I made a long line with a complex stroke profile. I decided to remove a section, but it distorts the new ends with the excess profile. How can I delete a mid point on a line and keep the profile visually intact?
View 5 RepliesHow can I draw a line from the endpoint of an existing line (snap to grid is on), without the lines being joined? Joining causes two problems for me:
1. The arrowhead at the end of the existing line moves to the end of the joined line, whereas I want the arrowhead in the middle of the combined line.
2. Even without entering isolation mode the new line gets joined to a line which belong to a group, thus becoming part of that group as well. This defies the use of grouping to create logically connected units.
In highway construction, I usually check for lowest ditch elevation and see how the existing drainage flows. Typically one would create or specify in CL profile creation with a 15m offset right and left which would then generate existing CL and 15m offset profiles in profile view. However, the 15m offset profile might not represent the lowest point in the ditch as the lowest elevation offset distance varies along the highway.
My question: Is there a way in civil 3D profile creation where it can automatically trace the lowest elevation in the ditch and plot it in profile view?
I would like to draw a Zig Zag Line, but I want that the line start in point "A" and finish in point "B".
The image below is similar to how I want the line, but I would like to have that "wavy" style. I use Illustrator CS6.
I have a shape in illustrator CS6 that I'm trying to edit. When I try to click on a point with the Delete Anchor Point Tool nothing happens however I am able to select the point using the Direct Selection Tool and then remove it using the "Remove selected anchor points" option in the Control palette. Same issue with trying to use the Convert Anchor Point Tool.

It used to be an automatic feature in CS5, where a + or - sign would show up whenever I hovered over a selected path with the tool.

Now I have to add a 4th profile to the mix and get it to show in my profile views that have already been cut. The data is shortcut into the drawing with my cut profiles views. How do I get it to be in the cut profile views without re cutting everything?

The trouble I am having, is that Illustrator defaults to start the larger dots in the bottom right hand corner, and I would like the “starting point” to be in the middle of the line if you know what I mean. I'm still happy for the dots to start big, then gradually decrease in size, but I want to control where the “beginning” is.

I have a curved path I imported into Illustrator, and I'd like to draw a line perpendicular to the curve at a particular point. I've searched google and this forum, but can't find any description of how to do it. Corel Draw has a button that lets you do this, so I'm hoping something similar exists in Illustrator...
i'm currently just calculating the angle at the point I want using the derivative, finding the angle, and then adding 90 degrees to it. But I need the line to be placed at a particular point, and the X/Y properties of the line are based on the ruler which isn't even in the center of the document (I want to position it relative to the artboard). As in, I just want to set the position of one endpoint of the line...
I am having a problem when exportng a file as a pdf. A jpg image that I am using distorts. This is a high res file and I have tried exporting with both the 'high quality print' and 'press quality' presets.
I have tried printing directly from illustrator and the image looks great, when I print from the pdf the image looks disorted.
I have attached an image to show what I mean, the image on the left is from the pdf.
Any way I can distort a path in Illustrator like in PS. You know I must accept the changes I made. In Photoshop, I allowed to move this 4 points before I press the check button. But in Illy only 1 point can move and it will automatically accepted it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedThe above image shows my problem. All have the same zig zag effect setting, but due to inconsistent anchor point spacing there is inconsistent waviness. Is there a way to make a wavy line that is not a distortion based on anchor point distances? I'd like all my wavy lines to look nice and consistent like this:
The only reason they're so consistent is the absolute setting has been used but these lines are all straight and have only 2 anchor points, start and finish, hence the wave is consistent. It's harder when the lines are curvy and have a different number and spacing of anchor points.
This is what happens when I resize from large to small (in this case 600px to 60px).

I'm making variations of a logo and one of them is a single color reverse. The logo is basically the letters 'MCS' written on a block of color. When I try to use the Pathfinder's subtract feature to knock out the letters from the block I get some slight distortion on the letters.
I was running CS2 before and I did this many times but I never had any distortion.
Is there a setting I can change?
For example, I'm making revisions to a plan and drag a block or xref of the floor plan changes where walls/doors/windows have moved. I want to be able to simply pick the underlying linework as opposed to tracing over each line of said xref/block.

The intersection wizard makes dynamic EOP profiles based off of the cross slope from the centerline. Well the intersection tool doesn't always work with funky intersection layouts. Is it possible to manually create a dynamic EOP profile based on the cross slope from the centerline profile?

I don't know if this is relevant information, but whenever I start a new blank page, the message "3d features require a minimum of 512MB of vRAM. Photoshop has detected less than that on your operating system." Though I have a computer with a 3gb graphics card.
how to stop this unexplained crashing, I really want to get photoshop, I just don't know if it's worth it if my work will keep getting lost with these crashes.
I'm trying to draw a plan of my house in Autocad 2009 but I seem to be endlessly using trim and extend because I can't easily select the points that I want with osnap. Eg. imagine I have a box, and I want to start drawing another box inside it that has each side as 10 units smaller than the corresponding side on the outer box.
Step 1 - I draw a small line from the top left corner of the big box using the endpoint snap, typing in "5" for the length.
Step 2 - I then do the same at right angles to the first line to get me to the starting point of the inner box. This always leaves me with 2 small lines to remember to delete.
Step 3 - Then in order to draw the top line of the inner box I end up drawing to a random length because I can't say "draw until 5 units away from the right hand side of the big box", then I end up trimming it later once I've repeated steps 1,2 and 3 for the next side of the inner box.
I know in my example above I could have scaled the box down or something but that's not what I'm getting at. I really want a way of selecting line start and end points that are a known position away from an existing point.
Is there any way to delete or rename door parameters that show up once a door is loaded into a project but do not exist in the actual door family? I have made two shared parameters called "Frame Material" and "Door Material", and my schedules and tags are working properly with them... but when I select a door's properties there are two "Frame Material"s (one I did not create and cannot delete) and an extra "Finish" that I do not need now that I have my shared parameter.

I have changed the line weight in the layer properties, in the Profile properties and tried changed the line weight in the pen style. Yes, i saw the command draw line at an angle but i find it a little bit complicated for a simple task like that. I am sure autodesk have a simplest solution about that.
If i am already at the draw line mode and i can easy catch the tracking perpendicular to previous segment but if i want to start from another line and go perpendicular i cannot make the tracking work.
