Xara :: Prevent Resizing Of Image For End Users?
Aug 13, 2013
Any way to prevent an end user from changing the aspect ratio of an image - in this case, a company logo? I recently designed a new logo for our company, but the persons responsible for applying it to certain marketing materials have been stretching it and making it look different on pretty much every piece of media.

If I export text to PDF my font become BOLD and does not look like in Xara. I used Arial font. Is it possible to prevent Xara from embedding font when exporting to PDF? I deselected that option in export settings, however, it still does it.
(it does not do that only if I select first option when exporting to PDF called Draft Quality, however, in this mode pictures are in low resolution)

I am completely unable to get a couple of the photos to resize to where they will print in an 8x10 (960x768) format. No matter what I do, they're either cut off or they're distorted. I know the problem is that the original jpg file from my camera is not exactly the right proportions but isn't there some way to correct that using DPX?
In the three above, the people on the ends are cut off when I order the prints, despite my edits and resize efforts. In this one, the print comes out distorted because the sides are squashed in when it is printed at the store.

I need to make a banner with animation. I'm trying to put a dog picture into it. I have downloaded a few but when I tried to resize them they are not retain their shape, example when I try to shrink the top downwards or vice versa the picture itself has been distorted.
Is there anyway that can be maintained for the original picture shape.
I was using an earlier version of that a graphic designer and have upgraded to version 9, I never had any problem resizing image in the previous version.

This is an anomaly that i've noticed for several versions of Xara. example: type tool> type a word, 8pt
Artistic Text looks correct 8pt size but, When scaling the type by dragging from any corner node the text will stretch vertically! I then have to go back and resize the type.

I'm looking at the expanded DTP functionality in XDP9 and have question about resizing columns.
Say I wanted 2 columns that were different widths - I would open up the 'A4 1-Column' template, select the Text tool, right-click inside the column, take the 'Columns...' option, increase Number of columns to 2 then adjust each columns width as desired by dragging the red corner handles. The problem here is that it is very easy to inadvertently alter a columns height because it's very difficulty to move a mouse horizontally without wavering a little bit vertically up or down. Is there a constrainer keyboard key or some other method that ensures vertical movements are ignored?

I have made a couple pretty nice text images, for friends, and myself. Many times this text image will have a border and consequently a transparency along a corner of the image because they are not always perfectly rectangle.
The problem is the images keep saving with a fine white line at the corner's of my image. How can I make this sharper so it doesn't have this white edge that stands out from the image?

I am drawing an as-built plan and utilizing a scanned image of the plan as a go by. The image is referenced into the drawing. Sometime I want to turn the image off by selecting it and clicking "show image" icon on the show image > options tab. After turning the image off, if I forget to unselect the image before continuing, I risk deleting the image and creating an unreferenced image.
I thought i could solve the problem by locking the layer the image in on, but then I can not turn the image on and off!

I am using PSP X4.
I am working with transparent images. An example is the image below. I've added borders so you can see what I'm doing.
As you can see, the background is solid white, but the image itself is primarily white. I want only the background to be transparent.
I've dabbled with the GIF Optimizer feature to make the background transparent, but part of the actual image becomes transparent also, since it contains white.
One thing I tried doing was use the color replacer to change the white background to another color, but in doing so, some of the image itself changes to yellow, despite my trying to avoid that.
Is it possible to configure PSP so that only the background is transparent? If so, what's the most practical method?

What I have is an alias bitmap (Not anti-alias bitmap) in Phtoshop, when I save it as psd format (photoshop format), the bitmap is preserved. But when I save it as gif or png or whatever, the bitmap become blurs around the edges, making the images be anti-alias bitmap. I don't want that. I want the images to continue to stay alias when saving it into jpeg or png or whatever.

There seems always to be an uncompressed compatibility image in 32-bit PSD and PSB, and in 32-bit layered TIFF. That's regardless of Maximum Compatibility being disabled when saving. If Maximum Compatibility is enabled, there correctly is an uncompressed composite in the file.
If Maximum Compatibility is disabled, there's an overhead equivalent to an uncompressed image with the document's size. I reckon the all-white compatibility image is uncompressed! If any image should be compressed, that surely is it. What a ridiculous waste of storage space. An unnecessary consumption of hundreds of MB per document in many cases.
This uncompressed compatibility image would explain why an embedded 32-bit PSB which stores the IBL of a 3D Layer consumes the enormous storage of a large uncompressed 32-bit image despite it being compressible to a few hundred KB.

I converted 5D Mark III Raw files to DNG with Adobe DNG Converter 7.4. When I import the DNGs into LR I noticed that the total pixel count has been significantly reduced. The original Raw images are 22 megapixels (5760 x 3840), the DNG files are 10.5 megapixels (3960 x 2460). I tried it without lossy compression, and with Lossy compression (making sure preserve pixel count was selected). Either way the image's pixel count is reduced. How do I avoid loosing half the image?

All my images are 3008x2000, and I want to resize them down to a smaller scale for a web site. I know there must be a simple math equation to use to figure out what size would be safe where the images keep their proportion correct. In other words, at 3008x2000, if I reduce to 600x400, it looks out of proportion.

I want to take a screenshot and print it under 300 resolution, but everytime I paste it into Photoshop (after I take the screenshot via CONTROL+PRINTSCREEN button), it comes out as 3x2 inches, which is too small. I would like it to be 6x7 inches, but the only way I can think to do that, is if I resize the 3x2 inch image, to 6x7 inches. This makes the image a little blurry, so I sharpen it up a little bit.

I have just moved on to Ps in CS4 from Ps 7.
I have just opened up an image from a file in order to resize it for placing into an InDesign document.
The image is 16cm (1986p) x 15cm (1812) at 300dpi.
I resized it to 3cm wide at 300 dpi with the following boxes checked: scale styles/constrainproportions/resample image/bicubic.
But the image is very pixellated when reduced and taken into ID, even tho reduced in size from the original. I've done this dozens of times in Ps 7 abd never had this happen.

I have an image that is very large. It is 4064 x 2704 px. I want to resize it so that I can use it for the header on my blog. I need it to be about 200 x 600 px. I have tried to resize it and when I do it becomes kind of blurry and distorted looking. I am assuming this is because of how large the image is initially.
is there a way to resize it this much and it still be sharp and not stretched looking.

If I open a .psd file with an alpha channel and resize it via Image Size to a smaller version and then save it again, the alpha channel is no longer detected in the new .psd file. I've tried deleting the alpha channel and re-creating it but it just doesn't seem to get recognized as having alpha transparency when I open it in other software (e.g., Preview on OS X). (note: I'm using CS5). It's specifically only happening through a resize using Image Size and not via Canvas Size.
