Illustrator :: Ungrouping Imported PDF Into Version 6
May 5, 2013
Is there a way to ungroup the elements of an imported pdf in Illustrator 6? Do you have to change the settings in Adobe Acrobat first to allow the elements to import individually rather than a group?
I'm using illustrator cs6 and I can't change the color of some individual objects when grouped using the direct select tool or isolation mode. Only when the objects are ungrouped can I make the change.
I think I did something unintentionally awhile back so that now every time I group or ungroup objects on a layer, the layer they are in collapses. For the life of me, I can't find anything on what keystroke I may have done (if it was a keystroke) that resulted in this happening.
I am a screen printer making a leap into the world of CorelDraw. Loving it so far, especially the trace options. That being said, I have a piece of artwork that a client wanted me to scan in and trace to see how it would turn out. The image can be found here:
[URL]....
Problem I am having is the stick figure in front of the cross. The figure is being grouped with the cross...not allowing me to properly color the image and separate how I need it. The text needs to be red, the cross black, the hearts red, and the stick people white...will be going on a blue t-shirt. Am I looking at having to create my own lines...or am I overlooking/not thinking of an easy way to do this?
All,is there any way of ungrouping all groups all at once?A multiple ungroup?I checked the archives and found quite a few references to this, but they all suggest using the GROUP command. How to select more than one group from the list provided in the dialog.----Situation,I have a bunch of text that the TEXT mask routine was run against, I need to clean (out) them as they seem to be making TEXT MASK crash during operation (in subsequent runs). Each piece of TEXT has ended up with it's own GROUP as a bi-product of using TEXT MASK the first time.
I need to take a word, and edit each letter individually. This includes changing shape, color, and slanting and twisting a letter. I want the "i" to be one color, and the dot over the "i" to be another color.
In my old drawing program, I converted the text to curves, then ungrouped the set of letters. I can't seem to be able to do this in Corel. Once converted to curves, when I select the text, the option to ungroup is greyed out.
i am posting this only after doing fruitless research online.
I have some old .ppf files which are teaching Slides like a Powerpoint type thing, each file I have has 15-20 pages in and they seem to open in Corel Draw no problem and I have been able to Ungroup also no Problem. But not sure how to put each slide on a separate page (automatically if Possible if not Manually)
Then I want to re-save as a more modern File that I can open or import to Powerpoint ..
I would Imagine that does not matter that they are a .ppf files as would be the same importing any multipage doc .
Previously i`m using version 2009 and importing Google earth image and surface works fine. However, recently i tried with version 2010 and i`m having some problem here (imported surface / contour seems ok but the image is too large like 3x or 4x). How to solve that?
I have a dwg that someone imported and I cannot find where this object is. I have tried searching the database with DBLink, Ideate BIMLink and I have gone into every view to no avail. I also used the reviTTools add-in which says there are no drawings in the file. Am I dealing with a corrupted file? I am super OCD and this is in our Template which makes it an even bigger problem.
Is it possible to use an imported text as a number? I would like to import a .txt tab formatted file containing some values (ex: 22.5; 50.00; 150.00, etc.), and I want to treat those values as numbers in my script. Is this possible?
I took a snapshot of a picture off my pdf file and opened it up in illustrator and now it has the circle with the slash through it, how can i edit it and draw on top of the imported image?
I converted all my FreeHand files. Some have transparencies. Illustrator shows the transparencies, but does not recognize them in the Transparency panel. It says they have 100% opacity even though they appear transparent. I assume this is just how they got converted. Is there any fast way to make them recognize their original opacity % as set in FreeHand?
How do you add a keyline stroke around an imported tiff, jpeg etc? In InDesign it's as simple as adding stroke to the frame (the frame is automatically created upon import).
OK, I think I figured this out and it is soooo Illustrator:
Add stroke to object (nothing visible happens); apply a 'convert to rectangle' effect to the invisible stroke and... voila, a simple keyline!
I've created an object containing several shapes in Illustrator CS6 and exported it as a DWG, In Autocad 2014 I've exploded the block using XPlode command, now I want to extrude this shapes so I can create a geometry and start doing booleans and so one.
