Illustrator :: Is There A Blending Technique To Improve Image

View 6 RepliesI am recently having a lot of fun after I discovered the power of blending. So here is my "protocol": I create two similar shapes, I make sure that they have a colored stroke, I use the blender, then I modify the path with the pencil, and I get this kind of results
I am quite happy with this, because of the fake 3D effect that it generates. I kind of understand that the "3D- shading" effect comes from the stroke color. However, this method has its limitations because:
- it only works with a stroke
- it gives different aspects depending of the number of steps.
Is there any way to smooth the effect created by the strokes to avoid the segmentation seen of the picture above?
Ideally, the best tool would be some kind of "extrude+blend on free path" tool, but it doesn't seem to exist in Illustrator yet...
I would like to sharpen & brighten a number of different b & w images - mostly etchings & prints - but it seems like gimp is exclusively color oriented.
Attached is a sample of the type of image I want to work on.
I know some people are familair with this technique where you highlight an image and the picture turns out to be someone/thing else from what was before it was highlighted. Anyone know of this technique? I know it requires the filter/render/checkerboard plugin but I can't find it anywhere. It involves opacity and masking.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI would like to know which tools to improve the border of a small image after rotation. Something like sharpening.
The picture is around 25px wide. When magnified, it shows like this :
The original image pure red and pure white.
The white line, that is a ~1 px from the border is at some points too much polluted by the red color. And the red color is locally too much polluted by the white color.
There is also some aliasing that I want to remove.
I've recently come up againast a wall in Illustrator. I'm producing a large, detailed pie chart, and the fine slices aren't being shown accurately.
For example, if you prodoce a simple 3-slice pie chart using: 99.5, 0.1, 0.4 .... the smallest slice will be lost. It looks as though Illustrator will not show anything under a quarter of a per cent.
I have seen three brush technques to lighten and darken parts of an image, dodge & burn, to enhance dimension (look more 3D):
1. Create a Curves Adjustment Layer set to lighten or darken image, fill it's mask w. black and paint w. white to dodge or burn respectively. Two layers are required, one to dodge, one to burn.
2. Creat a new layer w. Overlay mode and "Fill w. Overlay-neutral color (50% gray) set in the "New Layer" dialogue box. Then paint with white or black to dodge or burn respectively.
3. Duplicate the layer to be modified and use the Dodge & Burn Tool.
Is one method better than the other for non-destructive overall control and ease of use?
I'm looking for a technique for removing the background from an image similar to the way noise canceling headphones work.
Prior to shooting the portrait, we took a picture of the background and then, without moving the camera, took the portrait so that we were left with two images, one with and one without the subject.
Noise canceling headphones cancel sound by emitting a sound wave that is the exact opposite of the sounds they pick up from the outside. I'm wondering if there is some technique that could be used to make all pixels in the background a specific color (by mixing with its "opposite") to then improve the functionality of the fuzzy select or select by color tools.
I've got this image that i've taken with my cell phone.
I know it's difficult to improve, however i've noticed that there is a patten to the noise.
I have a few images that are essentially line drawings (B&W) that I want to make larger for presentation (i.e., click for larger size) on our new Website. The current size is not large enough.
If I increase pixel sizes, the quality is terrible. For example, see:
[URL]....on our 'test Website'. [Please note Website is work-in-progress.]
Settings *jpg: Width - 270; Height - 138; Scale styles - Y; Constrain proportions - Y; Resample image - Bicubic
If I increase *jpg to Width - 450; Height - 230, I get UGLY.
When I Save for Web as *gif, I change Width - 450; Height - 230, it still appears fuzzy, although not as much.
I am trying to create my logo like this shoe lace technique. Here:
but this how far I got:
I am having hard time drawing those shadow areas. The picture above I used pen tool but its not working out that good.
What technique should I use to make the edge of a video reel border the speech bubble, like in the attached sketch. I've already traced the speech bubble and the exclaimation mark.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm making a signature for another forum and this forum has interchangable backround colors so I was wondering how I could make my convex image blend in with whatever backround its put against.
Wanted to ask what the best method would be to smooth the (outer) seam on the attached image. I added the outer band for a bleed and want to blend the seam (or maybe there is a better way to create a bleed on this).
View 4 Replies View RelatedAnytime I try to cutout a piece of an image and paste it into another image, the final result always turns out bad. It looks exactly like what it is...a cutout pasted onto another image.
Are there any good tips or tutorials on what to do to an image cutout to make it blend more seamlessly into another image?
i want to take the acura logo and put it over a picture of my car and make it like transparent but still able to see the edges?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a high-res image of a model of a ship that I'm looking to put on top of a seascape image. The pictures below are a lot smaller and cropped then actual.
