I would love to be able to choose the scaling algorithm used. In this case, the raster layer was scaled down with a bicubic algorithm, which worked fine for it.
After working on a complex, multi-layer image, if I save the result as PSD and not as XCF, will I lose anything when I return to the file later?

Save For Web offers 5 resampling algorithms (the same 5 as in Image Size, ignoring "Bicubic Automatic", of course) for when the output is being resized.
All choices except "Nearest Neighbor" output an identical image (which is different to all results of Image Size). Although the "Bilinear" output contains the same pixels as the output of the 3 bicubics, its file size is slightly different than their shared file size.
They all look different than the .psd. The image generally comes out looking darker and more blurry.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI create graphs, etc in Illustrator, place them as Smart Objects in a master Photoshop file before outputting Save for Web JPEGs to use as PowerPoint slide backgrounds. Everything created in Illustrator or Photoshop through that process (Quality 80 or 100 with any of the SfW options on or off) Save for Webs are blurry when imported (at 100%) into PowerPoint.
The only way I have been able to get anything crisp in PowerPoint was saving a Photoshop pdf. However, that was only the text created in Photoshop. The Illustrator Smart Object part was still blurry. What is the best process to combine Photoshop and Illustrator files into one file for import into PowerPoint as a clean, crisp background?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using Illustrator to crop and arrange a number of raster images. However, I'm starting to have file management problems, because the Illustrator files quickly balloon in size.
Example: I got public domain jpg image of a deer off the Wikimedia Commons. This jpg image is 0.35MB. I opened up a new Illustrator document, placed and embedded the image, and saved the document (with the 'pdf compatible box' unchecked). The resulting Illustrator file is 7.7MB in size, over 20 times the size of the embedded jpg image.
I've looked around these forum, but other than the 'pdf compatible box', I couldn't find any good solutions. Is there some other option or preference that I could tweak? I need to use embedded images rather than links, but the files are getting out of control (>100MB).
The screen capture at the end of this post shows the situation. In the top folder in the screencapture, the image file is highlighted, so you can see the filesize. In the lower folder in the screencapture, the Illustrator file is highlighted, so you can see it's filesize. Then you can see the open Illustrator document on the right. View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to create a new logo and now that I've created it, I try to save it and once saved, It looks very blurry/fuzzy. But in illustrator it looks excellent! It's just in the saved copy that looks horrible. I'm just metally drained and don't know to do

I've tried every possible format just about for the logo to be saved as. Even in the browser preview mode in save for web, it looks horrible. I'm needing this logo to be saved as jpeg, png, or something relative.
I have this problem in CS5 that any type of image or line art are always blurry. All my work is for print and perhaps just the preview is blurry but I am afraid that printing will be bad.
Most graphics I bring in are from Photoshop CS5. I make sure they are 300DPI to start and recently learned they should not be in RGB mode but CMYK.
The images I should also mention when placed are very small and I have to scale them to be the correct size. I do not know why they do not place as their original size. So basically it is small size and blurriness.
I tried to use some flags in an ai. file. The flag size I want is very tiny, less than 1cm. It's very strange that when the printer show me the pdf proof, some flags(png and TIF) looks blurry while the others(also png and TIF) looks ok. I download those flags online and the image looks very big and I only need them in a tiny size so I just shrink them and think it should be alright; I don't understand why they are blurry. My question is can I use the SVG flags that I download from Wikipedia and use them on the ai. file?
P.S. I guess it's the complexity of the flag that affects the quality. Because I have a TIF flag sized 4.2MB and still shows blurry.
I am exporting an image for web in Illustrator 6 and my images are all turning out blurry. I have attached a sample image as well as a screenshot of my current settings, although I have messed with the settings quite a bit and I seem to have this problem no matter what I do., URL....
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have created specific pixel height and width images for Facebook and other Social-Media applications. When I export or save for web, the images are pixelated or blurry. I have tried for art or for type, both seem to provide pixelated images for both png or jpg.
You can see the blurred lines in this image.
I've been working on items in Illustrator, and noticed a HUGE change when I transfer them into Photoshop. What I am doing is creating images (and text) in Illustrator.
Then I select, Control + C to copy, then I paste into my 300dpi document in Photoshop to add textures, etc. Once they are brought in... the text is pixelated and not clear like it is in Illustrator.

Why is this so and what can I do?

Now I tried to built in two other scripts in the palette. In this scripts it is required to use special characters in variables. Standalone these scripts are work correct. Here is an simple example:

I placed text on a shape and outlined it. As soon as I create a compound path, the result appears lighter than the originally outlined text (on screen and printed), although the paths seem to be identical when I overlay them. Same happens when I divide the paths.

