I recently upped my opinion of Illustrator and was really impressed with how I could change the appearance in the layers panel.
Â
Now unable to find it. Using a mac and CS5.5 when selecting drop down button it is not there any more. Layer options only gives silly basic options like the name of the layer etc. I just don't know what's happened.
Â
Created a brushed metal effect and unable to save as graphic style. This layers blending options was excellent and I can't really use much of the program without it.
I am having a problem in CS6 Photoshop where I never experienced this in CS3-5. Â I am designing a website and when I apply a drop shadow or inner shadow to a layer through layer style/blending options in the layers tab. It applys the same angle etc.. to all the other layers I have done styles too... Â I will have 5 + layers done with styles and I will make a new layer and give it a shape, open up blending options and when I do a drop shadow and change the angle I literally can see everything on my layout change angles also when I move it around for just ONE layers style... What on earth is going on? This makes it impossible to make unique designs unless I keep flattening my PSD and transfering stuff over which destroys workflow.
When applying blending options like lets say a drop shadow, if i apply it to a layer and modify lets say the direction of the shadow it applies it to every layer with a drop shadow...same with bevels. Is there any way to prevent this?
how to apply the effects of blending options to a selection rather than an entire layer? My problem is that I have the template for the object I'm designing set up, and I'm trying to set up different textures and effects to different faces. Now, I try to duplicate the different faces on different layers and apply the blending options individually, and that's fine, but the effects are destroyed when I try to merge or flatten the image.
In PHotoshop CC, my blending options are not working at all. A window comes up with the message "Could not complete your reequest because of a program error. "
I was wondering if it is possible to apply blending options, such as lighten, to multiple layers faster than clicked each individual layer and setting the blending options for each one. Specifically, I am have a whole bunch of pcitures, I loaded the files into a stack and want to just make them all lightened. Can anyone help me?
I've selected the right place for the question. I'm working on a vector image and feel myself confused about layer blending options. When I resize the file, the Blending settings for layers get disturb causing poor effects.
Running a script to open up files and convert to another type. When it gets to a TIFF type file a dialog window titled 'TIFF Import Options' is opening. This windows has an Options column that contains two radio selections for 'Convert Layers to Objects' and 'Flatten Layers to a Single Image'. How would I open the file with the 'flatten layers to a single image' set?
AI CS6 Layers panel missing labels when you deselect print in the layer options. Is this a bug? I noticed this on a furnished file at work on a MacPro and had a hard time working the file because all of the labels were missing.
I stumbled on the cause when I turned on the Print Layer and all the labels came back. To be sure it was not computer related, I made a file on my AI CS6 version 16.1.0 with the same result. See screen shot. Â MacBook Pro, OSX 10.6.8, 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3.
I'm trying to make some recordings/actions, which I've done alot before, but I can't get all of my blending options to record. Specifically the curves to my bevel & emboss and my contour....after playing the action, it will apply the DEFAULT bevel and won't remember any of my gloss contour settings.Â
I'm trying to make these actions universal, however when I select a layer to modify, it records the name of the layer I click on...so if i use the recording later on a different file and it doesn't have that same layer name, then the action won't work...Â
I have been doing some graphic design in Photoshop CS6 Extended and since Friday it won't let me use the Adjustments that contain all the blending options. Keeps coming up with the message Program Error. I have updated EVERYTHING and run through my Mac with Apple support so it has to be something to do with Photoshop.Â
In CSS 3, I'm accustomed to being able to set multiple inset box-shadow values so that I can set four (or even more) inner shadows to a rectangular shape. In Photoshop, I can only set one inner shadow. I'm already using stroke for the border, and inner glow doesn't provide me the granular control I want for setting a different inner shadow color on each of the four sides of a rectangle.Â
In other words, imagine a rectanglular shape with a 1px border and four 1px inner borders, each of different colors.
In PS CS4 In my layers palette, I used to be able to have an effect (ex. drop shadow) on a layer & drag that effect onto another layer so the layers would have the exact same effect. In CS4 when I drag an effect, I lose that effect from that layer & it is put on the layer I dragged it to only. It will not let me copy it anymore. Is there some key I should be holding down now? I am wondering what else I will be running into with CS4. Maybe that wizard will pop out & yell at me.
How to Apply adjustment layers to multiple layers that have different blending modes and keep the colors the same as the adjustment done?  I work in Animation painting Backgrounds. My files are sometimes upwards to 200+ layers.I will use adjustment layers to quickly balance colours and constrast on top of those many many layers.  The only way that I know of how to apply adjustment layers it to every single layer ( by applying I mean I need to get rid of the adjustment layers because we cant use them in production but i need the new colours be applied to all layers underneath ) in a psd is to manually do it By duplicating the adjusment layer 200+ times and then merging each layer to one of those adjustment layers so that that layer can take the adjustment layers effect permanently.  The issue is that Within Those 200 layers I have some layers set to Multiply or OVERLAY.   IT obviously wont apply the adjustment layer properly to those layers because those layer blend mode affect the layers under them. The colour wont be the same anymore in the spots that had the multiply blended mode.