When I click in the Extrude option and select any of this shapes I get an error saying that objects of this type can not be extruded. I'm completely stuck I've been going back and forth from illustrator to Autocad 2014 and I can't find what's wrong.
P.S. The shapes in Illustrator have no stroke or filling so you will have to "Select All" to see the whole thing. The DWG and AI files are inside the attached zip. The DWG has been exported using "File > Export" w/ "Maximum edit-ability" from Illustrator.
I produced a colour map and colour gradient legend as a postscript file (.ps) using generic mapping tools software running under linux. When I import this file into illustrator (in windows 8) the colour map is fine, but the colour gradient does not display properly. It appears as a bunch of white spaces and vertical colour bands of random colour. When I then try to export the file as a .pdf the colour gradient appears as solid blue. I've also tried producing a .pdf instead of .ps but it makes no difference.
It's worth noting that I have done this in the past with no problems. This particular problem first occurred a few months ago and is now persistent.
I have been watching MANY videos, but just cannot seem to figure out how to color the B&W photo I imported into Illustrator CC. Do I need to do something in Photoshop first? I was able to trace the image but from there I am lost.
I have a rectangle over a larger imported image, and I would like to get rid of the area that the ractangle covers. Clipping mask does the opposite, getting rid of the area outside, and pathfinder only works for paths, not imported images.
I made a simple poster using photoshop to make the background and illustrator to make the fonts and some other stuff. In CMYK my black is just 100% K ( in photoshop)
When placing image in illustrator the 100% K (black) changes to different black with C M Y added. But then when I save it as PDF the preview shows black as a bit grey (which is something normal- in print it will be just black). So my question is .. should I change enything just to be able to see a 100% K in illustrator in order to match CMYK values of Photoshop? Or should I leave it this way? I guess if I am getting a "grey" in PDF preview is something good isn'it? because in photoshop when I set to 100%K in my screeen it looks like grey and not total black.
I am trying to modify a bar graph that I have imported as a pdf from excel, and am having some trouble with customizing the color fill on the bars of the bar graph. When I select the object/bar and then fill with a different color, I see no change. However the menu shows the new color I selected for that particular object. Is there something weird about the type of object that the bar is when it is imported from excel?
OK I figured out that for some reason the bars on the bar graph are imported as clipping masks - very weird, you need to release the clipping mask, deselect the bar, select and delete the background shading, then fill the bar (which was previously the mask, I believe?) Why excel exports like this?
I notice something similar with the imported text labels associated with the same graph. When I select the text and change the font size, for some strange reason it can size up (say, from 10pt to 12pt) but not down (day, from 10pt to 8pt) It seems weird when I try to edit it at all really, as if the element was not a text element, is there some way to convert it to a text object? Ok this is working properly now, don't know why it was wonky before.
Images that are opened or psds that are imported are resized into an artboard that is smaller then the image. With raster image formats, the following behavior occurs:
For a jpg that is 1000x800px an artboard is opened at 1000x800px and an additional artboard at 360x288px with the actual raster image is created.
Any quick / clever / automated way of selected the container frame you get on imported items (and sometimes other elements) in illustrator (eg. cut and paste from indesign) and deleting it.
This frame can be selected by its points (usually i just swipe a corner point and press delete to get rid of the frame)
I'm having an issue with Illustrator 6. I had a previous verison (CS4 and CS5) that was used to created some documents. I'm having trouble with the fonts used translating to the new version even though in the font library, all the fonts I need are listed there.
I've created a hand drawn vector in Adobe Ideas and imported it into Illustrator CC. I've used a basic example below to test this method, but I want to be creating more complex hand drawn vectors in the near future. You can see the same line in the 3 images below. The third image shows a close up of the line where it's surrounded by 2 paths. Any way that I can merge the 2 paths in the third image into 1 path?
How can I tell which version of Illustrator my .ai file was created in? If I try to open it in a new version of Illustrator it just tells me it was created with an "older version". I need to know which version, as I'm being told by a programmer that I need to update all my Illustrator 9 .ai files. I need a way to identify them.
