Illustrator :: PDF / X1a With A Logo Containing Colorized Grayscale TIFF Not Printing Properly

Sep 24, 2013

I have a 3 color logo: black, PMS 200U, and PMS 1955U. The logo was built in Illustrator and I have placed grayscale tiff ontop of it. The grayscale tiff is a stipple (dots) effect that I colorized to PMS 1955U in Illustrator, masked it out on top of the logo, and set it to multiply. Within Illustrator, the separations look good and it prints fine when printing directly out of illustrator.

The problem is when I export it to a PDF/x1a and try to print it, it doesn't print properly. Printing from acrobat, it only previews and prints the PMS 1955U stipple and black. The flat PMS 200U under the tiff doesn't print. I've tried bitmapping the photoshop file and making the stipple monochromatic and still doesn't seem to work when exporting to a PDF and printing.

Funny thing is, when I do the whole process for the CMYK logo (not PMS), it all prints out fine as a PDF/x1a.

How to get the logo to export and print properly?

Photoshop :: How To Change TIFF Grayscale Logo Into Blue

Sep 26, 2012

I've been trying to solve this problem for the past months. Everytime I needed our company logo, but everytime it failed and I setteled for the low resolution blue logo I allready have.

So far I tried combinations of the following:

changing .tiff into .PSD
grayscale into CMYK

changing hue and saturation

1 goto Layer - New adjustment layer - Curves - change the blend mode to "Screen"
2 goto Layer - New adjustment layer - Curves - change the blend mode to "Multiply"

this all results in a slightly lighter or darker picture, but no color..

Illustrator :: Composite Grayscale Printing Option?

Why is there no composite grayscale printing option in Illustrator? I see it in Acrobat and Indesign. There are times we need to print grayscale composites to check layout and content.

Besides converting all colors to grayscale, I see no way to simply print grayscale out of Illustrator. Am I missing something?

Illustrator :: CS6 - Preparing A Logo For Printing On Black T-shirt?

Oct 10, 2012

I'm pretty familiar with preparing files for print in Illustrator and am currently using CS6. However, I'm not at all familiar with preparing files for printing on non-white fabrics (a black t-shirt in this case). I've had a hunt on Google but haven't yet found a simple answer to my question which is this:

The logo is red and black on a white background (shown below). How do I make sure that the white area prints as white and not "no ink" as would happen when printing on white stock?

There will be a small run initially, so will probably use a heat transfer method rather than screen printing at this point.

Photoshop :: CS5 - Printing In Grayscale

Jun 3, 2012

I'm using photoshop cs5 on an imac and printing with an epson cx4200. I made black and white collages in grayscale and am printing them on fabric. The first few I printed look great but now they aren't true black and white. They have a blue or red tinge to them. I don't know if the settings were inadvertently changed but I don't know what to do.

I assume I should have photoshop manage colors rather than the printer but I don't know what options to choose to eliminate the red or blue tinge in the grayscale image.

We create 4/1 postcards in Photoshop CS2 and then Print them on an IKON CCP650. The problem we're running into is that the IKON sees the grayscale back as color, so we are being charged double for each back printed.

We create the images new as grayscale; then save them as pdf with the color conversion option turned off. I don't know what - if anything - I'm missing that would make the IKON see the image as colored.

Photoshop Elements :: Grayscale Printing As Color?

Oct 14, 2012

I am using Elements 6 for Mac with OS 10.6. My printer is a Canon MG8120, which uses several color cartridges (including a black and gray) and a pigment black cartridge.

Today I tried to print a B&W line-art document, and it printed in a faint yellow. I tried another B&W doc, and the same thing happened. I exported the documents as both .pdf and .jpeg, and they printed in B&W using the Preview application.

As it happens, all the color carts in my printer are either low or out of ink. Only the pgiment black is full (I put it in yesterday). So I wonder if my B&W docs have been printing from the color carts and not the pigment black cart. Is there any way to get PSE to use the pigment black cart?

Lightroom :: Can't Control Borders Properly When Printing

Sep 8, 2012

I use large sheets of paper in my printer and typically want to print several photos on one sheet. In order to use the entire 19" length of the paper I select "borderless" printing in the printer options of my Epson Stylus Photo R3000 printer.  For example, I create a template with five 5x7 photos and two 4x6 photos on one 13x19 sheet of paper. I then want each cell to have a border of 7 pts. I set this in the appropriate print option in Lightroom. I select each photo and drop it onto the appropriate cell.  When I print this selection, Lightroom fails to preserve the 7pt borders of the various cells that lie on the outside edges of the paper.  It preserves the 7 pt borders everywhere else.  This occurs for any possible expansion setting I choose under the 'borderless' selection.

