I am using Illustrator CS5. I just got a new MacAir and was required to install Java6 (not sure if that's exactly what it was called) in order to use Illustrator. Now when I select the TYPE TOOL, it turns really light gray and then disappears whenever I move it onto the artboard. It worked before..
Using CS6. In the artboard window, I select an artboard tool icon next to an artboard. The artboard displays selected, with the usual grab handles at corners and the middle of sides that in Adobe-world always signal that an object can be resized. I am unable, however, to select the grab handles. When I try to do so, "beep."
An Artboard Options panel has also opened. i can resize the artboard by changing the Width and Height, but I have to guess what I want. If I close this panel, the grab handles go away.
Today Illustrator CS4 decided to start crashing on me when I try to paste text into the art board. It will also not allow me to type text into the artboard. Whenever I try to type, it just does all the tool shortcuts. I have alread tried deleting the preferences and that hasn't worked at all.
I've been making my drawing with the pencil tool obviously. After I make a stroke, I continue it with the last anchor point. But sometimes when I do that, the previous stroke disappears completley. Why is that?
I have 3 artboards open and am trying to move text from one artboard to another, each piece of text is on a different layer, but when I use the selection tool and just drag it across to the next artboard, nothing shows up. How do I move text from one artboard to another?
In InDesign I am able to assign a variable showing that page. Example = Page numbers in a book.
Is there a way to do this in Illustrator? Example = Panels for a structure. Labeling the panel with the artboard name.
For now I am doing this manually. I would LOVE to speed the process up.
DETAILS: The artboard names will exist on the artboard itself when printed (very tiny, in an area hidden by metal posts, for ease of assembly at a construction site). I also need the artboard name to show up outside the artboard in a slug area (much larger for easy viewing in the file).
I'd like to just Change the name of a duplicated artboard, and have those pieces of text change themselves, rather then me typing it in two places for every artboard... I can have almost 100 artboards in one file on the structures I work with.
1.) I dragged out vertical and horizontal guides from the rulers and then created a new art board. The new art board now has the horizontal guides carried over from the first art board. How can I have separate guides on each of my art boards? I am using art board rulers.
2.) Is there a way to layout vertical and horizontal guides on an art board and copy them over to a new blank art board?
I have a frustrating problem in CS3 that when writing a block of text, either with text tool or area text tool, that the cursor disappears. I need to see its new position after using the space bar or tab: ready to input the next piece of text. It seems to be flashing some of the time if I click into the middle of the text block, but disappears where I want to continue it at the bottom of the text block?
I am creating a logo, and I want all black parts to be visible, and all white parts to be invisible.I work in Illustrator CS5, and I have text with multiple strokes on top of another object...I want only the inner fill of the text to knockout to the artboard, while keeping the strokes intact.
I tried "knockout" tool, pathfinder merge, creating outline from text, and nothing has worked so far.I've browsed online forums for answers and nothing works.
I want all the black to be one file, and remove all the white. I tried the "select same" function, but this didn't work either.
I have an Illustrator document with ~100 artboards, each artboard named by me. Each artboard has one textbox in it. Is there a way to take whatever name I assign to the artboard and print it into the text box inside that artboard? So in the end I would be able to see the name associated with each artboard on the artboard itself. Ideally I could run the script once (i.e. "turn it on"), have it populate all the text boxes with the artboard names, and then have it dynamically update the textboxes when I change an artboard name regardless of whether the file has been closed and opened since I originally ran the script.
I'm 10 days from purchasing a version of CS6 after using CS2 for 7 years. I'm wondering if I have a defective program because the tool icon disappears when I switch tools and then reach for a new brush size. I have to click on my desktop to have the tool appear on my monitor. Also, is there a way of getting rid of the huge sample idicator that appears when you sample a color?
I have an image opened in PS CS6 I can see the image I select the Crop Tool The image dissapears completaly from the screen I select any other tool The image reappears again.
How to keep a section view of an iam active when accessing the distance tool? As soon as I click on the distance tool, the half-section disappears. This makes it difficult to measure relationships from one component to another. I am using Inventor 2013 which was recently installed on our workstations.
I have a clipped image that I've placed a drop shadow on (using layer styles) on a transparent background. I want to quickly use the crop tool to remove any un-used pixels or artboard.
