Illustrator :: Colors From Screen To Customers Printer Are Printing Wrong
Nov 12, 2013
I run an online wedding invitation design business. I first create the digital files of the invitations in Adobe Illustrator CS5, then secondly I email the PDF file to my customers, and finally the customers are responsible for printing the invitations themselves. Some people print from a home computer, some have a local print shop print them (professional OR places like Staples and Office Max), and some upload the design to an online print service.
I use Adobe Illustrator CS5 and cmyk colors to create my file.
2 times this year I have run across a problem that I don't know how to fix. The customer says that when they print the PDF at home AND at a local print shop (Staples or otherwise), the colors are not right. Specifically, my Peach color was printing Brown for her, and my light Pink color was printing Tan for her.
The first file I sent her was a PDF that I created from Illustrator. I also imported the .ai file into my Photoshop Elements 5.0, and then saved it as a JPG and PSD. Those two printed the same results for her. She printed from home and from Staples. Both printed wrong.
I have made 250+ sales in the last 12 months, and this is only the second time it has happened.

I'm relatively new to Illustrator (I'm a fine artist not a graphics professional) and having some difficulty with preparing pdf files for screen printing positives.I passed some of my photos through Vector Magic anf got a 3 color vector pdf.I converted the colors to global spot cmyk. What I need to do is get each color onto a separate layer. I don't have a postscript printer and would like to have everything prepared before I take artwork to a print shop to get screen positives printed. For some reason when I go Select > Same > Fill color (and either cut to a new layer or select inverse and delete on a duplicated layer) I'm not getting everything showing up. It looks like the document needs to be flattened or something, though I have tried that with no effect.

After changing picture to black and white or any other color change the picture will print some of the original colors especially greens and tans. This occurs when changing a jpg file or using layers. It did not happen in CS2 using the same Epson printer and the same printer settings.
I am using Vista OS.

I have been printing with an epson [artisan 50] for a long time, always great colors on my pc.
just switched to a mac and latest version of ps cs6 and my prints are not color correct [very muted colors on the print] It is definitely not the printer [prints perfect from otherc applications]
I have tried many of the settings / color management options, but none seem to do the job. Right now I have it set on 'photoshop manages color' and then for printer profile my printer type with correct paper.
I don't know what to do- share their knowledge on color management/printing

My printer (actually, it's a laser engraver) is reading the entire artboard in addition to the actual image as needing to be run when set for "3D" (aka greyscale) images, as opposed to just going to the image on the artboard. It is running as though it sees the empty space as white and it is trying to "color" it. When it gets to where the image is placed on the artboard, it runs the image (black or greyscale) within/on it. It wastes A LOT of time. I guess, what I really want to know is how to make sure the artboard area is not being picked up and seen as a part of the image. I need it's dimentions to be read, but not any fill except for the actual image(s) on the artboard. I've never had this problem in the past with other machines (by the same manufacturer) using Illustrator. I was using CS5, not CC.
I ran this by the laser company's techs and they say it is an issue with my Illustrator/Adobe set up, not their driver.

When printing, does the printer follows the bleed dimensions or my original dimension?
So if it follows the bleed dimension, (For example.) I want my name card to be 85mm x 45mm with 3mm bleed, my inital dimension (when being created) have to be 79mm x 39mm (due to minusing off 6mm on both sides)? Am I right to say that?

Will Illustrator CS5 files print on a standard inkjet printer or is some sort of RIP software required? I'm considering an Epson WF-7520.

You can see in the attached screen cap that colors 1-9 appear as white on my screen and that colors 10-22 are not correct either. This is only occuring in one specific drawing. Is there a preference that I switched somewhere that would make this happen? I have double checked that everything is ByLayer or ByColor that I can think of. If I insert this color chart into other drawings it looks fine. using C3D 2012.
I would just restart my drawing, however it is the new company template file that I have invested many hours into and would really like to be able to keep working with it and not start over. Or is there a good way to import and overwrite all the Prospector settings into a blank drawing?

I am unable to save .pdf versions of color separations. I followed the tutorials (changed all colors to cmyk or spot colors, selected the printer adobe post script, changed the output to Separations (host-based), desected the colors I didn't want on the separations), but something goes wrong when I save. When I click save, I am given no option to save the separation as a .pdf. The program seems to be unable to save the separation as any sort of readable file. In the drop down box where it should provide a .pdf option, it merely says "All Files." If I save my separation using this option, then Illustrator creates a file unreadable by Acrobat Reader.

