Illustrator :: Screen Printing And Controlling Size Of Dot Pattern In Gradient Halftones

Feb 22, 2013

I'm using A Mac OS 10.6.8, and Illustrator CS5. I do garment screen printing. In my designs I use a gradient, which needs to have the halftone dots controlled, and a certain size, to expose properly on my screens to then print. I can't seem to figure out how to adjust the frequency or LPI, and the angle so that they work. It still prints out as a seen on screen

Photoshop :: Screen Printing A Gradient

What is the best way to screen print a gradient.

The shirt is 2 colours. Orange and red.

Would you print the whole orange and then do the red separation as a half tone?

Photoshop :: Gradient Half Tone For Screen Printing

Sep 27, 2013

I am making an image to be screen printed. In the background theres a moon in a very dark sky. The moon is going to be white, with a greenish gradient glow (circle shaped) around it, fading into darkness in the rest of the sky. I have the gradient ready but I can't figure out what to do about making it a half tone so I can screen print it.

I suppose the specifics of my image aren't crucial. What I need to know is how to make a coloured half tone where it's essentially two colours on two separate layers that blend into each other. Should it be two half tone layers? Or is it better to have ONE of the two colours a half tone, while the other sits below and together they create the illusion of blending?

CorelDRAW X4 :: Creating Gradient To Print Halftones With RIP Software

Nov 29, 2011

I've been using Corel X4 extensively for the last year to create screenprint designs for the company I now work for.  Although some of my designs are extremely complex, they are straight 1-5 colors, which I seperate for printing myself.

My boss has purchased RIP software which I have a vague knowledge of using, however, I have no clue how to actually create the design that would need a halftone print and therefore, have never used the expensive RIP software to print with.

CorelDRAW X5 :: Printing Halftones With Postscript Printer

Apr 5, 2013

I have a new HP Laserjet M712 B&W printer to replace my aging HP 5000 printer.  I'm using X3 & X5 and have installed the HP Universal Postscript driver.  The printer is Postscript 3 emulation capable.  I have all the settings in the print dialog of Corel the same as the settings from my HP5000 printer, but the new printer fails to print halftones or "dots".  The halftone areas are still printing as a solid although I have my screen frequency at 45lpi. Is this a Corel issue or is it a Windows 7 problem, or some kind of user error.

Revit :: Actual Printing Size On The Screen?

Oct 16, 2012

Actual printing size on the screen,

I’m wondering if there is a tool on the Revit that enables displaying the actual printing size on the screen. This feature is quite useful as we can see exactly how the drawing will precisely looks like on the paper.

For example, if I need to print with a scale of 1:200, then is there a tool that displays the actual size on the screen. Other software, like ArcGIS, has this feature.

Software: AutoCAD 2014, AutoCAD C3D, AutoCAD M3D, Revit
Windows 7 (Ultimate 64 bits),
Firefox 20.0,

Illustrator :: Filling Text Art With Gradient Or Pattern

Oct 4, 2012

I'm trying to fill some existing arts (path, text, compound) with a just created gradient or a pattern loaded in the swatch..To achieve that I'm trying to change the path style:

GetPathStyle (myArt, &pathArtStyle);
     pathArtStyle.strokePaint = false;
     pathArtStyle.fillPaint = true;
     pathArtStyle.fill.color.kind = kGradient;
     pathArtStyle.fill.color.c.b.gradient = myGradient;
SetPathStyle (myArt, &pathArtStyle);

This works for kPathArt,but nothing happens for kTextFrameArt or kCompoundPathArt.

I also tried to program the procedure "How to Fill Text with a Pattern or Gradient in Adobe Illustrator" described for illustrator UI, w/o success.I have similar problem when trying to create a clipping using SetGroupClipped() while the clipping path is a text or compound. No clipping is done.

Illustrator :: Why Gradient Transparency Not Printing Right

Mar 25, 2013

When printing a vector illustration in PDF format, my gradients that fade to 0% over a surface aren't coming out right. The gradient appears like a box with a hard edge, rather than fading away. It looks like this when viewing the file , but when printed I am getting this . (don't mind the color, it is a bad quality photo)

Illustrator :: Same Print Size / Same DPI But Different Size On Screen?

