Illustrator :: Files Size And Instances Of Same Embedded Image?
Nov 27, 2013My question is, isn’t Illustrator supposed to use and save just one instance of an embedded image regardless of how many times it i used in an document?
A senario: If I import and embed an image and I save the document I get a pretty small files size. But when I copy this image internally in the document, say that I copy the image 10 times, I get ten times the file size. Is it supposed to do that? Why doesn't it just save the image one time?

I’m wondering how the point size/text size assigned at particular annotation scale can be modified.
For example, in the attached screenshot, the point size assigned at the annotation scale of 1/1000 is big and I wanted to make it a bit smaller at that scale.

Oct 15, 2012Is it possible to find out how bright is an color? I need to find the darkest color in document's swatches. My solution would be to convert (script internally, without actually making any changes in document) swatches to grayscale, compare them and pick the darkest. But how to convert swatch defined in undefined mode (they might be in lab or cmyk) to grayscale?
I found in 'js scriping reference' a method "convertSampleColor", but I have no idea how to use it. Any examples?

Illustrator :: How To Edit New Document Size Presets
Jul 3, 2012When I go to create a new Document in Illustrator I'll select a default document type like : Mobile and Devices. Then I go down to the different sizes and bam. The problem. I can't pick a default size that "I" want to use. Yes there are preset sizes but none of them are the ones I want to use. Ok there has to be a text file or something that lets me edit/add new document sizes to illustrator. It shouldn't be this hard. I don't own CS6. I'm on an older version of Illustrator right now. I don't know if you guys fixed this in CS6. But it should be like photoshop or indesign. Why it's different baffles me.
This is a JDI if there ever is one. Make all presets in all programs the same (editing wise) and if possible make a preset manager that allows for one preset to be added or edited and all apps see these presets.

Sep 10, 2012I've currently undertaken a project for truck design. They have requested for the final design to be 10% of the final size at 300 dpi and they will be using a large format printer, so no panel printing.
Here's the problem- even at 10% it is too large for the document restrictions.
The 24 ton truck at 10% of the final size is 1,278 meters by 228 meters.
All my Adobe programs won't even let me touch this final size, they limit me completely.
How do I create a final output size of 1,278 meters with the preset limitations and keeping a final output of 300 dpi?

Oct 16, 2012I'm designing some screens for an retina display iPad and I just want the illustrator document on my 27" thunderbold monitor (at 109 ppi) to have the same physical dimensions as the physical iPad screen (7.75" x 5.81"). Maybe its so obvious that no one talks about how to do it. I do feel a little embarassed that I haven't figured this out.
Regardless of whenther I enter the doucment dimensions in inches or in pixels the resulting document is never the same pysicial size as the iPad's screen. And since Illustrator deals in vectors it doesn't have any notion of PPI that I can use to bring inches and pixels into alignement so that what I see on my monitor is the same physical size as what's in the iPad.
All i want is the AI document displayed on my monitor to be the exact same size as my iPad's screen.

May 23, 2011I have added 9pt vector text in multiple places of an image. Now I realize it should have been 8pt. I can add new text as 8pt but cant figure out how to change the point size of vector text that is already on the image. If I select a vector text object and then change the point size on the "Size" drop down menu at the top nothing happens. If I right click the vector object and select Edit Text I can change the actual text but not the font or its size. If I right-click the vector object and select Properties I can change stroke, fill, line style etc but this window does not include font or size. How do I change the font and point size for existing vector text objects?

Jul 23, 2013The goal is to copy a text object from one illustrator(CS6) document to another maintaining live type and having a graphic style applied from the appearance panel. When an effect like an arch is applied it is converting the text to outlines during the copy and paste, however a straight fill will not. The type of font (TrueType, OpenType, Postscript) does not seem to affect the problem.
Alternatively I have been able to take the desired appearance, create a graphic style from it, apply that to a path and transfer the graphic style to the new document via copy/paste, then apply it to live type on the new document. Obviously this is not ideal.

Oct 8, 2013I have an Adobe Illustrator CS6 document with body copy set using 6.5 pt. Helvetica Neue LT Std. - Bold Condensed & Light Condensed.
After saving the file as a PDF in Illustrator using the [Smallest File Size] setting, closing the file, and opening the newly saved PDF in Illustrator - the 6.5 pt. text is now 5.53 pt. with a vertical scaling of 117.65%.
This PDF is for client review purposes - on screen or laser print - not for reproduction. We try to keep the file size as small as possible to make downloading and e-mail attachments manageable.
In this case, my client is opening the PDF in Illustrator to double-check the text point sizes for legal & regulatory purposes.
If I save the same Illustrator file as a PDF using other settings like [High Quality Print], the text size is unchanged.
I was able to repeat the issue using Helvetica LT Std in place of Helvetica Neue LT Std.

Feb 27, 2014My work involves importing in new documents and formating them correctly. We have a specific font style that is different than the original font. Illustrator cannot read those fonts, so it defaults to Myriad Pro in the original text size. Since it is changing it from Myriad Pro to Arial, I don't really have a problem with the global change that this would have.
I already have the [Character Styles] options set up for a template, but this does not work on new documents.
We are on Windows 7 with CS6.

Jun 28, 2012Is there a way to access text boxes in an existing document and replace them with a new value taken from an excel table? I've been able to create new documents from scratch and populate them with excel data, but formating these new documents to look like those we already made is proving more difficult than I thought using just Javascript.
Ideally I'd be able specific an index for each text box and replace them in order as i itterate through the excel(or CSV) document.
I already have a way to pull from the table, another question asked here, but can't figure out the object model to put the new info in a specific place.
Below is what I came up with to create a very rough looking document from scratch:

AutoCad 2D :: Text 2 MText - Multiple Instances
Oct 29, 2012I discovered the TXT2MTXT command and how wonderful it is, but there is one thing missing. Is it possible to change multiple texts, but separately WITHOUT having to re-issue the command? I've experimented with some of the in command options, but unless I'm missing something, nothing seems to work.
Preferably, I would like it to work like the FILLET -> Multiple command, so I could select a group of texts, convert them then select another group etc, but the 'multiple' option in TXT2MTXT does not work in such a way.