(I use Macromedia Freehand MX), I just recently download the trial illustrator, and my question is to know how to open points in Illustrator images for screen printing in freehand using the Halftone in Illustrator I've tried but is not the same as the finish is different and of very poor quality here is a sample as freehand and illustrator as stated in:
Look at the difference of points:
As you can see in Illustrator can only do that from the menu: Effects / Pixelate / Color Halftone... , not sharp as seen in the picture above and therefore the image does not get to see very well, while in freehand if you can manipulate the points from large fine to a point, points also can be made round, linear or ellipse and therefore may work better for screenprints and other designs that open nesecitan points at home. What I'm interested to know if there is another way to work so that the image is sharp with the open items as well as in freehand.

I'm using A Mac OS 10.6.8, and Illustrator CS5. I do garment screen printing. In my designs I use a gradient, which needs to have the halftone dots controlled, and a certain size, to expose properly on my screens to then print. I can't seem to figure out how to adjust the frequency or LPI, and the angle so that they work. It still prints out as a seen on screen

I was wondering if I need to "trap" all 3 layers of color in this design which will be screen-printed as a 16x20 sized poster. In some parts of the design, I purposely made the colors a bit offset. But the printer says I must use trapping. I watched a bunch of video tutorials, but none of them seem applicable to this particular kind of artwork, in which I WANT some of the background/paper to show through. But not everywhere. I work in Illustrator CS6.

For my business card design I have white text overlapping an area of very white grey- causing readability issues (insufficient contrast). It looks great apart from this one problem, so I still want to keep my white text and light background and fix it by separating the text and background with a darker drop shadow..
First, I added a black drop shadow to the text- but this was not enough to increase readability (text still looked faded on background as drop shadow was too subtle at 85% opacity, 0.04" blur) so I added a drop shadow to my drop shadow (100% opacity, 0.02" blur + 18% opacity, 0.02" blur). This produced a heavier drop shadow effect for my text as desired but, for some reason, the text came out slightly grey in print (offset run). It seems the drop shadow somehow got printed over the text itself to some extent- turning the white text somewhat grey (and so not looking as clean as intended).
How could this dropshadow bleed into the text happen? Is it to do with the fact I added a drop shadow to my drop shadow? I would have thought that, even then, the text should entirely overlap all of the drop shadow as the text is the top layer in the group.
What can I do to ensure that drop shadow does not print over text in any way in future? Do I have to stick to only one layer of dropshadow-or is there something else I'm missing?

I just downloaded GIMP today, and I cannot make the painting tool () to give the correct colors. I tried adding a leather brown color and got a dark grey instead - the same if I use .
I tried changing the color to a pink, but all I got was a lighter shade of grey.
I accidentally moved the tool specifics out of the toolbox window on the left, and it says I can dock it back in, but I cannot figure out how ?

1 have a PC (XP 32 bits with PhotoShop Element. V1.0) I have another PC (W7 64bits) with PhotoShop V10. I have a color laser printer Brother CN4040. All these advices are connected with Ethernet.
I have a problem with the colors when I print some JPG pictures with this printer only when I use the PC (W7 64 bits with PhotoShop V10). For example, a picture with blue/purple at the screens prints like brown. I precise that printed with the XP PC, all the time, the colors are true (blue/purple). The 3 toner cartridges are new. Before I bought PSE 10, I had the same problem with PSE 1.0 on the PC (W7). I tried many printing settings on the PSE (W7) without success. The color pictures seems OK at the 2 screens.

I am currently running win 7 64 with lightroom 4.3and an Epson Stylus Pro 3880 networked. I also have a HP 2610 as local. When printing to the Epson I get print with a lot of red to the point it looks pink or purple. This is with the color management driver set to custom and color management turned off or vice versa with color controlled by printer. If I print to the HP colors look great. I have tried different paper outputs with no luck. I also have the same problem in CS5.

In our job, one of my CAD guys published files from two different ACAD models (one plumbing and one hvac piping) to PDF. I have our ctb setup to plot our background (color as light/grey scale. For some reason it plotted the background as a slight purpleish (similar to color 171). BUT when he published the two together, the plumbing drawings came out fine, and only the HVAC piping ones plotted this way. Which lead me to believe it was the CAD file.
However, now none of us can duplicate it and it's always plotting the purple no matter what. I've checked the layer colors, the VP colors, we've tried publishing, DWG to PDF, straight to plotter, etc. It all comes out the same. I don't think plotter ink is the issue as it should all be plotting black and white and our main piping and border is plotting fine. The PDF's we create look fine as well.
We have a Canon iPF710.

i have to admit i rarely printed from LR before.most of the time i print from photoshop.but yesterday i had to print a lot of small images so i thought i try LR for it.
i wanted to print a few 35x45mm images on DIN A4 paper.
images dimensions are correct (35x45mm 360 DPI) and it prints as 35x45mm images when i use photoshop.
when i use LR and i set the cell size to 35x45mm the prints come out to small by a couple of millimeters.
LR has not so many print settings i could have messed up.. right?