Jul 10, 2012

lately I've been started working on Illustrator, since I've always loved the vector pen tool in Photoshop, but I've notice something...

let's say I want to work on an A4 page. I start a new PRINT document, and set the A4 size at 300 DPI. If I do that on Photoshop, I'll get a huge white page that at 100% goes way out my screen, but if I start a document with the same size in Illustrator, I get a page that's smaller than my screen (at 100%).

I guess it's normal because those programs might work in different ways, but I'm concerned about it because this way, in Illustrator a 1pt size brush will always be bigger than in Photoshop.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Circular Pattern With User Parameter Controlling Angle Of Notch

Oct 13, 2013

I am setting up a family of parts that consist of a round disc with a fixed OD and a circular pattern of notches cut into the OD. The notches must go to a certain depth from the center, so those parameters are set. My problem is that I need to control the amount of material left between the notches, along the OD, after the pattern is done. Given the fixed parameters of the major OD, minor OD (3.5" in this case) and number of notches, the only way to control the amount of material between notches is to change the angle. When I set up the sketch to do the notches, I can only get a fully constrained sketch if I assign a specific angle  to the notch. I need to be able to set it up so that the angle of the notch varies so the end result is a specifc amount of material left after the circular patter is completed.

In the attached PDF, I show what I have done so far. In this case the OD of the part is 4" and the diameter of the notch at it's closest to the center is 3.5". So basically, I end up with a driven parameter of 0.443. If I assign this value the parameter of d14, I need to make it equal to a ratio of another parameter (let's call it d15) so that d14 = d15*2.. This can only be accomplished by changing the angle.

In my family, the major OD and minor OD remain the same, but the angle must change to retain a specific amount of material between the notches  when the number of notches is increased or decreased.

Is there an iLogic rule I can write to control this?

Illustrator :: Reset Gradient Size / Position In AI CC?

I'm not sure if I've missed a setting or gradients are behaving differently in AI CC.

After filling a shape with a gradient fill and then modifying it's angle/position/size with the Gradient Tool (G)... then going to create a new shape, I want to reset the gradient back to the default angle/position/size. Usually I'd just click/double-click on the gradient I was using in the Swatches panel and it would reset. However this isn't working anymore.

I was wondering if I've missed a setting to make this possible

Illustrator :: Difficulty In Separating Colors For Screen Printing

I don't have a postscript printer and would like to have everything prepared before I take artwork to a print shop to get screen positives printed.For some reason when I go Select > Same > Fill color (and either cut to a new layer or select inverse and delete on a duplicated layer) I'm not getting everything showing up. It looks like the document needs to be flattened or something, though I have tried that with no effect.

Illustrator :: Cannot Make Readable PDF Separation (Screen Printing)

I am unable to save .pdf versions of color separations. I followed the tutorials (changed all colors to cmyk or spot colors, selected the printer adobe post script, changed the output to Separations (host-based), desected the colors I didn't want on the separations), but something goes wrong when I save. When I click save, I am given no option to save the separation as a .pdf. The program seems to be unable to save the separation as any sort of readable file. In the drop down box where it should provide a .pdf option, it merely says "All Files." If I save my separation using this option, then Illustrator creates a file unreadable by Acrobat Reader.

Illustrator :: Colors From Screen To Customers Printer Are Printing Wrong

Nov 12, 2013

I run an online wedding invitation design business. I first create the digital files of the invitations in Adobe Illustrator CS5, then secondly I email the PDF file to my customers, and finally the customers are responsible for printing the invitations themselves. Some people print from a home computer, some have a local print shop print them (professional OR places like Staples and Office Max), and some upload the design to an online print service.

I use Adobe Illustrator CS5 and cmyk colors to create my file.

2 times this year I have run across a problem that I don't know how to fix. The customer says that when they print the PDF at home AND at a local print shop (Staples or otherwise), the colors are not right. Specifically, my Peach color was printing Brown for her, and my light Pink color was printing Tan for her.

The first file I sent her was a PDF that I created from Illustrator. I also imported the .ai file into my Photoshop Elements 5.0, and then saved it as a JPG and PSD. Those two printed the same results for her. She printed from home and from Staples. Both printed wrong.

I have made 250+ sales in the last 12 months, and this is only the second time it has happened.