Conversely, if I do not select 'borderless' printing I get double width borders around the outside edges of the paper, single width borders on the interior edges, and therefor I cannot fit the last two 4x6 prints on the paper.

Is this a bug or is there a combination of settings which will give me what I want.

AutoCAD LT :: Printing File With TIFF Overlay

Jul 8, 2013

I'm on a help desk where we have several users who run Win7, but can't publish any projects that have a TIFF overlay. Let me correct that. It prints, but that TIFF overlay is not included.

They print to a Xerox 6204 Wide Format printer, and every single Win7 user has this problem (32 and 64 bit). The one person that still runs XP doesn't have this problem. This sounds like a driver problem to me, but we've reinstalled the drivers and still no change.

And yes, the image is 300dpi, no worries about all that pixels per inch stuff, it does not matter, it's all about format.

This problem does not appear when we print only the tiff images on a laser printer or print the entire drawing to a plotter. Also print these drawings with the tiff images without any problems under the previous operating system (XP). Note that we use the latest drivers for all printers.

I am cleaning up the Hard Drive on my Mac G4. My scanned images are taking a great portion of the 80 Gig drive. I finished clearing my external drive by removing nearly 60 gigs of images by storing them on DVD. I will do the same for the Mac drive.

My trouble is that all my images are stored in TIFF format which takes up enormous space no matter the storage. Since I output images in various sizes, mainly prints, to 30 x 40 inches, I need a master image archived in the best format for such. However, I do not want to fill my drives, or DVD, with large files. Code:

Illustrator :: Set Grayscale As Default For TIF Export?

Jan 14, 2013

99.5% of the work I do for my employer is grayscale and I'd love to set grayscale as the default setting for export of .tif files from Illustrator, rather than cmyk which we very rarely use. Is there any way of doing this? My co-artists and I generate dozens and dozens of tifs every day, and this would not only be a time-saver but would prevent the occasional cmyk tif from sneaking through (they don't work in the system we use and always must be sent back - wasting more time).

Illustrator :: How To Easily Hatch Complex Grayscale Image

Mar 8, 2014

I've been trying to hatch a complex image with a single pattern, but with different stroke weights.

Here I added an image of a simple greyscale image with below the hatching that I'm trying to make. In short: I want to use only 45 deg. hatches in this direction. However, based on the grey value, I'd like the hatches to have different weights.

However, since this image is quite simple, only four different weights were needed. However, I'd like to know if there is an easy way to do this for complex images. For this image I just used pattern fills with different stroke weights, but I'd like a smoother and easier solution, preferably one where it would be possible to have many different weights without having to split up the image in thirty different parts and making thirty different pattern fills.

I'm not sure if this is possible, but I might be overlooking something. If it would be possible with a plugin, I'd like to know too. Even if there might be a workaround via Photoshop, and the end-result would not be a perfect vector, It'd be fine.

Illustrator :: Color Turns Grayscale When Converted From RGB To CMYK?

Dec 4, 2012

I have a complex pattern, that looks brilliant with a color layer. However, it was originally created RGB.

I converted the color to CMYK for print, and all the color disappears! Not that the layer is deleted, but the color layer appears Grayscale. The only area where color shows up are in the pieces that are at 50% transparency (see purple diamond). I have all my color areas set to CMYK including the color pallet.

The color will show if I set the layer to multiply, but it doesn't look the same way as it does when its in RGB mode.

Illustrator :: Color Mode And Settings For Grayscale To Monochrome Laser Printer

Mar 27, 2013

Is there a best setting for the mode, color settings, and color profiles when printing a grayscale vector illustration to a monochrome laser printer? I am making vector maps, and right now they are mostly black line and black text with only the K values in CMYK. There are some gray tones—for example water areas are 10% K, with no C, M or Y. Would it make any difference if I used RGB mode values at 100% (255,255,255), or a rich black in CMYK (such as 40C, 30M, 30Y, 100K)? I printed in K only at 1200dpi to a Generic Gray Gamma 2.2 profile, and it doesn't look too bad. There aren't many of the lines that are really jagged. I just wondered if there are better settings.

I'm using Mac OS 10.6, Illustrator CS6, and a Brother HL-5470DW monochrome laser printer.
