I am using Illustrator CS3 and 5 and i am in screen printing business, I would like to able to print each screen separations with gradient pattern (dots) to pdf file so i can send it to my printer and the only thing he has to do print the films without worrying about the dot % for the images that have a gradient pattern.

In my designs I use a gradient, which needs to have the halftone dots controlled, and a certain size, to expose properly on my screens to then print. I can't seem to figure out how to adjust the frequency or LPI, and the angle so that they work. It still prints out as a seen on screen

I installed on 2 different mac computers with mountain lion. I need to get these color seps out for screen print. There's thousands of screen print designers out there doing seps in illustrator, how do I fix?

The image is CMYK, its a single spot colour (I think) which is red and the outlines are black. Printer is a Canon ix6500.
I can't seem to separate the colours in Illustrator CS3?! Why?! When selecting Print > Output > Mode > it won't allow me to select Colour Separations.
I've tried to overcome this by selecting Printer > Adobe Postscript and PPD > Canon ix6500 series. This allows me to select Colour Separations, but then it won't print, it only saves it as a PDF, and prints it as is.
quite puzzled about the following. within illustrator i am trying to create a pattern of squares, with the squares themself slowly transiting (gradient) from 1 color to another...

i made 4 little squares, used them as a swatch. filled a big rectangle with the swatch and expanded the object again so all squares are now individual elements...
now all i need is the full gradient from left to right but filling each square with one fixed color.
I am printing to my Epson 4880 for screen printing film. I have recently upgraded to CS6 on Windows 7. I can choose the separations option in the print window and edit the dot frequency and angle options.
When the film is printed, the graphics are printed as grayscale NOT dot pattern. This will not work when exposing screens. There is nothing new that I am doing so I must have some settings overlooked.
I'm trying to print color separations as a Postscript file from Illustrator CS5 and the halftone areas keep showing up as grayscale instead of the specified frequency and angle. I've tried usiing multiple PPDs and options but I'm having no luck.

GetPathStyle (myArt, &pathArtStyle);
pathArtStyle.strokePaint = false;

pathArtStyle.fill.color.c.b.gradient = myGradient;

