open the file in CS3). I am on a Mac.
When I choose "open" or when I double click a particular file in the finder to open it, Illustrator opens two copies of it. FYI, the original file is named "AuroraTank.ai" But, when Illustrator opens the file, it opens one copy as "AuroraTank.ai:1" and the other "AuroraTank.ai:2". If I edit one of them it makes the changes simultaneously on both.
All of my files do not open this way so I must have saved it with a certain setting? What did I do to make Illustrator behave like this and how do I stop it?

Aug 21, 2013My project crashed. I tried reopening it, but from then I've been getting the following error messages. While restarting my system or AE usually works, this time the project wouldn't reopen no matter how I approached this.
Steps I've taken so far:
-Restarting my computer.
-Restarting After Effects
-Importing the .aep file into AfterEffects
-Opening the file on a different computer.
-Trashing preferences and reopening the Project in AfterEffects.
-Opening one of my 5 at a 15 minute interval generated Auto-save files.
All result in the same error.

The final message can't be clicked away and when I click the exit button at the top right of the application the application crashes and prompts me with a default windows error screen.

And when I try to open any photo in PS CC from Bridge CC I get asked if I want to save that file before I close PS CC. With no alternative to do anything else.
