Photoshop :: Blending An Image With A Backround
Apr 25, 2004
I'm making a signature for another forum and this forum has interchangable backround colors so I was wondering how I could make my convex image blend in with whatever backround its put against.

I was currently in a game (im only 16 >.<) and i noticed someone put a spray on the wall of a character in this game. I am fairly new to photoshop but I use it enough at home and in my votech school to know a bit of it, the problem is The character had no backround. When I try to make an image like this when I save it, it comes out with a white backround. How do you cut an image so when you open it there is just that image no backround behind it?

I'm trying to creat a simple layer mask and no matter what I do, the image has a white backround not a transparent backround. Here is what I'm doing.
open my image
create a layer
using the lasso, I cut out the image
select "add layer mask"
clean up image
save as aTIFF file
The backround looks transparent then but when I bring it in to Final Cut
Pro, it has a whit backround.
What makes this all the more frustratinf is that I've done it MANY times
with no problems, but now for some reason I'm getting that white backround.
I don't think it is a FCP thing. I think I have changed some setting in Photoshop
but I can't figure out which one.

Got started with doing some picture editing and now I have this solid black image around all images. What is this area called? Backround, mask, border, window color, frame, pane, what? And how do I get rid of it so I can have white or light grey. It is hard to work with this black backround. I will see if I can attach the Print Screen for this issue.
I guess I can't add the attachment.

Wanted to ask what the best method would be to smooth the (outer) seam on the attached image. I added the outer band for a bleed and want to blend the seam (or maybe there is a better way to create a bleed on this).

Anytime I try to cutout a piece of an image and paste it into another image, the final result always turns out bad. It looks exactly like what it is...a cutout pasted onto another image.
Are there any good tips or tutorials on what to do to an image cutout to make it blend more seamlessly into another image?

Am I missing something with the apply image command? Couldn't I perform the exact same task just by blending individual layers or images?

I have a high-res image of a model of a ship that I'm looking to put on top of a seascape image. The pictures below are a lot smaller and cropped then actual.
Here is a crop of the image of the ship, luckily it's on a plain background and nothing more complicated: After much trial and error, Fluid Mask did a decent job and I'm on the fence about saying useable:
However, this is a thought I had when scrolling through blending modes on the ship's layer. Here it is on Multiply:
Obviously it's too dark, but in terms of the edges on the small details like the ropes, it looks great. I got thinking about somehow automating Photoshop to recognize wherever a pixel is different from the background layer below it, Photoshop would be able to tell where the image is and where the background is, since Multiply removes any white but leaves other colors (albeit darker).
I don't know how this would be done if it's possible at all, I'm guessing with some sort of code made into a plugin or something.

I am trying to understand the difference between apply image and blending modes as I realize my grasp of it is weak.
Why blending the duplicate of an image with the original, with a given blending mode, does not give the same result as, Applying the duplicate of an image to the original with the same given blending mode in Apply Image?
What I have done in Photoshop, to be clearer :
1. one image ("background image"), duplicated it ("copy1") and set the blending mode ot linear light (for example). I get the result 1.
2. I selected "background image" and applied it in linear light (for this example), with Apply Image, to the "copy1" image. Result is different.

I've got a vector image which I need to make look like it is on the front of a beer glass. (Raised glass effect which I plan to do in bevel and emboss)
My problem is, I want the vector image to look as if it is really on the glass, so I need it to curve with the pint glass on the bulbous lip that goes around near the top, Any idea how I can get PhotoShop to simulate this effect?

When I blend layers using multiply, and lower the opacity of the top layer (such as to compensate for too much flash), photoshop puts all these vertical lines on the image. The only time they are not visible is when opacity is set to 0% or 100% for the top layer.

You have an image of a wooden table, but would like the table to be a bit redder. So you would select the table and use a "blend with color" tool that would work like a bucket, but instead mix the default color of the table(or the selection) with the color you pick.So you pick red and... You got yourself the same table only instead of it being wood-brown, its reddish wood-brown.

I'm working on this illustration and can't figure out how to do what I'm thinking. Looking at the attached image, the two colors signify the shallow outer edge of the pond and the darker part is the deep section. What would be the best way to blend them together? If the pond was round or at least square I could use a gradient, but that doesn't work in this case (at least using my limited knowledge). I'm using PS7 by the way.

I'm trying to blend a skin tone. Basically I have this picture of me and my friend, but somehow the film or something got screwed up and threw this white smudge/ color deformation on my face. I want to take it out and blend my skin color over it. I guess it would be just like replacing a bird in the sky, with the sky... if that makes sense. Im sure its easy, im just half way retarded. I tried searching the forum first and I tried some of the tips, but for some reason, I just cant get it to work.

I recently downloaded the trial version of Photoshop Cs5. I haven't had many problems and I like it a lot except for ONE thing! I cannot figure out how to blend layers! When I upload my first layer (my image) it shows in the layers palette. But when I upload my second layer (texture) it not only jumps on top of my first layer in the layers palette, but it ALSO jumps on top of my first layer (the image) in the work area. I have watched a lot of the Photoshop tutorials and I've noticed that when they upload their second layer it shows SEPARATELY from the first image in the work area.
They then click on the second layer and drag it over onto the first layer and then they are ready to start working on blending. For the fact that my second layer jumps on top of my first layer in the work area like it does, I am not able to follow along with the tutorials! I have also tried and tried to figure out how to manage to blend by trying lots of techniques and options in the program but nothing will work.
I use textures and depend on blending A LOT with my editing so this has been very discouraging! I have used other editing programs and usually with them, after you duplicate your first layer and then upload another you are able to blend with no problem. So I do not understand this at all! You can even blend with no problem by duplicating your first layer in Photoshop Elements 10.

I need to make a picture of a person's face blend seamlessly into the sky. The below shows you what I mean. At the moment the Kenyan Warrior's face has harsh edges and doesn't look properly blended in. My very limited Photoshop ability had me placing an inner glow and bevel and gloss to get something close to what I want, however I suspect the real tool I need for this is completely unknown to me!

I have Photoshop CS6, and I just got a Windows 8 computer a couple days ago. I just now have realized that the Screen and Linear Dodge (Add) blending modes are not working at all. They have no effect on my layers. I know that the Overlay blending mode works... I haven't tested all of them.
I understand that others are having problems with Photoshop and Windows 8. Is this a related problem, or is it unrelated and is it something that needs to somehow be fixed?

We just upgraded at work to CS6 and overlay blending isn't working like it did in CS5.
Overlay used to multiply values below 50% and add screen above 50% regardless of what the layer underneath looked like. I'm not sure what's going on now.
Am I the only one seeing this? Is there a setting somewhere to get it back to working the way it was? I haven't seen any documentation on the change and a search of the support shows no one else complaining about the same issue. But me and my coworkers are all seeing the same issue.

how blend the various photos/images. I bought one to see if I could figure it out. There are 2 layers, each with an image. They seem to overlay the images, and the bottom image seems to have a transparency to it, but the opacity is still 100. How can I get 2 images to blend cleanly into one another?