Illustrator :: How To Open Work Points In Images For Screen Printing

Jun 15, 2012

(I use Macromedia Freehand MX), I just recently download the trial illustrator, and my question is to know how to open points in Illustrator images for screen printing in freehand using the Halftone in Illustrator I've tried but is not the same as the finish is different and of very poor quality here is a sample as freehand and illustrator as stated in:

Look at the difference of points:

As you can see in Illustrator can only do that from the menu: Effects / Pixelate / Color Halftone... , not sharp as seen in the picture above and therefore the image does not get to see very well, while in freehand if you can manipulate the points from large fine to a point, points also can be made round, linear or ellipse and therefore may work better for screenprints and other designs that open nesecitan points at home. What I'm interested to know if there is another way to work so that the image is sharp with the open items as well as in freehand.

This is really an Illy question directed to Sir Scott, but if anyone out there has some Illy prowess, please chime in. I'm referring to Scott's example in post #6 of this thread.

I can create a dot pattern, no problem, creating swatches, patterns, or using blends, but where I'm hitting the wall is the gradient effect. Tried opacity masks, but that doesn't cut it. One other question I have is, what technique would I use if I wanted an offset dot pattern, say 45°.

Illustrator :: Convert Halftones Into Opacities?

Feb 12, 2014

Is there a quick and easy way to convert halftones into opacities?

For example, if I have an element with a 50% black fill, is there a way (besides manually) to convert to a solid black fill with a 50% opacity? This is, of course, a simplified example. But consider artwork with a large variety of halftones that I would like to be scales of opacity instead. As you can imagine, it would be mindnumbingly tedious to have to adjust manually across the entire artwork.

The primary use of this would be in recoloring art containing halftones. If I select a different swatch that I want as the new base color, the entire artwork is recolored at 100%, instead of retaining the appropriate halftones. I know I could use the "Recolor Artwork" method, but it would be much simpler to simply have the halftones set as opacities and be able to select any color that strikes my fancy on the fly from the main color palette.

But the printer says I must use trapping. I watched a bunch of video tutorials, but none of them seem applicable to this particular kind of artwork, in which I WANT some of the background/paper to show through. But not everywhere. I work in Illustrator CS6.

VideoStudio :: Controlling DVD Size / Reduction?

Oct 11, 2013

I have a video that is 2:20-long, so it is a bit longer than a DVD/DL (8.5GB) at full HQ. But, when I let X6 "make it fit", it seems to reduce it by almost 50%, making the DVD folders only 5.1GB. This really ruins the quality.

Is there any way I can either control the reduction or tell it to leave the output alone when writing to hard-drive/DVD folders. I can then use a different DVD/video processing program that is smart enough to control the reduction just enough to comfortably fit/fill a DVD/DL (I have such a program) and not use a 100/50/25% approach to compressing/reducing.

Illustrator :: Black Drop Shadow Bleeding Onto White Text During Printing (but Looks Fine On Screen)

Sep 25, 2013

For my business card design I have white text overlapping an area of very white grey- causing readability issues (insufficient contrast). It looks great apart from this one problem, so I still want to keep my white text and light background and fix it by separating the text and background with a darker drop shadow..

First, I added a black drop shadow to the text- but this was not enough to increase readability (text still looked faded on background as drop shadow was too subtle at 85% opacity, 0.04" blur) so I added a drop shadow to my drop shadow (100% opacity, 0.02" blur + 18% opacity, 0.02" blur). This produced a heavier drop shadow effect for my text as desired but, for some reason, the text came out slightly grey in print (offset run). It seems the drop shadow somehow got printed over the text itself to some extent- turning the white text somewhat grey (and so not looking as clean as intended).

How could this dropshadow bleed into the text happen? Is it to do with the fact I added a drop shadow to my drop shadow? I would have thought that, even then, the text should entirely overlap all of the drop shadow as the text is the top layer in the group.

What can I do to ensure that drop shadow does not print over text in any way in future? Do I have to stick to only one layer of dropshadow-or is there something else I'm missing?

AutoCAD 2010 :: Controlling Toolbar Size

Oct 2, 2013

Problem: I need to be able to control the size of toolbars (ICON size) via the worspace.

More Details: There is a department in our company that has a very specific function they need to perform in our ACAD drawings.

I created ONE toolbar that has the commands they need and set this toolbar to be the only thing that is displayed in their workspace.

Since it is just one toolbar I thought it would be good for the tool bar to use the large icon setting. But I only need to it to change when when using this one workspace.Other workspaces need to use small icons.

Is there a way to control the icon sizes when switching between workspaces?
