Since upgrading to CS6: when I re-open Illustrator CS6 files, I find that effects such as dropshadow, etc. are rasterized as images or other elements that I can't edit as "effects". I'm the single author of these files, so they're being edited on the same computer and in the same program version. Why this is happening, and how to prevent it? It's really slowing me down.

I noticed drop shadow and outer glow get expanded, but not inner glow. also if I make the outerglow effect in cs4, open it in cs6, use it as a style, it stays live. once if I edit it, it gets rasterized. is this normal behavior? if so, is there documentation as to what effects are backward compatible?

I have a file in layers that I saved in xcf so that I could later edit the layers. However, when I re-opened the file I discovered I could not edit some of those layers.
Previously I saved-as the file under another name so I could export it as a flattened bitmap. It is those layers that I cannot edit in the original xcf file.
They show up in the layers box and I can highlight them, even turn off visibility. But I cannot select them on the file and edit them. I've tried raising the layers to the top of the layer stack, but that makes no difference.
I have a file that is the reference AI CS6 file. I am working in it, then a team member opened it - no warning - then he saved, not knowing I was in it. We lost work as AI gets confused. I don't understand why there isn't a read only like other programs. we are on a server and there has to be a way to know if it is being used? Saves phone calls and time and...depending on who saves when...we lose work. I must be missing something with CS6.
View 1 Replies View Relatedthe logos i created are suddenly no longer editable, neither paths nor text! i can select each element with the selection tool but anchor points don't show up so i can't edit them, and i can't select the text itself to edit it. nothing's locked, i've ungrouped everything, i can see the specs for everything. yesterday i used save to web a couple of times. today i started recreating the logos and it happened again after i exported (not save to web) once or twice. and today i can select the paths, but they're no longer a single path but a tracing, as if it was bitmapped and then traced. but i haven't rasterized or traced. and the type is still unselectable and uneditable as type. it happened again after updating. i have since reinstalled and reupdated, but i still have to re-create all four logos - and it's possible it could happen again! as it is, one "unrasterized" version of the logos allows me to select the paths but doesn't show the anchor points - and still won't let me edit the text.

I designed it for a customer (belongs to us) they did not contract/pay us for it. We do all of their clothing. She is sponsoring an event and the event coordinator wants the logo to put it on their advertising. Just don't want it to end up on other clothes.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I open my eps filel, which is a business card created by an outside designer, I get a checkered card and I am unable to see anything (it says rasterized generic eps format). I can open other documents, but not this one.
What can I do to see it correctly? If I hit cancel, the screen goes blank and no card shows; if I say okay, it shows checkered.
I saved a file last night and now this morning I get an error message stating: "Photoshop CS5.1 Extended: Could not complete your request because there are too many Files Open. Try closing some windows and try again.". I've rebooted the system and made sure Photoshop was the only program running and that there were no other files open prior to trying to open my file. I increased Photoshops ram usage, checked the OpenGL settings, 3D and VRAM settings, cleared my temp files and am at a loss for opening this file.

File specs:
1 3D object replicated maybe 5 times (yes, I should have rasterized them, and will do that to 4 of them if I get the file open)Maybe 8 textures..Not sure how many total layers.

I am trying to create contour cut lines on rasterized images using Illustrator CS4. I have been changing the PNG files to TIFF files and saving with preserve transparency and then placing them in Illustrator. From there I live trace a copy to make a vector outline of the image, but I am uncertain what to do to make it so that I can upload my file into FlexiSign, make contour lines from that file, print, and cut. Everytime I save the file into AI format and bring it into FlexiSign it just contour cuts a rectangle around the image instead of making an actual outline of the picture.

View 2 Replies View RelatedPlacing an bitmapped .eps file from Photoshop, sometimes the file comes in at the dpi it was saved at, (say, 1.25 inches wide and 1200 dpi) and sometimes at 72 dpi (and a couple of feet wide).
Is there something the creator of the .eps file has set in photoshop that is causing Illustrator to interpret the incomoing dpi?
I realize a 1.25 inch 1200 dpi file has the same information as a 26+ inch 72 dpi file, but it causes an extra key stroke (a recorded action to resize the placed file). Not all the time, just some times.
I open the customer's .eps file in Illustrator and it opens at 72dpi/26 inches.
I open the customer's .eps file in photosohp, hit "save" and open it in Illustrator at 1200dpi./1.25 inches.

I have applied a 3D>Extrude and Bevel on my text. Now problem is that when doing it, my border(part that is extruded) causes a color banding, since it rasterizes the gradients. See my image below.
How do I take away those nasty lines?
Whenever i save a file, and then try to open it later on, it wont open. Nothing happens (just like I haven't clicked anything). It does this is I double click the file or I do File >Open. However if i save the file as 'Version 13' it opens fine. I decided to re-install Corel Draw (a number of times), but the problem is still there!

I tried using different standard fonts, but result is the same. Aslo when I export it for high quality printing, the resulting pdf document also show the red text somewhat rasterized. (Does not appear smooth red).
I have a problem with copy paste from illustrator to photoshop. The pasted picture/element is rasterized and not sharp. I have this problem with vector element too.

The error message reads "cannot complete your request because of a program error" -- it is a very large file (I have been saving it all along) and I had just "flattened layers" and went to open up a new, blank photo file when it shut down. But now i feel I have this 3D product (the file itself) in it which I really want to use in After effects to create an animation and fully take advantage of it 3Dness, spin it around, etc. I want to make a product showcase of it, but I am not able to do it.

For some reason when I place new text or line work in a file it is fine, but when I save the drawing, close it and re-open it all of the text and line work found in model space goes gray. Yet if I place new text and use the match property command on text placed previously, that is now gray, and use it on new text, the new text recieves the attributes of what the previously placed text has minus the appearance of being gray. In my drawing I am using a shape file and a data connect image through planning and analysis.

I have ported the plugin using the exact same Live Effect name and the same parameter names to the live effect dictionary of the art.This in the hope that when I open the illustrator file in CS5 the effect will continue to work on converted text art.
But when I open an Illustrator 10 file in Illustrator CS5, the text object comes up with an "<Unknown>" live effect entry in the Appearance panel. And as the text is converted from legacy text to new ATE-text, the result of the live effect is also gone.
Studying the contents of the illustrator files, I find the following in the Illustrator 10 file

it isn't working because the name of the plugin file is different (or is it another reason?)It's a bit tricky because I have now combined several filters and live effects from several earlier plugins into a single new plugin.
It is easy to receive a notification upon opening a document and check if it's an earlier version of Illustrator.But how do I go about tracing the art tree to "upgrade" these live effects to the current plugin?
When converting a vector or Illustrator file (such as a logo) into a shape layer any gradient fill is lost. Is there no way to ensure the gradient fill is converted across or is this a matter for a future release of After Effects?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a rectanlgle the same size as the artboard. I added a 2px border around the rectangle. It is centered vertically and horizontally to the artboard. When I save it as a PNG(save for web) the border gets cut off.

for example,
i have a base file with x-1,x-2,x-3 layers. when i xref the base file into a main file, i only want x-1 & x-3 layer to show up in the main file.
is there any way to control what layers can be see in xref with out using freeze/off commands.
What I have is an alias bitmap (Not anti-alias bitmap) in Phtoshop, when I save it as psd format (photoshop format), the bitmap is preserved. But when I save it as gif or png or whatever, the bitmap become blurs around the edges, making the images be anti-alias bitmap. I don't want that. I want the images to continue to stay alias when saving it into jpeg or png or whatever.

All other files that would open a lot quicker in Paint are opening in Photoshop which takes a lot more time to appear.
