Illustrator :: How To Make Document Display Same Physical Size As Mobile Screen
Oct 16, 2012
I'm designing some screens for an retina display iPad and I just want the illustrator document on my 27" thunderbold monitor (at 109 ppi) to have the same physical dimensions as the physical iPad screen (7.75" x 5.81"). Maybe its so obvious that no one talks about how to do it. I do feel a little embarassed that I haven't figured this out.
Regardless of whenther I enter the doucment dimensions in inches or in pixels the resulting document is never the same pysicial size as the iPad's screen. And since Illustrator deals in vectors it doesn't have any notion of PPI that I can use to bring inches and pixels into alignement so that what I see on my monitor is the same physical size as what's in the iPad.
All i want is the AI document displayed on my monitor to be the exact same size as my iPad's screen.
how do i match on screen document size to view print size? when i create a new document and put in its dimensions when i press view print size it appears alot smaller on screen
is there a function in photoshop cs3 that will reduce the file size of a photo without affecting the physical size of it, i know macromedia fireworks can but thats no help to me unfortunately...
After moving a page in my document the master page elements no longer display on screen or in print. If I move the page to a different location in the document the master displays but if it is in the specific position that it needs to be it will not display. The document has multiple Masters and others do work on the page but the one that I need will not. I've tried deleting the page and adding a new one and that does not fix the problem. I've checked and "Hide Master Items" is not checked. The page in question is in position 48 with F-Master applied. If I move it to position 49 it works, 50, it works, 51, or any other it works. If I apply a different master to the page, it works. If I delete the page, add a new page and apply F-Master it still does not work. The only page that this problem is happening on is page 48.
I bought a new iMAC, a 21.5", 2.7 GHz one with 12 GBytes RAM. My intuos 4, when using Photoshop CS6, works on and off. I mean, when I am painting with the finger tool for instance, and more often than not, I try to make the strokes but the damn finger brush cursor won't move on the screen until a couple of seconds had passed.
In other words, there's a very annoying delay between the physical stroke on the tablet and the brush moving on the screen, it's not simultaneous as it ought to be. And I have installed the latest driver of Wacom for this model!!! This never happened before with the older iMAC, 2.4 GHz and 4 GBytes RAM. I mean, it should work even better.
lately I've been started working on Illustrator, since I've always loved the vector pen tool in Photoshop, but I've notice something...
let's say I want to work on an A4 page. I start a new PRINT document, and set the A4 size at 300 DPI. If I do that on Photoshop, I'll get a huge white page that at 100% goes way out my screen, but if I start a document with the same size in Illustrator, I get a page that's smaller than my screen (at 100%).
I guess it's normal because those programs might work in different ways, but I'm concerned about it because this way, in Illustrator a 1pt size brush will always be bigger than in Photoshop.
When I go to create a new Document in Illustrator I'll select a default document type like : Mobile and Devices. Then I go down to the different sizes and bam. The problem. I can't pick a default size that "I" want to use. Yes there are preset sizes but none of them are the ones I want to use. Ok there has to be a text file or something that lets me edit/add new document sizes to illustrator. It shouldn't be this hard. I don't own CS6. I'm on an older version of Illustrator right now. I don't know if you guys fixed this in CS6. But it should be like photoshop or indesign. Why it's different baffles me.
This is a JDI if there ever is one. Make all presets in all programs the same (editing wise) and if possible make a preset manager that allows for one preset to be added or edited and all apps see these presets.
I've currently undertaken a project for truck design. They have requested for the final design to be 10% of the final size at 300 dpi and they will be using a large format printer, so no panel printing.
Here's the problem- even at 10% it is too large for the document restrictions.
The 24 ton truck at 10% of the final size is 1,278 meters by 228 meters.
All my Adobe programs won't even let me touch this final size, they limit me completely.
How do I create a final output size of 1,278 meters with the preset limitations and keeping a final output of 300 dpi?
When I do double click to open a file of Illustrator, the application starts with a little interface and then a dialog box that says "Not enough space for the window, increase the size of the document and try again" appears.
I need setting up the size of a new document. It will not allow me to choose a (Custom) size only the presets and there is not one there for a business card.
