Illustrator :: Strategies For Creating Custom Extended Characters For Logo

Aug 7, 2013

I want to create a small custom set of extended uppercase characters for a company logo.

I am starting with H&FJ's Idle wild and then extending it even further. I'm initially squashing it vertically to 75%. This looks as bad as you'd imagine - the contrast of the letter forms is distorted (the horizontal lines look too thin compared to the vertical lines). However my earlier rough attempt to mimic the original contrast (ratio of width of vertical lines to horizontal lines is approximately 7:6) created something that I'm fairly happy with.

(Note that whilst I have now purchased Idle wild, I initially copied sample text from the H&FJ website and used Illustrator's trace function to create what is shown below, which explains the rather random bezier point placement. Incidentally I actually quite like some of the quirks this introduced to the letter forms - in particular the terminals of the S and the top of the A)

The word has only seven characters - ACHORST

Some of these (HT) are easy to fix manually. But in particular the round letters (COS) require a bit more thought.

I'm pretty sure back 15 years ago I could have got most of the way there quickly with CorelDRAW. From memory there was an option to use strokes ('outlines' in Corel terminology) which weren't uniform height and width. So in this instance I'd create a 'nib shape' for the stroke which was much taller than it was wide, and applying this to the letterforms would restore the contrast to roughly that of the original. (I know that typographers don't simply do something like this to create different weights of a typeface, but for my purposes I suspect it would get me most of the way there and then I could tweak it visually.)

The only wasy I can see to alter the stroke shape in Illustrator is via the Profile dropdown in the stroke dialog options, but this seems to be purely for 'artisitc' effect and  entirely inappropriate for my purposes.

Photoshop :: Creating High Quality Website Logo In Illustrator

Oct 4, 2012

I'm trying to create a very high quality crips website logo using Photoshop or Illustrator, but everytime I export the design into PNG, the text borders are not as crip compared with Google logo. How do I create a very crips and sharp logo using Adobe software? What software, how to export, what the size of the document should be, what resolution, any detailed tricks, designs and pointers..I know I can create a logo, but it is blurry and it shows. When I put my logo on a gray background for instance, the text becomes more blurrier.

AutoCAD Visual LISP / AutoLISP :: Using Special Characters In Custom Command

May 4, 2012

I'm trying to write a simple Custom Command that sets any layer that matches "$-*" to a specific color. But as soon as AutoCAD sees the $, it thinks I'm trying to do a DIESEL expression. Supposedly, the quote marks specify that the enclosed characters should be treated as plain text, but that doesn't happen. Here's what I've got:

^C^C-LAYER;C;252;"$-*";;

And this is what I get:

Command: -LAYERCurrent layer: "$-HATCH-00-002-PW-BOAT"Enter an option [?/Make/Set/New/Rename/ON/OFF/Color/Ltype/LWeight/MATerial/Plot/Freeze/Thaw/LOck/Unlock/stAte/Description/rEconcile]: CNew color [Truecolor/COlorbook] : 252Enter name list of layer(s) for color 252 <$-HATCH-00-002-PW-BOAT>: "No matching layer names found.Enter an option [?/Make/Set/New/Rename/ON/OFF/Color/Ltype/LWeight/MATerial/Plot/Freeze/Thaw/LOck/Unlock/stAte/Description/rEconcile]:
It stops, hanging at the incompleted -LAYER command prompt.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Strategies To Interchange Designs

Sep 17, 2013

You have the main alignment and you have to design an out-lane alignment. Standards describes the wedge and parallel lane lengths, depending on speed, road type and grades.By last you have to perform a "connection" between main and out alignments, basically an interpolation. So you have 3 areas/tasks to do:

1.- Wedge and parallel definition

2.- Locate the area in which main alignment and out alignment are pseudo parallel.  This area is located between the intersection of lanes widths  and the point defined by intersection of shoulders.

3.- The area between this last point  and a singular point (defined by standards)  in which we can consider the alignments are fully independent.

4.- The area between point 2 and the point in which vertical profile and superelevation are independent for out alignment.

You have to define a lot of things, profile, superelevation, transitions, etc..As far as I have seen, there is not any tool to do all of this.

Photoshop :: Font Matching For Custom Logo

Mar 4, 2009

I've just taken two decals off my mountain bike, not realizing that the frame had a lacquer coating on top of them. In case you're wondering why I did one and was then stupid enough to repeat my mistake, its one on either side of the frame .

