For example, a layer has a drop shadow and a path, round corners. I want to move the drop shadow from the layer to the path so that the path now has the round corners and the drop shadow. To do this I have to open the shadow effect of the layer wright down its parameters, then create a shadow effect for the path with the same parameters which is a lot of work.

Mar 8, 2013I am trying to make a shape made from the blob tool made into hafltones. I do not want it as a gradient, just equal sized halftones throughout the shape. Is this possible?
When I do it using Effects/pixilate/color haltone it makes multiple colored halftones, whereas I just want one color. And when I change the channel's it comes up with similar results.

Feb 2, 2011i have 2 square shapes on my artborad. each square shape has its own gradient fill. i would like to merge these 2 shapes to form a single shape. not a groupe of shapes, but a single, flattened (compounded?) object.
the gradient of the first square includes a zero-alpha. the second image is the two shapes simply layered, but i want to basically flatten them together to form one shape.
what steps are involved in merging these shapes to form one shape so that their gradients are unaffected by merging with the other?

Jan 20, 2013I'm having problems getting what I want on Illustrator CS6. This is the shape that I'm working on: [URL]
I got two paths, one for the inner outline, one for the outer. I want this to be one object, looking just like that, where red is the fill, and black is the outline. Simple as that. [URL] - this is what i want.
So, the inner "circle" is not filled with anything, beacause my object is this "frame" outside. But since I have two seperate paths, I'm filling the outer path with colour, and I get:
[URL] the outer filling is red, the outside is transparent, which is good, but the inside is red because the inner path has no filling.
Right, so next I fill the inner path with white and it looks almost good: [URL]
But the inside is not transparent, it's an "illusion" and everything will be great on a white background, but that's not the case.
I want to convert these to paths into one object to behave exactly like I showed in the first image. Red is the fill, black is the outline. And I plan to use gradient mesh heavily on that shape, so that has to work to.
Bad quality, just doing some quick previews on Photoshop.
Illustrator :: Creating Distressed Look On Object - Expand Gradient Mesh
Mar 19, 2014I'm trying to create a distressed look on an object that has a gradient mesh appliet to it. i've done this with regular objects but never on one with a gradient mesh. one of the steps in this process is to expand the object, but i'm not able to do so because the expand option is grayed out in the drop down menu.
normally after expanding the object i would use one of the artistic charcoal brushes to create a texture over the object in a different color. then i would select the brush strokes and expand apperance. then, using the pathfinder, i would merge the expanded brush strokes with the expanded object and then delete the brush stokes. what remains is the object with little cut-outs where the texture of the brush strokes used to be.
however i can't do this because i can't expand the object with a gradient mesh.

May 2, 2013I'm working in Illustrator CS5 and I want to know if it is possible to copy and paste an effect like a drop shadow. For example, let's say I create a document with some text which has a drop shadow on it and some without the effect. Next I create text in a different font with a different drop shadow effect (different settings for the drop shadow attributes). Later in the project I decide, I want to go back and add the first effect to several objects and/or text in my image. Is there a way to copy that effect and paste it in?
I know that I can go in and manually copy the settings of the effect I want to copy, add the effect to a new object, and then re-apply the effect from that point, but is there a way to simplify the process by just copying the effect?

I can not export the logo, ( Ai, eps or pdf) in InDesign and keep the transparency of the gradient. Transparency becomes white. For the pdf, not only I do not have the transparency of the gradient, but I also have a block of white around my logo.

Illustrator :: Applying Live Rotate / Multiple Copy Effect On A Group Of Paths?
Oct 16, 2012I'm intermediate (at best) with Illustrator. I'm using CS6 on a 2009 iMac. How to make Illustrator ignore stroke weight/cap/join settings when I'm applying a live rotate/multiple copy effect on a group of paths? Currently, Illustrator sets the rotation point to the outermost part of my stroke (figuring in the strokes atrributes), but I only want it to calculate the from the path's structure: the coordinates of my designated anchor point.
Here's the top/right group of paths with a rotate/ 3 copies effect of 90 degrees. Looks problem-free at this view.
Here's that top/right group of paths with the addition of a reflect/ 1 copy effect of X-axis. Still no apparent problems.
But here's a close up of the misalignment of corner points. As shown, the Transform effect is based off the strokes attributes (the tip of its corner), not the actual location of the corner point.
It does not apply different cap/corner styles or stroke alignments; that only slightly nudges the pivot point to the center.
Plus, this one point stroke is somewhat arbitrary. I only set it so in order to see my dynamic effects.
Tweaking the vertical/horizontal moves effects of the rotated/copied elements won't support because this art will later undergo lots of alteration, mostly changes in stroke weight (maybe even variable stroke width).
I need the skeleton of my structure to snap together precisely.
Any solution, no matter how roundabout, would save this project!

Jul 23, 2013The goal is to copy a text object from one illustrator(CS6) document to another maintaining live type and having a graphic style applied from the appearance panel. When an effect like an arch is applied it is converting the text to outlines during the copy and paste, however a straight fill will not. The type of font (TrueType, OpenType, Postscript) does not seem to affect the problem.
Alternatively I have been able to take the desired appearance, create a graphic style from it, apply that to a path and transfer the graphic style to the new document via copy/paste, then apply it to live type on the new document. Obviously this is not ideal.
Illustrator :: How To Copy Bitmap Object Instead Of SVG Code
Sep 9, 2013I used to copy vectors from illustrator to softwares like Axure, with cmd+c and cmd+v. It worked pretty well until CC.
Illustrator CC only copies vectors as SVG objects. So when you're in Axure, it copies the SVG code and not the bitmap object !! I understand the need for such a thing in HTML (even if I doubt that it will be often used), but I didn't find any turnaround to be able to copy this vector inside Axure, which is, in my opinion, the biggest use of the copy feature from illustrator to any other software (like Word for example, which also copies the SVG code and not the bitmap object)....
Is there a way to copy the bitmap object instead of the SVG code ?

Jan 14, 2014I want to copy objects from illustrator to use in photoshop, but the eps file that i am working in has a clipping mask and when i attempt to copy objects in that file from illustrator 6 to photoshop 6, portions (in some cases) all of the object turns black or gray. I'm sure this is a simple noob error (hope my question is clear enough), and it's driving me nuts. Nov 27, 2012Is there a way to create an object/group in Illustrator and then copy it across one document in multiple places (multiple art boards, etc.) - allowing the designer to then update the original and seeing the changes cascade to all copies?
I know this can be done using InDesign by linking an Illustrator file and making subsequent updates to that Illustrator file. But I do not want to use InDesign, I want to use Illustrator. What I want is much like creating Symbols in Flash, updating one will cascade throughout the file.
