View 2 Replies1. I have a box shape, with a transform effect applied on it that copies the box 5 times horizontally.
2. I want to use these 6 boxes as a clipping mask.
3. How do I:
a) Directly use this object as a clipping mask? Doesn't look like it's possible. When I try it only uses the original single box as the mask. The other 5 boxes disappear.
b) "Break" the box shape object into 6 separate boxes so that they're no longer "phantom copies" but individual objects that I can then group to form a real clipping mask.
Create shape > Transform > Move horizontal or vertical > select number of copies (missing!)
This was one of my favorite tricks but it looks the ability has been removed in CS6! So now if I want to make a sequence of shapes how can I do it?
Adobe fail? or am I missing something?
I design flags for people and have worked with Illustrator for just over a year. Most logo's I've worked are 2D and I've never had any issues that I could overcome ( I learn as I go along) however I have been given a logo which has the Extrude & Bevel effect on (which I haven't worked with before) (see first image). I have to make this logo much bigger but when i do it stretches and reshapes the logo. (see 2nd image).
The scale stroke & effect box, is checked. I am working in CS6. So how do I resize this logo proportionately?
I was wondering if it's possible to do what Effect > Distort & Transform > Transform does from JS. I had a look at the documentation and found nothing in that direction.
The closest thing I found was PageItem.applyEffect(effectXML) looking at the Object Model Viewer in Extend Script Toolkit, but couldn't find documentation for it and I suspect it might have something to do with SVG filters perhaps ?
In conclusion: Is it possible to apply a Transform effect from JS (and if so, how )?How can applyEffect be used ?
Ever wondered how to perfectly fill an outline with touching circles? I did -- after seeing the example image in Solving design effect - image made of perfectly arranged circles.
It took me a while to get the proper calculations, but -- Here It Is! A Javascript, written for Illustrator CS4 (it might work on other versions as well), that fills a selected outline with circles. Download zipped script from my site: [URL] ...., unpack if necessary, and put it in your Illustrator Scripts folder to make it available the next time you run Illy, or anywhere else (you have to browse for it each time).
Select any path -- but no live text; you have to convert it to outlines and select each character in turn. Then run the script.
It displays a simple dialog, where you can set a maximum and minimum circle size as a percentage of the selected object size. In addition, you can select either a plain basic color, or select any of your current Swatch Groups; in that case, each of the circles are filled with a random color from that group.
The script may take a while to run. Usually, only a couple of seconds for a simple rectangle, but it may run into minutes for objects with lots of curves and/or holes. I didn't have the guts to run it on a vectorized world map, to recreate Mario "Quasimondo" Klingemann's Foam World Map; but, in theory? Possible.
This image only took a few minutes:
New to Illustrator, coming from CorelDraw background, wanting to notch up a lvele or two. I am trying to make a series of business cards, for some people in the same company, and thought I should make new artboard for each business card, but somehow duplicate common text and graphics on all of them. Is this possible with something lika a Transform dynamic effect?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am just starting out with the Photoshop CS5 trial. I am trying to apply a triangular pattern to a thin rectangular shape. I used the custom shape tool>triangle, then defined the pattern successfully. However, when I apply the pattern it partially repeats it along the vertical as well as the horizontal axis. Please see attached screenshot:
I only want it to repeat horizontally, what am I doing wrong?
Also, I am Fireworks CS5 user and am really missing the properties inspector panel which allows you to quickly and esily edit sizes of objects, is there a Photoshop equivalent of this?........at the moment the only way I can find to edit objects is through Edit>Free Transform.
I have converted old Family movies to DVD and am trying to download into Photoshop to edit and burn copys can this be done? Try to get done before christmas for family gifts.
View 4 Replies View Relatedi put copyright text on my photos, i didn't flatten image but " save as" in JPEG,click "save" then before i close the photos , it said "save changes to the adobe photoshop document ...before closing?" then i clicked NO.
And now i opened these photos to change the size of the copyright text and year, i can't because there's no layer for the text, only a background which means the text and photo are in one layer. What should i do? or did i make a mistake somewhere?
I took a promo portrait of a book author that needs to be in color and b&w depending on where it will be used (b&w on the book sleave, color on a flyer, etc). I have a vitual copy for the b&w image which has different contrast settings, otherwise they are identical. Normally I only have one photo to deal with if I need to use Photoshop, and it's aways my last step. This is a little different in that if I don't want to adjust the contrast on the edit, I will have to eyeball the same brush strokes both copies, which will never exactly match. Is there any way to do an identical Photoshop "Liquify" edit on both?

