Illustrator :: Pasting A Smart Object In Photoshop
Mar 15, 2014
I create artworks using both Illustrator and Photoshop by pasting different elements as smart objects in Photoshop on different layers but I often have a problem.
To make the pasted content positioned exactly on the same place as in Illustrator, I create a box with no fill and stroke encompassing the whole artwork (with the thick pink frame on the image below) and paste different elements along with the encompassing box on different layers in Photoshop.
The problem is that often during the creation of the artwork it may require using a clipping path containing objects bigger than the encompassing box. Then when pasting in Photoshop the size of the bounding box containing the invisible parts of the objects is factored in instead of the visible parts only.
The image bolow is a simplified example. On the left side is the selection in Illustrator but when pasted in Photoshop although it keeps the same visibility as on the left size, the encompassing frame is the bounding box shown on the right side and this messes up the position of the placed objects. I know the problem can be avoided if I know in advance how big the eventual artwork including the invisible objects would be and create an encompassing box big enough but often this is not the case. What do yo think would be the easiest way to fix this problem once it occurs?
Since upgrading from CS5 I'm having a huge problem using Smart Objects. Â What: Smart Objects pasted from InDesign into Photoshop are pixelated and corny beyond belief. Originating material placed in InDesign is hi-res (e.g. 600ppi) but when pasted in PS it looks crappy. Â How: Selecting an image in InDesign and pasting it in PS in a 72ppi file. Typically I need to copy elements from previous art in ID and re-compose and use for web. Â Why: Can't seem to fix it. Have tried with Anti-Aliasing both on and off to no avail. None of the Image Interpolation settings affect this either. Only solution is to scale the placed Smart Object to something like 400% where it suddenly looks nice again, rasterize and then scale it back down. Â Theory: Smart Object scaling is flawed in PS CS6. Â Note: All scaled images in InDesign already look gritty and awful. Even with Display Performance: High Quality set (using default settings). Seems to me like CS6 scaling is b a d. Â Image 1: Smart Object rasterized at same size as placed. (ouch. awful.) Â Image 2: Smart Object Scaled to 400%, rasterized and then scaled back to original size (yum yum, like it used to be without up-rasterize-down-scaling)
There is a logo that I am trying to bring into Photoshop as a smart object. I'm copying it in Illustrator and pasting in PS. However, when I do, some of the color is missing. Â I checked the mode and it's RGB Color and 8 bits per channel.
1. Is there a way for masking each smart filter separately on a single smart object other than nesting one smart object into the another? 2. Is there a way for removing the previously created smart object?
I mean ... let's say I have a smart object containing four layers. Can I remove smart object from these layers?
I'm trying to import an illustrator file which has a spot color into photoshop as a smart object. The spot color converts to four color when imported.Â
System: Win XP, CS4 Â Is it possible to copy a vector smart pbject from PS to AI? Note from PS to AI? HAve tried dragging and dropping... it doesn't seem to work.
Is there a trick to pasting a pixel-perfect vector image from Illustrator into Photoshop as a smart object, and not introduce a bunch of anti-aliasing that was not in the original file? My images are perfectly aligned with the pixel grid in Illustrator, and the pixel preview shows them correctly. Â This page is useful for dealing with vector shape layers, but the techniques he talks about don't work for smart objects. Strangely, he says he doesn't have a problem with smart objects, but I do. Â Here is an example of what I'm talking about: a simple 13x13 pixel image in Illustrator turns to crap in Photoshop when pasted as a smart object (I know an image as simple as this could be pasted as a shape layer, but the real images I'm working with are much more complex, and cannot be pasted as simple shape layers). Â I'm using Photoshop CS4.
I'm working on a project and I need to use the free distort tool + ctrl (command for mac users) but it won't work. I found out that I need to convert it to a smart object, from another disscussion, but right clicking the name of it in the layers menu isn't working. I'm using CS6 by the way.
I'm running photoshop cs3. I created two different smart objects. Within each of those smart objects, I want to include another smart object. However, when I update the embedded smart object, only the partent SO is updated, the other SO seems to have a different child. here is the setup visually: canvas -> SO1 -> SO3canvas -> SO2 -> SO3 so when I update SO3 from within SO1, only SO1 is updated - SO2 stays the same.
Ps CS6 OSX 10.6.8  Problem: Transform applied to Smart Object fails to transform an attached Smart Filters Mask.  I mean a Transform, including Free Transform, as found in the Edit menu. A simple move by the Move Tool is OK.  A workaround until this bug is squashed is to encapsulate the Smart Object + Smart Filters + Filter Mask inside another Smart Object and transform that. However, that will not be a satisfactory solution in some cases. If a filter has size parameter(s), e.g. Gaussian Blur radius, a scaling or warping/distorting transform applied after the filter will obviously differ from the filter applied after the transform.  In any case, the workaround is inconvenient to subsequent editing and experimenting with filters and masks.
I render 3d object from raster and smart object (extrusion) Each time i do the edge where the extrusion meets the front inflation material is slightly distorted. Should be a smooth line.
