ESTK for AI CS6 is already known to create problems (e.g. URL....).It’s possible that, in dialogs created with ScriptUI, AI CS6 also fails to display images with transparency properly. On my (Mac) system at least, such images appear with an aliased edge.
If this is true it’s doubly unfortunate, since with CS6 Adobe chose to make AI’s background interface colour adjustable—which makes interface images with transparency something of a requirement.
One workaround, which sadly negates the whole business of variable interface background colour, is to create dialog images with a background colour instead of transparency, and then force the dialog to display with the same background colour. For this technique we’re indebted again to Peter Kahrel’s invaluable ScriptUI for Dummies (URL...). Page 69 of that publication shows how to do this—for example:
The process is, to say the least, quirky: and, as Peter mentions, poorly documented by Adobe. But I hope it may be useful to others trying to use ScriptUI. The more I see of AI CS6 the more I like CS4! I develop scripts for CS6 using ESTK for CS4?
on my Windows 7 home computer I am able to create UI progress bars and popup messages for my UI window and everything works just fine. Now, I come to work on the Macintosh and they don't work so well. In this question, I would like to learn if there is a technique to bring a palette to the front when one is created, such as for this progress bar example, on a Mac. The palette appears deactivated and in back for me. It is unseen most of the time because it appears in the center of the screen behind the window by default, and when I move my window we can see the palette but there is no progress bar going on.
As you can see in the screenshot, my main window is deactivated because I attempted to get the progress bar active by deactivating the main window, obviously not successful. I also set the palette to active, which did not work.And, as I have implied, on my home computer on Windows things appear just as expected with the progress bar working and palettes appearing in front and active.
I've been trying to pull together the right info to use JavaScript to create a form to bring in particular symbols from the symbol library based on the variables taken from the form. I've taken bits and pieces from various sample scripts and tried to make this work, but my problem appears when I try to use conditionals.This is a limited version of what I want to do, but it is enough to get the point across.
1. I want to select a script that has various dropdown boxes. I would like the first dropdown to give me 3 options: 10, 13, 18 2. I would also like another drop down box that gives me three more options: single needle, double needle, and knife edge. 3. I would then like it to have an "ok" button and "Cancel" button. 4. From here when I click the ok button, a symbol is brought in from the library depending on what parameters were given to the form.
ex. If I selected 10 in the first drop down and double needle in the second, I would like "SYMBOL A" to be pulled from the library and centered on the artboard.ex. If I selected 13 in the first drop down and double needle in the second, I would like "SYMBOL B" to be pulled from the library and centered on the artboard.
I've gotten the UI to pop up and it works as planned as well as bringing in a symbol, my problem comes when I try to incorporate conditionals and functions.Here is my script.
I'm trying to set the stroke style for a path item I've drawn through JavaScript, however I can't find a way to set the stroke alignment for my path item.
I've checked the Illustrator JavaScript reference but I can't seem to find that option in there.I would expect something like:
pathItem.strokeAlignment = StrokeAlignment.OUTSIDE; // This doesn't work, what is the correct way to set the stroke alignment from JavaScript?
If I change the option in the Actions Panel it comes up as 'Set Stroke/Alignment: Outside', so there must be an equivalent way of setting it from JavaScript. Is there a way of converting Actions to JavaScript so you can see which properties and attributes are being set on the object? What is the correct way to set the strok alignment from JavaScript?
I need to do a form of automation, but wanting to execute this from another process (self-made application). Adobe Photoshop has this mechanism called "Droplets" that are executable based upon Actions defined in Photoshop (as far as I can understand). Is it possible to let AI do some work for you from an external application as with Photoshop (assuming you are able to execute the executable once it has been created)?
I am getting an error with a script i have used before without any problems.The script updates the only image at the bottom of a single page PDF and saves the changed PDF in another folder.
It asks me to locate the folder of PDFs to be modified.It asks me to locate the folder where the modified PDFs will be saved.It asks me to select the new image that will be used.It will then update the image and resizes it and save the PDF in the specified folder.
I don't get this error on all PDFs but i get it at least once every 10 PDFs (and there are over a 1,000 PDFs).The error i get is this:
Error 1302:No such elementLine:27-> rip=doc.rasterItems[0].position;
I get this error regardless of whether the script is run in CS3 or CS5.
Additional info.I ran this script in CS3 and it worked. At a later date i ran another script on the folder of modified PDFs in CS5 that deleted any unnessesary elements outside the artboard, it selected All on the Artboard - then inversed the selection - and deleted any selected items followed by save and close.I have tried making sure the "new" image has the same name as the image being replaced but this made no difference.I am using Illustrator on Vista.
I am trying to create a script who could act as an Autocad plot (ie convert each color to black, with a different line weight).
Here is the first script I melted, who create my Black swatch
if ( app.documents.length > 0 ) { var myDoc = app.activeDocument; //add Black swatch var newSwatch = app.activeDocument.swatches.add() var newColor = new GrayColor(); newColor.gray = 100; [Code] .........
