I am trying to redesign these cupcakes. I am wondering how do I get the thinner endings of the lines that eventually become thicker as the line extends? You can see it on the frosting lines and smiles. I am using Illustator 10.

What is the best way to make a fixed font thinner?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am designing a logo, and have used a gimp script to create (a) the text that I need, and (b) a ring to enclose it. The ring is in a separate layer with a transparent background (I set the entire background to Alpha), and it surrounds the text. I created the ring using a script to transform a letter 'O' into a 'glassy' style object, which I then resized into an oval of the correct size and shape using the 'scale layer' tool.
The logo looks OK, but would be much improved if I could make the surrounding ring thinner. The ring has a 'glassy' effect which is just what I want, but it is a little on the chunky side. It would look much better if I could transform it to be about half the thickness that it currently is, to match the slimmer text inside the ring. I would like to do this without losing the 'glassy' effect of the ring.
I have already tried creating the ring with the thinnest font I could find that gave me the right shape, but this doesn't go quite far enough. Is there any way that I can thin the ring so that it keeps it's size, position and 'glassy' effect, but ends up with a thickness of about 50% of it's current width? Effectively, I just want to transform a fat ring into a skinny ring!
When using Liquify, I used to have a circle (brush) to use to make objects thinner, now all I see is a cross which does not work.

I outlined my text and subtracted it (and the tree image) from the black background. When I did this both appear thinner - particularly the tree.
If I then take the original version and the new subtracted version, and view them both overlayed one on top of the other in wire frame (outline) mode, there is no difference in the actual lines.
It seems to be a problem with the way illustrator previews the images. This wouldn't concern me, but when I export the file as a jpeg, the lines also appear thinner in the export.
I can create a manual solution by offsetting the path before subtracting, but this isn't ideal.
Im fairly new with illustrator, when i try and use live paint by selecting the brush strokes then going object > live paint > make, it makes my strokes really thin and it is really annoying

How can i make it auto line alignment in ScriptUI?
Left: 'vertical align bottomed text with the box of black stroke
Right: manually moved text with smart guide to align with its base line.(what I want to achieve)
As you can see in the left one, text has its base line under itself, and its bounding box doesn't match its base line. when I use align, it doesn't align using its base line but its bounding box.How can I make text align using their base line easily?
I'm new to Illustrator and perhaps it's not the best software of CS6 Master for doing this, but:
I have a few (13) circles, they are connected with lines (one line from the centre of a circle to the centre of the next one, so 13 connecting lines). I need to move the circles around in order to create the appearance that suits me best, but I want the connecting ending to move together (see picture below). I need to do this often and get an immediate visual feedback. How do I do it? Am I using the wrong software altogether?
I have been practicing using a older book(copyright 1990) and it has some decent exercises in it. I was able to do this one but it seems I can"t find the proper way to do this..First drawing a line a certain distance..ortho on,click the first point anywhere, move curser to the left and click again. that gives me a line at 180 degrees at what ever length..Line command again starting at the second point of the first line..after clicking that point,I type in @2.38<150 that gives me a line2.38 long at 150 degrees..now how do i make a third line relative to the second line so that the angle is 75 degrees and a certain length..the picture shows what I am trying to draw..using the polar cordinates you get an angle based off the UCS( which is set at world) when you try to draw the third line ..that makes the angle between line 2 an 3 not the angle that I want..To make the drawing,I rotated the ucs -30 degrees..But there has to be a better way than that..
View 9 Replies View RelatedI draw a curved line and would like it to remain as a curved line even after saving the file. However everytime after saving, and opening the file again, the curve breaks into many line segments, which is not what I want! I want the curved line that I draw to remain as a curved line even after saving and opening. How do I do that? I am using autocad2010.
I use the ARC command to draw a couple of lines, they look okay here. But after I saved it, and re-open it again, what previously appeared as curved lines changed in their appearance to polyline segments.
I'm using the extrude tool so that the rectangle that I'm extruding (downwards) will taper (and become thinner at the bottom). However, when I do this, even as a fraction (.01) it seems to get bigger at the bottom. How do I make it thinner at the bottom, not bigger?

When I make a new line when I type, it makes a new line but it floating below the first line. I have to press enter 3 times to get the actual new line. I didn't have this 2 days ago.

When using artistic media brushstrokes, the thinnest I seem to be able to apply is supposedly .03", which is too thick for a lot of what I'm trying to do.To illustrate, in the attached image: The apple on the left is what I get if I apply artistic media strokes to the lines at the lowest possible thickness, which is still too thick. The apple on the right has the lines at the thickness that I wanted, but I was only able to get them that way by using a tedious workaround.
When I click on the makeup tools in version X6 – 64-bit it brings up 5 separate tools. I can find no options for the suntan or thinner tool although its states clearly in the user manual and other functions that there should be size and strength options. I have checked this forum and there are some posts that say there is no strength option for the suntan tool, however this is not what the user manual states. Is the user manual and the help function incorrect and if not, how do I bring up these options?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am using live paint to paint cartoon character illustrations. The artwork is brought into Illustrator CS3 and live traced. Then I convert it to a live paint group and use the paint bucket to fill. Everything looks fine no matter how much I zoom in. If I bring the AI file into Photoshop CS6 I can see a thin white line between the black line art and the fill. This is most noticeable where black meets black. I can also see this sometimes in file previews while browsing through files. If the white line cannot be seen in Illustrator is the file ok? I did just upgrade to CS6 if that would make a difference.

Ever since that when i click shift, it just allows me to draw vertical lines, rather than vertical or horizontal.
when I (try to ) use Pencil and Brush tools, (cross-hatching), some lines get erased/replaced by the lines drawn close to them. It must have something to do with the preferences, but I am not sure what to change/adjust.
