I have a drawing with polylines that have a global width of .2 which are plotting thinner than those with a width of 0. If I uncheck "plot object lineweights" it seems to plot correctly but the lines with 0 width plot so light (or grey) that you can't see the drawing well.

I have made changes to one dwg and i now have to apply it to a bazillion more DWG's. But the chnages apply only to a few layers. So i was wondering if i can set the global width to these polylines by layer somehow to save me from doing it "manually"
As the above mentioned, I have a drawing drawn using polylines with width from someone. The width of the line are suppose to represent area,
To put things into prospective, here is an example:
The polyline is 10 unit long and with a width of 2 unit wide. If i explode that polyline, it will become a single polyline without width. The line are suppose to represent 10 unit long and 2 unit wide; representing an area.
My question is is there a way to change the line above directly from polyline with width to a close polyline (4 x polylines) of 10 unit long and 2 unit wide.
I am having an issue trying to create a template using my correct line widths. Some of my plots are fine while others are too light. I know it is related to my plt file settings, but I can't seem to assess how to locate them in the plt file and then determine which is which (ie: the good ones vs. the incorrect ones)
View 1 Replies View RelatedI copied some lines with global widths into another drawing and the line is displayed and printed with an outline around the global width of the line in the new drawing.. almost like it is a (3D offset for the global width, and not solid fill)
I have checked my fillmode. "fillmode = 1" and I also checked my UCS "UCS is set to current"
Why is this happening and if it has to do with some inherent properties of that new dwg?
I have a leader that I want to make the line part of thicker (already made the leader arrow head bigger). I saw that it appeared to be based on dimension style, and I tried changing the lien thickness in there although as we use color dependent plot files, not line weight dependent plot styles, this had no effect.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIt used to be that when you selected a ployline onscreen you could set properties for the line in the properties dialog. With this version of ACAD, if the polyline is not of uniform width on all sections then the global width option is missing from the options dialog.
I know that you can now right click and go polyline/width but i suppose i have been doing this a certain way for so long and now i cant and its annoying.
I have a bolt program that draws the thickness of a bolts in elevation as a polyline with a global width, what i need is a lisp to then change this lwpolyline to a hatch, ie if global width is 20 and the polyline is 30 long i need to change this to a 20x30 solid hatch, is it possible to get the the global width and length and convert this to a boundary hatch? I need the same thing done for bolts in plan too as the circle is a lwpolyline also.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have used color to determine line widths. The plotter set-up recognizes color and assigns the appropriate line width. My new company is determining line width by using polylines. Am I behind the times? Or, is this a better way. Willing to change.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been sent a series of CAD drawings in which the author has used global width to define the appearance of features. I need to import this into our GIS, which for reasons too complex to bother with won't import any attributes such as width. I don't want to lose the information recorded so was wondering if it's possible to create a closed polygon to represent the shape of the line. I guess something might be possible using buffering, but I can't figure out how to use the existing line width.

It doesnt matter what layer its on, even though previously they were drawn 'properly' i.e the thin line width that shows when you have show/hide lineweight on 'hide'. This doesnt happen on any other drawing tool (arc, circle, polygon etc). The lineweights in layer control are all 'default'. I can't explain this as it seems to have just happened. Is it a known bug or something?

Currently the two lines will join to create a connected polyline but the original widths are maintained (6 and 0).
I am looking for the system variable where the non-polyline becomes joined and the global width for the new segment matches the first polyline.
I need to be able to grab all polylines and change global width at once. This is a repetitve task that i have created a button for. I am trying to use this but it is not working. It gets hung up on me wanting to manually select the polylines when i thought i grabbed them with the first line.

I'm trying to plot a large poster (108" long) onto a 36" wide roll of paper. The image, texts, and leader plotted fine; the polylines and mtext did not. Everything shows up in the preview, but the two mentioned items don't actually get plotted onto the paper.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with plotting 3D drawings. I have certain perameters I have to follow!
1. I have to use our company standard CTB files because our plots include 2D drawings that use color to define line thickness.
2. I have to use viewports, we use "carrier" sheets (paper space) to hold xrefs of all details, plans, etc...
3. I have to use Arial font and filled arrows.
The proceedure I use - I create 3D solids, then rotate them to the view I prefere (typically an isometric view), then I put text with arrows etc.. in. Once the Isometric (3D) is done I xref it into the model space of my "carrier" sheet. I then create a viewport and set it to plot "Legacy Hidden" as this allows me to plot the drawing to the correct line weights and so on using our CTB files.
The problem is that when I use the "Legacy Hidden" setting, all of the text, arrows, polylines and hatch are not filled. I have tried all of the other settings for plotting and they just do not do what I need - Hidden plots as a color image and on the black and white plotter is gray and not black, others give unsatisfactory results as well!
I have found a workaround but that won't cut it with our CAD committee, I am tring to get them to "allow" us to use 3D as a proper way to do isometrics and perspectives. This is my drawback!
One work around uses 2 viewports (one a copy of the other with the plot settings changed and the layers turned off/on then place one directly over the other to properly plot), the second is more reasonable but I have not tried it yet, it would involve creating a 3D drawing, then xrefing it into another drawing file that would contain the viewport and all of the text, polylines and so on).