I have saved it as a pdf format and the image stays as a sharp vector image and not blurry at all.
But I also want to keep the image as a jpeg. So when I go to export the image from illustrator CS6 as a jpeg, the end result comes out blurry and not sharp anymore, but more jagged on the edges of the image.
Is there anything I can do to keep my file as a jpeg with it staying as a sharp crisp image?
I've been using illustrator to vectorize some of my png files I've modified and rasterized in photoshop. The image trace feature has worked fine for me until yesterday when it started making my images very impreciese and blurry. I'll attach a before and after shot of exactly what I'm talking about.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using a script to export multiple layers of 16x16 pixel icon files into separate PNG files. It works very well with one big exception. All layers that contain text becomes very blurry.I have tried converting the text into outline paths before exporting, but it does not work. The text becomes blurry and thick.
When performing a regular Non Script export to a PNG file you are allowed to chose antialiasing method between "type" and "art". When using the "type" alternative everything looks good, but when the "art" alternative is selected the text look very blurry and bad.When using script multiexporters it seems they all use the art version. But I have tried a bunch of other scripts as well but with the same blurry result for the text. How to get the option to chose the type optimized initializing for the script exports?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm using the save for web function to save a large number of files (not batch saving)usually, when I open a file and start saving for web, it will remember the folder that I most recently exported to, and by default open that folder for that file, until I "save for web" into a different folder.
Out of seemingly nowhere, the save for web seemed to "forget" this folder (and any other folder I tried to save to), and now defaults to the "Documents" folder, causing me have to click through to find my intended destination folder. I'm on CS5 & Mac running Mountain Lion. On my work computer (exactly the same, Mac + Mountain Lion) I am using CS6 and have not encountered this issue.
In Illustrator CS4, from time to time I will be working on a document, and then go to save it, but instead of the usual "Save", the program acts as though I've selected "Save As". The result is that I have to write the same file overtop of the existing file!

I have imported my existing folder structure to catalog.
My current folder names contain when, where, what & who information. I created a couple of smart collections, but all I get are images. How do I get a result set of folders? Easy example is 'wedding'. I need a list of WEDDING EVENTS, not 20,000+ wedding images that have no meaning when shown together. I assume this must be easy, but have already spent way too long trying to figure out how!
I'm having a problem throught CS6 with the Open, Save, or Save As dialog boxes not opening for a period of time after clicking on the desired functions. It can take over a minute just to get the Open dialog box up to browse for a file. Eventually, the dialog boxes open, but during the time that it's trying to open, the program is unresponsive. It is happening with all of my CS6 programs. I have unistalled and reinstalled with no fix. The programs are updated.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIn CS3 I use a Dust & Scratches filter on a layer in a high resolution (3200+ppi) 16bpc image, then traditionally change the layer blend mode to Difference, make a duplicate of a channel which has the clearest information of where the filtered changes were made, and use levels to increase the contrast on a copy of that channel. Occasionally I get this result though - the Levels adjustment preview shows spots clearly, but clicking OK results in something very different from the preview. This only seems to happen occasionally.and result looks like this:
As the purpose of the channel is to make a mask, the result isn't as good as I'd like. I assumed that the problem might have been the grey starting colour of the channel, so I pushed the 0 up to 9 in an attempt to get a uniform K value of 100% on the darkest areas, and then ran a second Levels adjustment to make the white spots brighter. The second levels adjustment resulted in pretty much the same result as above, again, not what was shown in the preview. I also assumed that it may be down to numbers and that levels is occasionally too limited to deal with all the shades of grey on a 16 bit channel. Probably wrongly as this normally works exactly as required.
This only happens occasionally, and isn't that big a deal - I can quite happily go and use a Curve instead. I'm just wondering why the preview in the adjustment window is different from the actual result. The fact that it only happens on some of my images is what concerns me - purging all beforehand does not make any difference.how to get accurate results in the preview? Is the preview using a different method to show the results? Unfortunately I won't have a copy of CS6 to try this on until a couple of weeks from now, so not sure the best way for someone to try and replicate it on newer versions.
Is there a way to see the end result of a pattern as you are creating it?
That is a way so you can see the pattern tiled all over the document. So say you are working on a 100x100 area to be the pattern in layer 1, but you want to see this replicated over an entire document. Maybe you have an overall image/document that is 800x600 say, and you work on the 100x100 area in a layer. Anyway some way of doing is so that when you make a small change in the 100x100 area of the layer you're using for the patter creation, you immdiately see the replicated result of the 800x600 area.