I have made an object using the artistic media tool and I would like to copy and paste it, however when I try and paste it into my page there is nothing there but the bounding box. How do I copy and paste this object so it can be seen?
i noticed importing an image file from adobe illustrator into photoshop through copy and paste. but i dont have illustrator on my pc. is there a way to turn a layer or an image into a smart object without using the bridge feature they have now in CS2?
in cs2, i use smart object lot to replace image i mean i have to make collection of gallery of let's say mp3 albums so i have to put albums covers in my designs but exactly as i wanted in size {no matter whatever size/resolution the source (album cover) are} so smart objects always be the easiest way cos i firstly draw rectangulers in my custum size, and i covert each rectangulers to smart objects and replace every smart objects to place those albums covers. it's easiest way and since cs3 is launched, when i try to replace image of smart objects my replaced image(album cover) wont be as equal as my custum rectanguler size. this is my prob. when i place the images either they are placed bigger size than the size of smart object or smaller than smart object . can is there any process to make as shame size as smart object while placing images to smart object??? in cs2 it's possible but cs3 cs4 can't do such smart object or i'm a missing any new technique to do that? ya we can resize each placed covers to our custom size but it takes hell long time . i need shortcut way. wel in cs2 i been doin things like this using smart object which takes only 2 min to put images in my custom sized rectangular
I am trying to open a RAW photo in Photoshop CS5 as a Smart Object. I have the photo selected in Bridge. When I go to execute File>Place in Bridge CS5 the menu entry indicates there should be a menu displayed. However, clicking on Place does not bring up a menu.  In Photoshop there is open a blank file to receive the photo. Why do I not receive a menu?
I'm having aliasing issue with my smart objects in CS6 I never had before. I've searched all over PS and these forums to try and figure out how to get rid of the jaggies, with no luck. Below is a screenshot example of a SO with the aliasing (I'm trying to reconstruct a dresser top).
I have a smart object, and, If I apply Control "J" Â Â Or Drag It to the New Layer Icon, It will Duplicate the Layer. And If I Go to Layer-Smart Objects- New Object Via Copy, It dose the same thing. What Is the Different between Control J, or Go to Layer- Smart Objects- New Smart Object Via Copy.
Often after making vectro pictures in illustrator i use exporting to Photoshop like a SO. But i can't realize, why after exporting some elements like a blur or transparent mask is losing?
I working on the Photoshop with Smart Object with link to Illustrator. How can i transform perspective for Smart Object in Photoshop? There are accessible to me only Scale Rotate and Skew, others is gray out.
I was playing around with some images that I changed into Smart Object, and I noticed when you shrink the Images to a very small size, and later Transform It back to a bigger size, the quality dose not change,,Even when I saved them and opened them later on. But It dose not work with saving the Smart Object into JPG.
Is there a way to get Smart Objects to work on a different disc besides your Startup on a Mac? I'd like to set up a stand-alone SSD to handle all Smart Object operations. Currently, I'm getting the "Start-up disc is almost full" warning a little too often. It even crashed PS one time. I know you can change the Scratch Disc very easily, but I don't see any way to change how Smart Objects are handled.
I have a 'base' file A, with two (different) smart objects B and C. Now I want B and C to both contain a third smart object D, and I can't get that to work.
I can place the same file as a smart object in B and C, but it becomes two different smart objects, which are seperately editable. I would like to be able to edit smart object D and the changes to be visible in both B and C and in turn in A. Â Is this at all possible? Btw working in photoshop CS5
I was told to double click the layers window and a new editable window would pop up...but only the FX window pops up. I've also tried the "edit Content" choice but that erases the smart object..
I need a smart object mask, I converted the layer to a smart object, using the mask panel to add a mask, I'm not getting a smart object mask instead a regular layer mask. I searched the adobe documentation.
I have two tabs open: the first one the "parent file" and the second one the "smart object" from a layer of the "parent file". I accidentally "unsmart" the object on the "parent file" and close both tabs... Â Question: Is there a way to recover a closed smart object in photoshop? In photoshop directory?
I'm currently working on a mock up for a product design, a box container to be precise,And I want one smart object layer to cover both the front and the side, so you can seamlessly design the front and side of the box.
Sadly I haven't found a good way to do this, thought i would be able to with warp but I can't get straight corners with it,
When i have a project that contain a lot of the same images i normally create one Smart Object and copy/paste it as many times as i need to. This way when i have to change something i can edit the Smart Object and it will automaticly change all duplicates.  For example i have created a button and i need one that has to be a different width, i can change thewidth of the Smart Object. Only this way it changes all the duplicates too. Let's say i don't want to change my previously made duplicates, i can make a copy of my Smart Object this way it does not effect my previously created buttons. This have the effect that when i need to make some changes, ill need to edit 2 buttons instead of one.
In some of my projects i have 10 different sizes of the same object only the design is left unchanged. When i need to change the color for example i have to edit this 10 imes. You would say 10 times isn't that much. That is correct. But if you made multiple changes to the Smart Object's layers, let's say i changed 4 things. I have to manually change 4 x 10 = 40 things. That could take up some time. Â In my case i need to have different widths of the same object everything else needs to be exactly the same. So in my perfect case i would have one smart object with different widths which i only have to change once's. Â Is there a way to accomplish this?