I'm now been left with a large mark were there is no lacquer on either side. I've asked around and found that it can't be neatly covered without a complete respray. I have, however, found a local company who can make custom decals to put over it if I provide them with a design. So I've obtained a copy of Photoshop CS3 and tried to make my name in a similar font to the large manufacturer decal (which is still on the frame). I'm trying to get Chris on one side and Walker on the other with the same dimensions.

Photoshop :: Logo Design Using Picture And Custom Font

Mar 21, 2006

I want to create a logo. The word I am creating is going to be Foxx. I want the backside of the F to have a fox's head coming out of it. I want the appearance of the Fox's had to be growing from the back side of the F. I am capable of pulling this off. I am more interested in the techniques that some of you would use to acheive this task.

1.What I would do is find a picture of a fox's face in this case a profile shot.

2.I'd then import that pic and extract the head from the fox (only in the picture PETA )

3.I'd then use my combination of the pen tool, shape tool, and direct selection tool to trace the fox's face.

4.Finally I'd design the F to match the fox's face.

I do not have Illustrator.

Photoshop :: Creating A Logo

new file and I wonder what options I have to choose.

I would like to create a logo for a website that can also be used for printing.
The logo for the website has to have a transparant background so that what is now white in the first attached image will be the color of the website.

I would also like to be able to later change the colors in the logo. (like the second version with a black background and white text)

Is what I want possible ?

So what mode do I best choose ?

CYMK for printing or RGB for web ? or doesn't it matter ?

Contents

Transparant ? or Background color.

Photoshop :: Creating A Logo

May 31, 2006

I'm trying to create a simple but memorable and unique logo for my daughter's daycare center. The owner wanted to put this logo on tshirts, so it's gotta be able to be silkscreen or easy to print for iron on transfers. It's a Christian Organization, but the logo can't state that, or it can but very subtle.

With that this is what we came up with and what i created using PSCS2. Please tell me if there is anything else it could use or take away from. I appreciate the feedback. I'm not a graphic designer at all, so I'm still learning a lot. I have made a couple of signature jpg for a couple of forums but that's it.

Photoshop :: LOGO Needs To Be Vector Without Re-Creating It!

Dec 5, 2007

She now tells me she wants it in different sizes without pixel issues. The only way I know to do this is through vectorizing the file. Is there any way at all possible to save this file as a vector without re-creating it?

The file is a multi-layered product which I felt was a bad idea for a logo, but it's what they wanted.

I've read through googling, there are programs to do this for me. I also read somewhere where I could export the file out as a PDF and CorelDraw could do it. But does this mean tracing out the file -- and basically recreating it?

GIMP :: Creating Basic Logo - Blocks Of Text Appear As Different Layers

Nov 24, 2011

So I've created a few different blocks of text, which appear as different layers in the layers dialog box.

The area I've created them in 640x400. The various words placed together is much smaller though. So I want to crop the image to just be their size. However, attempting to select all the text bits fails, as I seem to be confined to whatever layer I last clicked on the layers dialog box. e.g. The word "shop" is selected, and highlighting all words using results in only the word "shop" being active to work with.

How do I unselect a layer, or choose all of them??

Illustrator :: Stretching Single Characters In CS6?

Apr 18, 2013

I am working on a logo which has the word "E-Commerce" in it. I am using a font that works quite well for it but the dash is way too long, it's in fact longer than an m dash and the font doesn't have anything else.

Short of modifying the font file or turning it into outlines, is there a way I can just make that one character shorter? I seem to remember that in earlier versions of Illustrator you could set the font width but all I can see in the character pane in CS6 is kerning and tracking. I don't want to use the transform tool because it would stretch all the text inside the box.

Illustrator :: How To Save Custom Artboard Setup With Custom Document Profile

Nov 1, 2012

Is there a way to save a custom artboard setup with a custom document profile in illustrator cs5? I do technical illustrations and our page size is odd (7.19 x 8.96. It the size that our Framemaker layout is set to.). I have a custom document profile that I use, but I use the grids all the time so that my callouts are spaced out evenly around the art. I would like to have a way to set the artboard up so that the grid will align to the center of the artboard everytime I turn them on. Right now they always start from the top left and when I center art in the center of the page, the grid spacing isn't the same on each side of the art. I just want to be able to open my document profile, turn on my grids, have them start from the center, and I can get down to business. As it is now I have to go into my artboard settings and manually adjust the grid to the center. Small annoyance, but it still annoys me. I have tried to save it a few different ways, but nothing has worked. Maybe there just isn't a way.