I just installed Update 4 for Corel X6 and now I can't print separations from the HP5000 printer. I can composites. When I go to print, the error message says "Nothing is selected to be printed. Check your page range and/or separations settings". It shows current document to print and separations to be printed. It will not advance to the print preview page. It printed perfectly before Update 4.
I need to print separations. I can export out and PDF and print from Illustrator, but what a pain. Should I just do a system restore and forget Update 4 for now?
I have a b&w photo that I have added a spot of red to. I have done this in PS CS3. When I save the photo (as a psd) and import to Illustrator, and I try to print separations, the entire photo separates as cmyk.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for a way to print at around 200 lpi with a laser printer, but I don't know which one. I've bought a Laserjet Pro 200 n251mw but it doesn't seem to be able to print in halftone even with the PS emulation.
I'd like to be able to reproduce the distinctive rosette pattern on one of my collectible playing card. I've looked everywhere on google, but most of the doc about halftone is referring to low lpi work like T-Shirts.
The fact is that I can produce the desired halftone pattern I want in Illustrator, I just can't seem to find a way to print it. I've read about Xerox printers on this forum that are maybe able to do it, but I don't know. Is a 600 dpi laser printer enough or do I need more ?
Here's a sample of the halftone I want to reproduce, the canvas is approximately ¾ of an inch.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently reinstalled windows 7, and since then I've been having two problems with photoshop cs6.The first one is that whenever I make an action in the program like zooming, using the hand tool, making strokes with the brush, I get these black dots appearing and disappearing on the screen.They are like black pixels and appear at random locations.I actually had the same problem a couple of months ago and got the advice to install the 12.8 catalyst drivers for my ATI SAPPHIRE 7870, as they are the most stable.That fixed it and I haven't had the problem until now when I reinstalled my windows and it started happening again.The only difference is that installing the 12.8 drivers doesn't fix it anymore.I tried many driver versions 13.4, 13.5 beta, 12.10 and the problem stays.I know it's a GPU problem, because when I desable the GPU in Performance, it fixes it.The only solution that I have found for this problem is to put the drawing mode on Basic in Performance and that fixes it.So this is not the main issue at the moment, since as far as I know, I can just stay in Basic mode and it won't affect my digital drawing.
The second problem that I have is that, there is a ton of screen tearing when I move my image around, like using the hand tool and the rotate view tool especially.It's like not having Vsync turned on or something, but as there is no option like that in PS CS6, I can't control that.I tried turning off and on the different option in Performance and nothing fixes it.It's interesting that even when I turn off GPU ussage, the problem still stays, so maybe it's not a video card/driver problem.So bottom line: black dots- fixed it with switching to Basic drawing mode, would like to know if there are other ways to fix it; screen tearing when moving the canvas/ image.
My PC specs are Core i3-3220 CPU 3.30 GHz, 8GB RAM Kingston HyperX, Sapphire Radeon 7870 HD 2GB GHz Edition, Motherboard - ASUS P8H77-V and I'm running on Windows 7 64-bit.
I have a client who is requesting that their "image" be saved as a PNG at "715px X 915px at 72 dpi", and have it print with the text crisp and clear. I have tried to convince them to use a PDF instead to ensure that the print quality would be where they want it to be however they reject that idea.
1. They are requesting 72 dpi not ppi. There is a difference, one is screen one is print. You cant have both in my opinion. I have been using ppi, since that is the setting that illustrator and photoshop allows.
2. You also should not save anything for print at 72 ppi. That will not produce the best quality image regardless.
3. I have attempted several different ways to save this.
- I have saved it in illustrator as a png and mulitple resolutions.
- I have used my illustrator png and put in Photoshop and re saved it, after re sizing it. The dimensions in illustrator never seem to stay accurate.
- i have attempted to save it as a PDF and convert to PNG is acrobat.
None of these work. There is no issue getting it to look nice on screen, its the printing part that I am having an issue with. When I save it at anything higher then 72 it increases the dimensions. If I create it at anything higher then 72, the dimensions increase as well. I have not been able to keep it at 715px x 915 px and have it print clearly. They come back and tell me i need to decrease the size, or the text is too blurry.
How do I get this PNG to be 715px by 915px at a 72 ppi (or dpi) resolution look good on screen, and print with clear crisp text?
I have some 2 coluor artwork consisting of 2 x pantone colours purple and grey.
Within the artwork is a stripe pattern swatch consisting of the same colours. On screen the colours are fine and I've checked all the colour settings and these are fine too.
Why however when i print the artwork does the pattern print in a different colour?
I am using CorelDRAW X4. I would like to add the Screen Dots to my texts or objects, but I don't know what to do, so who knows about this?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have an important question about how to set up my files for print. In school I was taught to work in CMYK or at least convert whatever RGB file I'm working on to CMYK. I'm at work now and the files I am printing are coming out dull (in CMYK). I converted a file to RGB and assigned the RGB 1998 colour space and re printed it. The first CMYK print looked grey and was not vibrant. The new RGB print printed very vibrant and matched the screen colours better than the CMYK. My boss wants me to do the rest of the prints in RGB seeing as it prints with better vibrancy. Also, I am working in Illustrator.
So my question is: Can I convert all my CMYK files to RGB, send them to the printing company and expect the prints to be vibrant? Or will converting my CMYK files to RGB mess up the printing companies standards?
RGB prints better, but I was taught to always print in CMYK mode.
Actually I'm going to leave the files in CMYK since turning them into RGB may cause colour loss during the final large prints. I will print the presentation files in RGB though.
I just bought the PHOTOSHOP CS4, and I am having problem when it prints. The image is not clear, it has dots (pixels). This computer where I installed this program is brand new. I have previously worked with Photoshop CS2 and never had an issue but was force to buy this new one because the computer that I bought has Windows Vista and CS2 is not compatible. I thought maybe the problem was my printer but is not I have a Brother HL-5140 (black and white). I have connected my old computer with the printer and the images print perfectly fine. I have printed photos and it prints clear. But this only happens with Photoshop CS4. It prints dots.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen printing a plan with a background mask, the mask shows as a bunch of ting gray dots. Also we have a plot style, using STB, that is supposed to print white, but it too prints as a light gray hatch. It is not that big of a deal until we scan to run sets. The dots and hatch get picked up more intensely by the scanner and it looks like hell, a big gray background. It happens on label masks too: contours, structures, etc. Wipeouts are okay, but those are not used much anymore. I am printing to an OCE TDS600 with current drivers, I have even tried older drivers. I also tried printing to DWF then to the printer and got the same result. Printing to DWF actually added little gray plus signs for the wipeout. The scanner is a OCE TDS600, and we plot with the grays & lines setting.
I have heard the dots are unavoidable, but I really don't want to believe that because it makes our plans look like crap.
I have tried unsuccessfully to export colour separations from Illustrator (CS5.1 MacOSX). I need the separations in an editable file format, but it seems like I am only able to print separations.
I have tried to print to a file with Output set to host-based separations but even that seems to be impossible. I get an error message "The save as PDF options in the Printer dialog are not supported".
The software is clever enough to do the separations, but somehow it can only print, not export them. Is there any additional software that would pose as a printer but instead of printing would create a file?
Is it possible to make spot color separations from blended shapes.
I blended a red spot colored irregular shape with a spot colored yellow shape and now want to output 2 film positives from my postscript printer. Unfortunately the blended pathes became process colors. I am using illustrator cs 6 on a Mac.
When I go to print and select output, the mode selection is locked and I am unable to select separations. Using CS6.