Despite numerous different efforts, I can't get my polylines to plot at the same weight as my standard lines.
I'm not sure whether my issue is specific to lineweight, thickness or global width..
I've tried the latter two via qselect for all polylines within my selection; this didn't work.
I've put all selected lines (std and poly) into one layer with a layer default lweight. This didn't work either.
My workaround was to xplode all polylines within the selection and then they all plotted as required.
I am producing concept earthwork designs using road layouts and plot pads. For speed I use 2D polylines set at an elevation as breaklines for the plot pads and with the generated corridor surface produce the FG surface to generate final contours and earthwork volumes. I find this method quick enough that a variety of options can be explored quickly. Q: Is it possible to dynamically link the road profiles as per the intersection wizard, but without creating an intersection? Q: is it possible to link the elevation of the 2D polylines used for plot pads to a point on a road corridor such that if the corridor changes then so doed the elvation of the plot pad.?
View 9 Replies View RelatedWe have noticed when using Arial.TTF (Client Required) that when plotting hard copies out, we have discovered that the width of the text line is different than it shows in Autocad. We have done several troubleshooting tests, and are convinced it has something to do with it being a TTF font and different drivers or devices scale the fonts differently. I have scoured the net, but cannot find discussion on this issue.
We have tried:
Plot Style Tables - No effect
Various plotters - Same issue, but different degrees of width change
re-creating drawings - no effect
AutoCAD version - no effect
I have attached a sample file that we have used to test this issue - incase it might have an issue in the file it's self.
To see the biggest difference plot to fit a D+ size using Extents vs Window around the Text only.
I have a survey symbol for a tree that is created using two polyline arcs with width to make a solid circle. It is scalable in the desc key by tree size.
Sometimes when I plot a drawing the tree symbols plot (both paper and pdf) as "spokes on a tire", like a line with a polar array. (Even though the style is created with 2 polyline arcs with width)
If I explode the point object (not anywhere near ideal) then it plots as a solid circle as it should.
I don't maintain the template, I just use it, so modifying the point style isn't really an option.
I have not been able to nail down when it occurs and when it doesn't.

Is there a way of converting 3d polylines to polylines with an elevation?
I have a dwg of contour information, the contours are 3d polylines, because they are contours the z value is constant all along the line, so there no question what the elevation of the polyline would need to be.
I need to do this as I then need to import the dwg into a GIS programme called MapInfo whch doesn't read 3d polylines.
I have access to AutoCAD 2004 or 2005LT.
I'm using the extrude tool so that the rectangle that I'm extruding (downwards) will taper (and become thinner at the bottom). However, when I do this, even as a fraction (.01) it seems to get bigger at the bottom. How do I make it thinner at the bottom, not bigger?

I'm working on a windfarm access road with tight bends that need to be 2.5m wider than the straights. I have created offset alignents and the corridor with no problem but how can I label the widths to show the variation in width at the various locations. The road is at the full width (7.5m) between tangent points and then tapers to the standard width of 5m

If you can set the column widths to remember their positions in EATTEDIT? Take the below as an example, the prompts are truncated and the custom column sizes are never remembered when I adjust them.

Print > Batch Plot.
The problem is that I have to set plot configurations ( plot style table, plot area, paper size, etc) in each file before use Batch Plot.
Now I received 722 files with a wrong Plot Style Table. For this time I change the associated *.ctb file at Plot Style folder, but I will need to associate the right *.ctb to each drawing. It's also common to have to change other properties.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble with the spacing of my text when I import a .rtf file. The spaces change width based on the width of the columns. The problem does not effect all the paragraphs only select ones. If I change the width of the column the spacing of the text will fix itself. All of the text is the same text style. I have attached a copy for reference.