Apparently, in the CS3 is impossible to do any scripting and using any actions. Can it be done using plugins sdk, without creating a new document? I tried using the functions SetPageSetup and SetCropBox but no effect
Each time I open a new image in ACR and then open image the editing screen reverts to QUICK mode and a smaller screen size. I then have to click to change it to EXPERT mode and then click to make it full screen. I never had this problem with PSE 10.
(I am bringing RAW images in from outside and not via Organiser.)
When I choose "New Document" in Illustrator CS4 and try to change the document size the "custom" option isn´t available. The only available options are standar sizes.
Why is the pixel ratio of a project in illustrator different than that of the same pixel ratio of a project in Photoshop? Example: A project can in Illustrator can have an artboard of 950px X 950px and be 12in and in Photoshop that same pixel ratio will be 4 3/4in.
Whenever I maximize a document in Illu. CS6 it overrides the application menu! It simply covers my whole screen making it impossible to reach my menues unless i drag the documents corners to make it smaller or click the minimize icon.
I am trying to create a document size 6040mm x 350mm (for a sticker to run along the front of an eatery counter) but Illustrator keeps saying that it exceeds the canvas size. is there a way to increase the maximum canvas size or will I just need to design the document in two halves?
I know in the brush options panel you can enter a brush size in millimetres, but is there any way to permantly make it display the size in mm? I need to know how thick some lines are in mm, and even after going to options and changing all diplay uints to mm, it still shows up as pts.
I've attached a picture of exactly what I'm referring to below. (The "Size" field currently showing "15 pt". I need that area to display mm).
I work at a university and have logos shared with me from other designers, most of which are working on Macs and I'm working on a PC. When I open the logo and select all, the size displayed is 227.5417 inches x 227.5417 inches. The last one I received, the actual size of the logo was 2 inches x 1.75 inches. How do I get Illustrator to display the actual size of the logo?
How can I increase the display size of anchor points? i.e. the vertices.? they are too small to see clearly. i am used to vertice point size of coreldraw.
I made a drawing by hand, now I want to use it in a laser machine... I need hairlines (in dutch haarlijnen) 0,5 thick and sharp? How do i transform this picture into a sharp document?
I create the designs on an art board that matches the screen size of whatever device I'm designing for, for instance 320x480px. The problem comes when I want to read the font sizes used in the design in order to apply them in the actual mobile app. Illustrator seems to use a strict 1px = 1pt rule. That means a 12pt font in Illustrator is always 12 pixels. This is however not true on the mobile device, which uses some other ratio. This means I have to "guess" the font sizes, trial-and-error style, which is ridiculous.
I've tried downsizing the art board, to something like 240x360 px, and then the font sizes do better represent those on the mobile device, but then all the graphics does not. So that's a no go.
Is there any way I can define in Illustrator the ratio between pixels and points? It seems Illustrator only supports a default 1 pixel = 1 point setting? (In Photoshop, for instance, this is not a problem as you can set the intended physical size of the document independently from the pixel grid. Any way to do this in Illustrator? Does Illustrator simply assume pixels is a physical unit, like inches and points?
I am unable to save .pdf versions of color separations. I followed the tutorials (changed all colors to cmyk or spot colors, selected the printer adobe post script, changed the output to Separations (host-based), desected the colors I didn't want on the separations), but something goes wrong when I save. When I click save, I am given no option to save the separation as a .pdf. The program seems to be unable to save the separation as any sort of readable file. In the drop down box where it should provide a .pdf option, it merely says "All Files." If I save my separation using this option, then Illustrator creates a file unreadable by Acrobat Reader.
I'm using A Mac OS 10.6.8, and Illustrator CS5. I do garment screen printing. In my designs I use a gradient, which needs to have the halftone dots controlled, and a certain size, to expose properly on my screens to then print. I can't seem to figure out how to adjust the frequency or LPI, and the angle so that they work. It still prints out as a seen on screen
I’m a PS user new to Illustrator (CS6). In PS, using the bracket keys [] to increase/decrease brush point size will simultaneously update the data displayed in the tool panel at the top.
While I can use the bracket keys in Illustrator to change the appearance of the brush stroke, it is not being updated in the tool panel input or in the stroke window…so I can essentially have (2) 3 pt strokes created with the same brush that don’t visually match but whose display properties DO match. Because I will be doing lots of editing I certainly don’t want to work this way.
