Illustrator Scripting :: How To Import Text Automatically
Sep 26, 2013Have to enter a lot of text snippets into illustrator cs4 every day, would love to make my live easier.
I'm trying to figure out how to import text to illustrator automaticly.
I have olny a few parameters: the text, what font to use, the size of the text (the text width and length in mm as if the text would be converted to outlines, needs to be exactly the right size) and the coulor.
Usually its one line of text, sometimes more lines of wich i have the widht and length of the complete block of text
The parameters could be in a cvs-file or something like that, ideally all texts would be imported in one file but it could be seperate files
Texts should be converted to outlines and saved as AI version 3
Is it possible to do this?

I've figured out how to get the dimensions of the artboard, but I'm at a loss as to how to apply a transform effect with a script. It looks like it might be in the Matrix suite, but none of the descriptions there make much sense to me.

Oct 26, 2012A client wants to modify vector drawings automatically via database, preferably Microsoft Sharepoint Server running SQL. The modifications could be as simple as changing the color of a flag or overlay or as complicated as changing object dimensions and appearance.
I'm thinking SVG, but is there a more efficient method, something that can modify Illustrator files directly?

Nov 11, 2012I need to automatically create all the possible pattern combinations with 6 shapes and 6 colors.
I have an Excell file with assigned color combinations (values from 1 to 6) in the rows, and the shape name (A to F) in the columns. Column 7 is a string containin the color combination names (i.d. 123456, 123345 etc...) so that I can output each combination with the color/numbers in the name.
I'd like Illustrator to pick every row and assign the contained colors to each shape of the column and to export a .png with the name from column 7 content.
Just simple as that! But to me it sounds pretty hard!
Is there a script that makes it already posted somewhere? - i couldn't find any - or something simliar to start coding from?

For example we have something like this:

Font: Myriad

and so on.
I want AI CS5 to:
1. create an eps File1, create a folder named File1, put File1.eps in it
2. type the text Hello, apply Myriad 22pt and PMS 254 to it, centre it to the artboard
3. Place all jpegs, pngs, eps source files on the artboard and embed them.
4. Save the file as eps legacy version 10, close the file and move to the next file.
AutoCAD Inventor :: Dimensions Of Rectangular Prism
Jan 1, 2014regarding obtaining the dimensions of a simple retangular prism?
In this particular case (file attached) the geometry was imported from Revit, so it's really just imported SAT file. After importing, "Make components" was run to generate individual part files. The resulting part is therefore created using the origin of the parent assembly, so although it's "just a box" - it is spatially displaced and oriented at an unknown angle.
I'm looking for a way to identify the 3 dimensions that define the shape of the prism.

Kind of like what you would see on a drafting drawing for a construction project: leaders coming off the edges, arrows extending between the leaders, and a dimension indicating the length of a side.
I don't plan to make a sophisticated drawing, so don't need something like AutoCAD, but I would like to indicate, say, the height and width of a rectangle, or the angular measure between sides in a triangle. My images are very simple geometric shapes.
Is this possible in GIMP?

I learned building 3d shapes, inputting numbers for positioning and dimensions as you were forming them, but for some reason, the programme stopped letting me input them in boxes on each axis on the shape, I can only type them in to the status bar at the bottom. This is making it a lot more difficult for me. how to get the option back?

In 2007, when you move your mouse cursor on a vertice of a selected geometry, a rectangle for example, Autocad will automatically display the dimension of the geometry. This features seems to have been turned off by default. How to turn it back on?

Dec 18, 2012I'm try to automate the importing of the Varaible and datasets into my graphs via Scripting, but the ImportVaraibles() function doesn't seem to work. Here is my Script, mostly copied from the example script provided with Illustrator (CS5). And, this works manually, using the file names in the script, via Load Variable Library

If I remove that delete line, the script runs, but just uses whatever Variables I had last loaded, not the XML file.
It's simply not loading. What do I need to do to get it to load?

I want to select only those objects that are fully or partially within that marquee.
I can use the lasso to select objects in this way. But if I try to use the selection or direct selection tool, it selects and moves the first object I touch.
I can use the selection tools and begin from outside the image area and create a rectangular marquee of selected objects. But I can't do this if I begin within the image.

Jun 20, 2013I am trying to add an anchor to the left and right sides of a rectangular path at the exact same height. The easy method seemed: drag a guide to the right point and add the anchors at the intersection. But this is adding the anchors to the guide rather than the path "underneath" the guide? How can I place the anchor on the path?
Or is there a better way to achieve this?

I am trying to paste 3 shapes from Illustrator into Photoshop. The shapes are layered; I need them to be separate layers in PS. I am copying the shapes from AI and pasting into PS as separate Shape layers. The problem is that when I paste the shape layers, the position in which they land on the canvas is not consistent... they don't line up properly. This means I will have to manual reposition the shapes in Photoshop?
(as a side note, I'm baffled that there is not way to export my AI document as a PSD, and retain the layers as vector shapes... exporting to PSD requires I rasterize the artwork. Has this been added to CS6?)

Feb 21, 2014I usually make a 6 petal flower shape by creating a petal, flipping a copy and rotating 2 copies at 60 degrees. (at left, below). But I want to make a 5 petal flower and cannot figure out how to do that. let's say I have an elongated oval and I want to rotate 4 more copies at 72 degrees. And I want it to be "mathematically perfect / evenly spaced, using the black dot as the point of rotation. how would i do that?