And here is the second one, who replace one color by Black (it don't change the text, nor the lineweight yet…
if ( app.documents.length > 0 ) { //test de dialogue function csDialog() { var fabGroup = app.activeDocument.swatchGroups.getByName('Fabrics'); var allFabs = fabGroup.getAllSwatches(); var fabNames = Array();
I have about 500 files that I need to change one line of text in. Example. File name is XXX 001, the line of text is the file name so it would read XXX 001. XXX 002... etc. up to XXX 500. Is there a way that I could automate it opening, changing this line of text, saving and closing?
I found this script that makes the selected objects the same width AND height. I am very new to creating scripts. is it possible to modify this to make an object the same width leaving their heights the same?
mySelection = activeDocument.selection; if (mySelection.length>0){ if (mySelection instanceof Array) { goal=mySelection[mySelection.length-1]; for (i=0; i<(mySelection.length-1); i++){
Is there a way or a script that will make all the text on a page Dynamic? At the moment we have to select each text box and press 'make text dynamic', which can get tiresome with a lot of text boxes. If we select all the text boxes and do the same we get a lot of variables with the same name which gives an error.
So we need a script that can make it all dynamic with different named variables.
I would like to create a trapezoid shape and be able to color it in, just like I'm able to do with the PathItems (e.g. rectangle, ellipse). I would like to be able to do this in Javascript.
I was thinking it might have to do with PathPoints, but Adobe's Scripting Reference Guide does not make it clear.
All the graphics in my document is selected. I want to deselect groups and leave standalone items selected. How can i make JavaScript recognize a group?
I have a grid of objects—say, tiny squares. I'd like to make arbitrarily-shaped selections of those objects—for instance, select a star-shaped group of the squares. Or a circle-shaped group of the squares. Or use text paths to select letter-shaped groups of the squares.
I could imagine a utility that lets me choose an arbitrary shape/path, and then turn that into a selection of objects on the canvas. Is this possible?
Right now I'm stuck using the lasso tool to hand-draw shape selections but it's not accurate enough for what I need to do.
I've devised this script that "kind of" works.This script takes your selection, copies appearance attributes, and pastes them to the top object after clipping.It's currently limited in a few ways:
• It does not accept compound paths as clipping object (and I don't know how to test for it, nor how to iterate down said compound clipping object to set each path object to clipping separately) • It only works with a single stroke or fill • It does not understand "no fill" it will fill your object with white instead *FIXED* • I'm hoping to use the "graphicStyle" property to copy the appearance, since that sounds way cleaner. But I don't understand how to.
Even with these limitations, I bound this to CMD+7 using fastscripts - I'm *already* used to it working this way!
#target Illustrator // script.name = Clip Retaining Color.jsx; // script.required = at least two paths selected, top most path is the clipping mask; // script.parent = Herman van Boeijen, www.nimbling.com // 30/11/13; // *** LIMITED TO A SINGLE STROKE AND/OR FILL OF THE CLIPPING OBJECT*** // Here's hoping to use the "graphicStyles" property to copy over the appearance. [code]....
verify if this is the intended forward/backward compatibility between C3D 2014 & 2013.
My project was previously using Data Shortcuts in C3D 2013. I opened the reference (not the source) drawing that uses a bunch of Alignments. During the initial drawing upgrade from 2013 into 2014 I get a message for each Alignment that, "{Alignment Name} was modified in a previous version of the software. Changes in the current were overwritten when the data reference was synchronized.". At this point everything seems fine.
The issue I'm having is that when I re-open that upgraded drawing using 2013 all of those same Alignments become promoted. They are no longer referenced!
is there a way to limit the length of a line segment stay a default length instead of it getting longer as you drag your mouse ? For example in a program called ChemBioDraw you can limit the default length for drawing molecules
How can you make the artboards line up to the grid? each of my boards is not quite set the same on the grid so trying to place items in the same position from one board to the next is hard.
I'm try to automate the importing of the Varaible and datasets into my graphs via Scripting, but the ImportVaraibles() function doesn't seem to work. Here is my Script, mostly copied from the example script provided with Illustrator (CS5). And, this works manually, using the file names in the script, via Load Variable Library
Set appRef = CreateObject(strIllistratorVersion)
'Open the file and import the datasets Set docRef = appRef.Open(strTemplate & "200-500.ai") 'docRef.Datasets.RemoveAll docRef.Variables("Yearbook").Delete
Here is the problem, after I delete the previous library, then this next line, right from the example, does nothing The script then exits with 'No Datasets in this document'
docRef.ImportVariables (strXMLFolder & "Lumber_200-500.xml") 'appRef.DoJavaScript "alert('Template:" & strTemplate & strRange & ".ai | XML file:" & strXMLFolder & "" & objFile.Name & "^')" If (appRef.Documents.Count > 0) Then Set docRef = appRef.Documents(1)
[Code]....
If I remove that delete line, the script runs, but just uses whatever Variables I had last loaded, not the XML file.
It's simply not loading. What do I need to do to get it to load?
I've got CS6 and Windows 7. Trying to make a line with an arrow on one end curve around a circle. Actually want it to have a 3D look like it was curving around the back side of a globe. How do you do this?
Is there a way to make a trend line with the chart tools in AI? Specifically, a polynomial trendline. I am so disappointed with the apparent limitations of the chart tools available.