I have 2 adjustment layers up top. I need to get rid of them by applying them to each layer! I cannot merge any of the layers. We need all those layers for production.I can apply the adjustment layers manually and this works GREAT for all Layers set to normal. THey take on the colour change just FINE.  However, The issue is that layer 6 and layer 4 are both set to mutiply and this screws up the colour once i apply the adjustment layers to each layer manually...  How can i apply my adjustment layers to a file like this with some layers being set to multiply while keeping the layers exactly the same configuration and The new colour taking effect exactly how i looks before i apply the adjustment layers? Now the simple solution is to merge the multiply layers to the layer that it affects HOWEVER I NEED those multiply layers to be separate!Â
This problem started today when i tryed to throw a drop shadow on a layer. in RGB mode. "Program Error," appeared and would not let me access any Blending options. Although, in cmyk mode it works perfectly fine.
So I have created some text in Photoshop on top of a dark grunge type background, using various blending options. Now I want to change the background of the image, but I want the text to retain its look. Is there some way to freeze the text layer and its blending options so that I can change the background while keeping the text's look the same? Â Here is the Photoshop file:Â

I am working on a project in which I am trying to a achieve a superhero movie post type effect for tha background. I have a picture of building and a 100% opacity layer entirely painted the colour c5322c. The trouble is when I apply blending options, the red colour on the picture is no longer c5332c. It is absolutely necessary that I have the colour c5322c. Is there any way I can end up with the colour c5322c after using the blending options multiply, linear burn, overlay and vivid light? In other words, what colour do I have to start with on my other layer to achieve a product that has the colour c5322c? If the final result doesn't depend on the background picture (aka the building pictures), is there some sort of formula I can use or play around with the colours and blending options?
I rarely (never) use the default color or stroke size of my blending options so I always have to go through the process of changing those with every layer. There's got to be a better way. I would like to have my blending options default to what I use most so I could simply click stroke and move on.
How do you change/save the default blending options?
I can't seem to master this, it's simple in Indesign, but in Photoshop when I draw a line shape, and then go to stroke / drop shadow it in the layers blending options, it strokes a long rectangle, not a line. I'm doing this to mark off a road path on a map.
I keep receiving the error "Could not complete your request because of a program error" when trying to access Blending Options for a custom graphic or font. It's completely inaccessible. It used to work just fine. Â The only other time I've seen this error is when running an action. For some reason, even though the preview button is checked my blending options for one file aren't showing the changes to my image as I make them. In addition, when I exit the blending options screen, the options I've chosen are automatically greyed out--not visible.
I recently noticed that Channels-settings in both Group Properties and Blending Options are lost when changing a file from 8bit to 16bit and vice versa.
I recently downloaded the trial version of Photoshop Cs5. I haven't had many problems and I like it a lot except for ONE thing! I cannot figure out how to blend layers! When I upload my first layer (my image) it shows in the layers palette. But when I upload my second layer (texture) it not only jumps on top of my first layer in the layers palette, but it ALSO jumps on top of my first layer (the image) in the work area. I have watched a lot of the Photoshop tutorials and I've noticed that when they upload their second layer it shows SEPARATELY from the first image in the work area.Â
They then click on the second layer and drag it over onto the first layer and then they are ready to start working on blending. For the fact that my second layer jumps on top of my first layer in the work area like it does, I am not able to follow along with the tutorials! I have also tried and tried to figure out how to manage to blend by trying lots of techniques and options in the program but nothing will work.Â
I use textures and depend on blending A LOT with my editing so this has been very discouraging! I have used other editing programs and usually with them, after you duplicate your first layer and then upload another you are able to blend with no problem. So I do not understand this at all! You can even blend with no problem by duplicating your first layer in Photoshop Elements 10.
I am just trying something out on Photoshop and for some reason am not getting the expected result. I have added a new blank layer to an image and have changed the mode to Color. Now I have changed my brush size and colour but when I start to paint my new colour onto the layer I dont see the brush stokes on the background image... If I just very the new layer I can see the strokes but they are not showing up on the background.
I've got two background color swatches that I've inserted into PS file (in different layers). I'm simulating a night sky at dusk. One color is black with stars, the other is pinkish. I'd like to do a gradient where the sky goes from black at the top to pinkish at the bottom.
Is the best way to tackle this by blending a layer or adding a fill and adjustment layer? I've been experimenting with the gradient tool, but don't have the control I want as far as where the color transitions from black to pink.
I have multiple exposures of the same photo that I'd like to combine into one image showing the specific details of all. I've been messing around with layer modes and opacity sliders but can't quite get exactly what I want.
These are a a couple of the images I'm trying to combine:
What I'd like the final image to show is the pronounced shadow behind the railing in the first exposure and the lit up details of the hallway in the lower left corner of the second exposure, if there's a way to achieve this without having to draw layer masks and such.