I tried to activate "show the layer edges", but it does not account for the layer style/drop shadow I've placed and also it goes away when you start to use the crop tool itself. So this doesn't really work.
Is there another way to do this? Other than eyeballing it? I want the image too be cropped as tightly as possible, but I do not want to tight too tight and cut of the drop shadow.
I created text on a curved path using the pen tool and the the type on a path tool. However, there are portions of the text that I want to taper. For example, my text begins horizontally, continues to the right, and gradually curves downward. As the text curves downward I would like it to taper smoothly into a narrower and narrower text.
i'm basically making a shape with the pen tool, then i click the paint bucket, then the shape disappears. i've also done this with the rectangle tool and the exact same thing happens.
usually, it will work when i frst open the document, but after i start making new layers/text then i try to do this, the shape i make disappears.
how i can keep the shape so i can select the paint bucket tool?
I'm using Premiere Pro CC. I have created a title in title tool and I have added a drop shadow. I can see the drop shadow when I still have the title tool open. Once I close the title tool window the drop shadow disappears? I have tried different fonts nothing seems to work. Don't know what else to try?
Maybe it's a problem with Mavericks or with my Mac Mini late 2012. But when editign text with anchored images and other text frames, all the contect disappears. When I click outside the box with the selection tool, everything works ok again. It seems to me a visual glitch, because the content does not really disappears, only in does not allow you to "visually" edit it. If I use a visualization setting of low quality (image boxes shown as gray boxes) everything works as usual. Any clue?
I'm trying to do one of those jagged sliced text effects for a logo, but I can't get the knife tool to get text once I convert it to outlines (or before).
Does the knife tool not work on text and if not, what do people typically do to get these very perfect slices?
Since uprading to X5, virtually every file with text that I open has a problem. All text (artistic or paragraph) is visible when selected with Pick Tool but when Text Tool is selected, the text "disappears" either partially or totally. Very difficult to edit! Invisible text areas can be highlighted but not seen.
On the same page, when editing different different blocks of text, some have become totally invisible, or, just at the bottom of a paragraph, or just as a strip down the right hand side of artistic text (almost as though a white box was placed over it). Where there is a red underline, indicating a possible spelling mistake, the red line is still visible althought the text is not!
It is invisible in any Text Tool View - Enhanced - Wireframe etc.
Text reappears if I click on bottom middle handle (eg to flow to another paragraph) but as soon as released, it disappears again.
Ctrl W works rarely and only partially. I have tried different basic fonts with exactly same results. (eg Arial, Times NR)
Select text with Pick tool and there is full text again.
In the nature of my business I hardly have a file without text in it!
I'm plotting multiple sheets in revit 2011 (doesn't matter if it's 2 or 20,)the first sheet comes out fine, but all the rest has text / annotation that has disappered. Text in the title block, elevation markers, section markers, and column bubbles. The markers appear, but the text doesn't. My work around currently is to plot to pdf and then plotting the pdf. But this is a step that I shouldn't have to do.
I just installed Illustrator CS6 trial. I have been on Illustrator 9 for years. I am used to clicking on the type tool, then clicking on the artboard and typing a single word. I am not using actual text boxes. When I do that in CS6 I cannot get a bounding box to show me how to resize it using the transform tool (arrow tool). I've gone to view>show bounding box, but it does not do anything.
Whenever I try to resize a text box with the selection tool, it won't allow me to resize. I tried the text tool as well, but it didn't work. I don't want to resize the text, just show text that is hidden. I'm currently using CS4.
I have a big artboard with a simulation of a webpage, and a smaller artboard within it, where I'm designing the artwork, so that I know how the big picture will look. In the end, I intend to export the contents of the small artboard. The problem is that whenever I click by accident on the small artboard, my view of the web page gets off-centre.So in short, If I could just lock the small artboard, that would solve this annoyance. For now, I have two options: either delete the artboard and set it back in the end (it's got to be perfeclty positioned though) or, quite practically, just create a custom view with a shortcut that I can use instead of the "Actual size" one (Cmd+1).
I have a AI CS6 file with 16 artboards. I need to 'save for web" a jpg of each artboard. Is there a way to automate this, by setting up an action - or is there any way to do this? I'll be having to do it frequently.
