This page is useful for dealing with vector shape layers, but the techniques he talks about don't work for smart objects. Strangely, he says he doesn't have a problem with smart objects, but I do.

Here is an example of what I'm talking about: a simple 13x13 pixel image in Illustrator turns to crap in Photoshop when pasted as a smart object (I know an image as simple as this could be pasted as a shape layer, but the real images I'm working with are much more complex, and cannot be pasted as simple shape layers).

Due to customers request I was forced to do some color corrections so I decided to use my PhotoShop CS6.I imported vector files into my photoshop as smart objects, added some adjustments layer, few vector masks and I changed their layer style to get the finest result.

When I finished my work in PS I tried to save this as .pdf In my .psd there are shape layers, some groups and some adjustments layers with layer masks and changed Layer style to "color", one text layer and 3 smart objects imported from illustrator.I want to keep my image scaleable for bigger resolutions.

So I was trying to save this file as Adobe PDF but I found that whole graphic in exported .pdf was converted to raster, besides the border, cut marks and that one text layer.I think that this is because of smart objects. (saving as .pdf without them works pretty good)

Is somehow possible to save this document from photoshop as vector.pdf? or is possible to import group of shapes from illustrator to photoshop as shapes in photoshop? no as smart objects.

I am running out of time so I saved it as high res .Jpeg, but I want to know if this is somehow possible for future use or If I have to rather avoid that solution. Will be included .pdf file as raster? or it will stay scaleable even with smart objects in it?

Oct 23, 2012I am trying to make a text layer in photoshop and convert to a smart vector object, but it only gives me an option to convert to smart object, as opposed to vector smart object. The bad point about this is that the text becomes rasterised when exported to EPS or PDF (same with vector shapes within a smart object), unlike a regular vector layers which output correctly.

Is there anything i'm missing out on, or do I have to revert to importing all text from illustrator and set up my smart vectors like that?
Photoshop :: Vector Smart Object From AI Is Blurred
Aug 3, 2009I am storing design elements as Vector Objects in Illustrator so that I can update them quickly when needed. The issue is that they vector objects, when viewed inside of photoshp, are quite a bit more blurry than the photoshop equivalent. Any ideas why? I understand that the Smart Object is rasterized. Do I need to do something to my photoshop document to view it in its final rendered state? Photoshop elements are rasterized as well, so i am not sure what is going on. In the attached pic, the top element is from illustrator, while the bottom is the same thing made inside photoshop.

I created a shape in Illustrator CC, added an Extrude and Bevel effect to it, and then pasted it as a smart object in Photoshop CC. The first example what it looks like in Illustrator CC, the second is what it pastes as in Photoshop CC. As you can see, it is rendering it very poorly and totally unusable as a Smart Object.

I've recently updated to CC, and this never happened in CS5. Is there a new preference in CC that works to render vector objects? maybe something I turned off by accident?

When I go to transform layer, Photoshop is putting a large bounding box around the object — even though the object's bounds are much smaller.

No other layers are selected or linked to the Vector smart object.
Photoshop :: Can't Warp Pasted AI Vector Smart Object Using Free Transform In CS6
Sep 5, 2012I pasted a vector object into PS CS6 (13.0.1 x32) today directly from Illustrator CS6 (16.0.1 x32), and selected "Paste as Smart Object" (Windows XP Pro SP3).

I then tried to warp the pasted object using the Free Transform tool by dragging one of the corner handles with CTRL held down (Windows).

This usually warpsdistorts the object, but instead, this launched a skew operation.

If I paste as Shape Layer or as Pixels then apply Free Transform, <Ctrl + corner handle drag> performs a warpdistort operation. Also, if I rasterise the pasted AI object, and then convert to a Smart Object I can warpdistort.

Is it not possible to paste an Illustrator vector in as a Smart Object, and then warpdistort it directly using this technique?

Dec 1, 2012I'm running Photoshop CS6 (13.0.1) 64bit on a MacBook Pro running OS X Lion. About 60% of the time when I try to double click a vector smart object instead of opening it up in Illustrator I get an error that says, "Could not edit original smart object because of program error." This most recent time it was a smart object from vector data I copied and pasted from Illustrator into Photoshop.

Illustrator :: Pasting A Smart Object In Photoshop
Mar 15, 2014I create artworks using both Illustrator and Photoshop by pasting different elements as smart objects in Photoshop on different layers but I often have a problem.
To make the pasted content positioned exactly on the same place as in Illustrator, I create a box with no fill and stroke encompassing the whole artwork (with the thick pink frame on the image below) and paste different elements along with the encompassing box on different layers in Photoshop.
The problem is that often during the creation of the artwork it may require using a clipping path containing objects bigger than the encompassing box. Then when pasting in Photoshop the size of the bounding box containing the invisible parts of the objects is factored in instead of the visible parts only.
The image bolow is a simplified example. On the left side is the selection in Illustrator but when pasted in Photoshop although it keeps the same visibility as on the left size, the encompassing frame is the bounding box shown on the right side and this messes up the position of the placed objects. I know the problem can be avoided if I know in advance how big the eventual artwork including the invisible objects would be and create an encompassing box big enough but often this is not the case. What do yo think would be the easiest way to fix this problem once it occurs?

I would say that in a moment I change colour Ai understands that I colour in borders and all lines overlaps each other... However, I do not colour borders...
Image is very complex pattern and I believe it is somehow related with image production... The image does not appear as it looks like - everything is over layered with cut-outs of object above... But it is beyond my knowledge...

Jan 6, 2013I have a complex vector object, containing of forms of all kinds and what not. They have two colours: black and red. To use this logo in a background area, I need to make it all grey. Everything which is black or red shall then be light grey or so. But the appearance panel can't do a single thing. It just says "this is a group, I can't handle that". So I ungrouped the entire object, then there were other sub-groups. I could go on ungrouping everything forever, but that can't be the solution. When I just click on a colour in that colour panel instead, it sets the outline colour of every single element. It hasn't always done that, there were times when it would set the fill colour of all elements. But there's no switch to tell it what exactly to set. Should I way until an even or odd day so that it would set the fill colour again?

May 12, 2009I'm running photoshop cs3. I created two different smart objects. Within each of those smart objects, I want to include another smart object. However, when I update the embedded smart object, only the partent SO is updated, the other SO seems to have a different child. here is the setup visually: canvas -> SO1 -> SO3canvas -> SO2 -> SO3 so when I update SO3 from within SO1, only SO1 is updated - SO2 stays the same.