Here is a crop of the image of the ship, luckily it's on a plain background and nothing more complicated: After much trial and error, Fluid Mask did a decent job and I'm on the fence about saying useable:
However, this is a thought I had when scrolling through blending modes on the ship's layer. Here it is on Multiply:
Obviously it's too dark, but in terms of the edges on the small details like the ropes, it looks great. I got thinking about somehow automating Photoshop to recognize wherever a pixel is different from the background layer below it, Photoshop would be able to tell where the image is and where the background is, since Multiply removes any white but leaves other colors (albeit darker).
I don't know how this would be done if it's possible at all, I'm guessing with some sort of code made into a plugin or something.
I am trying to understand the difference between apply image and blending modes as I realize my grasp of it is weak.
Why blending the duplicate of an image with the original, with a given blending mode, does not give the same result as, Applying the duplicate of an image to the original with the same given blending mode in Apply Image?
What I have done in Photoshop, to be clearer :
1. one image ("background image"), duplicated it ("copy1") and set the blending mode ot linear light (for example). I get the result 1.
2. I selected "background image" and applied it in linear light (for this example), with Apply Image, to the "copy1" image. Result is different.
I've got a vector image which I need to make look like it is on the front of a beer glass. (Raised glass effect which I plan to do in bevel and emboss)
My problem is, I want the vector image to look as if it is really on the glass, so I need it to curve with the pint glass on the bulbous lip that goes around near the top, Any idea how I can get PhotoShop to simulate this effect?
You have an image of a wooden table, but would like the table to be a bit redder. So you would select the table and use a "blend with color" tool that would work like a bucket, but instead mix the default color of the table(or the selection) with the color you pick.So you pick red and... You got yourself the same table only instead of it being wood-brown, its reddish wood-brown.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am having issues with the 3D Extrude & Bevel Effect. Lines appear at each blending step, and there are missing sections that move around the graphic based on rotation. I did reduce the blending steps to keep them small enough for everyone to quickly view them, but the problem happens regardless. The outline view is below to show the actual build of the vectors.
I uploaded the files so they could be viewed as a PDF, which is how I prefer to export my images; please follow the links. uRL....
I recently upped my opinion of Illustrator and was really impressed with how I could change the appearance in the layers panel.
Now unable to find it. Using a mac and CS5.5 when selecting drop down button it is not there any more. Layer options only gives silly basic options like the name of the layer etc. I just don't know what's happened.
Created a brushed metal effect and unable to save as graphic style. This layers blending options was excellent and I can't really use much of the program without it.
Applying an effect, such as a blur, to a blend seems to disable the "Smooth Color" option. I can use "Specified Steps" or "Specified Distance" to correct the look of the blend, but I am just curious as to why this happens with "Smooth Color."
View 1 Replies View RelatedI would like to know, whether is it possible to make soft blends between all objects of the person in the art I am creating. The problem is, that I want to make very smooth transition between all paths(brush strokes) in the file. I tried the blend tool, but it didn´t work good for this purose. Then I tried to blur or feather all objects, but the result wasn´t good as well. Opacity masks would be too complicated for all those strokes. Is it possible to make this work for all brush paths in the file?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm working in CS3 and was trying out different tutorials on how to create realistic water drops and bubbles, such as
[URL]
but when I fill a shape with a gradient and change the blend mode to screen, the entire object goes white (I did put a darker shape as a background behind the gradient so that it would show)
Did Adobe do something to Illustrator CC that the layers with the same object colors are no longer blending. No matter what blend mode I apply the object never blends with the object with the same color behind it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I blend layers using multiply, and lower the opacity of the top layer (such as to compensate for too much flash), photoshop puts all these vertical lines on the image. The only time they are not visible is when opacity is set to 0% or 100% for the top layer.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to blend two similar paths. Both paths have dashed lines as strokes, and both dashed lines go from big to small dot, in decreasing direction. I want to blend both paths, so the blend goes from big to small, in BOTH directions. The ideal ending image would show the biggest dot at the top left corner, and the smallest, at the down right corner (the final project involves two spirals, but for the sake of simplicity, I attach two straight lines).
I try to blend them, and the blend only goes in one direction, as seen in the attached samples (in the sample, it goes from top to bottom, but it doesn't go from left to right). It seems that Illustrator takes only the first dot size, and applies it as if all the path has the same dot size.
How to set my eyedropper tool so that it picks up the result from several layers objects with transparency or different blending modes.