I edited photos in Adobe Camera Raw from Bridge, but when I look at the same files in Lightroom, they do not appear to include the edits. I did verify that xmp files were created when I edited the files in ACR. Why is Lightroom not reading the xmp file and showing the edits?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am having an issue that cropped up as of late - I try to create a virtual copy of a photo, but instead of the normal page-turn icon in the bottom left and it auto-expanding to show the copies, it just creates a stack, and says "2" or "1 of 2" and the double line bars on both sides of the preview in Grid Mode. Is there a setting that I changed that caused that?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've been experiencing this a lot more lately, and I've yet to find the one discerning aspect of my project that keeps the EDIT > TRANSFORM option from being usable.
Often I'll make a selection with the LASSO or SELECTION tool, it'll be on a layer where the selection encompasses an object (that is not vector), and it's not a selection of the entire canvas (like a CTRL + A). I'll goto EDIT and notice that TRANSFORM is greyed out. The image is in RGB mode, and I'll deselect, make the selection again and STILL not be able to select it.
Are there other things which can prevent that option from being enabled that I'm not thinking of? The layer is not locked and it isn't the background either.
Oh, also, without making a new thread, is it possible to move an anchor while you're drawing with the PEN tool? I thought you could hold SPACEBAR to move it before you released the mouse click, but I just end up having to use the SUBSELECT tool to move the anchors after it's drawn.
I Made a cool glowing effect with my name in it and i want to make it my desktop background. How do i do it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy digital camera has a tendency to distort as the image nears the outside of the frame. Is there a photoshop function that can correct this? I have tried the Transform functions (skew, distort, etc), and correcting half of the image is easy by dragging the corner grips away from the center to stretch the image, but, when I go to the opposite end of each given side, the distortion returns. The problem is the grip at the midpoint on each side moves with the rest of the side when using this feature. Is there a transform feature or other command that does something similar, but the midpoint grips stay stationary, basically taking the rectangular shape of the image and making it into an hourglass or four pointed star?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to design a dvd sleeve using only photoshop. I have several photos on several layers that need to be sized the same and I have been using the info/navigator tool as a guide. I notice that after transforming the scale my photo loses sharpness and when I enlarge it is pixelated. I must be losing pixels/information when I transform the scale of the photos- the more I transform, the more I lose detail.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThe problem I am having is that every single file I open looks like this. Once I click transform (which I have to) the layer no longer allows me to click and edit the layer. I like to re-size my images in relation to the multiple images I place on a document. My previous version of photoshop did not create a transform box with each new file. How can I adjust photoshop so that it doesn't do this. I am using CS5 on a PC.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI would like to do an edit / free transform to resize a layer in my image. I want to do this WHILE LOOKING AT a round path that I have created.
No problem in photoshop 7 , just turn on the path, select the image layer that I want to resize, edit/free transform and I can shrink the image while looking at the circular path to see how the image fits within the path.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there a function, script or way to use the type-in transform tool in the unwrap edit window? I know there was a script (Unwrap Tools 1.6) a few years ago I used with 2009 but you had to overwrite max's default unwrap edit window, and I don't want to do that. I'm using 2012 design now
Here's a screenshot of "Unwrap Tools 1.6"
I'm creating a flow chart/decision tree. I am animating the position of a diagram on the stage when a user selects yes or no in answer to a series of questions.
I've split up each diagram movement on the stage timeline as labels. I've staggered these transforms as keyframes on the same layer/track. The issue I'm having is when I manipulate the position of my diagram by moving it on the stage it affects adjacent transforms. I have my transforms seperated with a 1/10 second gap becuase I thought this would split the timeline up but it appears not!
While I can edit the transforms manually by typing in xy co-ordinates it would be ten times faster to move the diagram on the stage instead and not overwrite adjacent transforms.
How do I restrict the transform to the two keyframe points I am concerned with?
I am working in Illustrator CS (but this also happens when I open the file in CS3). I am on a Mac.
When I choose "open" or when I double click a particular file in the finder to open it, Illustrator opens two copies of it. FYI, the original file is named "AuroraTank.ai" But, when Illustrator opens the file, it opens one copy as "AuroraTank.ai:1" and the other "AuroraTank.ai:2". If I edit one of them it makes the changes simultaneously on both.
All of my files do not open this way so I must have saved it with a certain setting? What did I do to make Illustrator behave like this and how do I stop it?
It is only happening with 2 files, created in CS4. When I go to open either of these documents, I get 3 previews opening at once. I restarted Illustrator, I also tried saving one of the documents as a CS3 document and the problem happens every time. All of magnifications are different, one is at 99.37% and the 2 other open files are also at random magnifications. Is there a way to stop this from happening?
View 7 Replies View RelatedIllustrator actually makes a file labelled "copy"everytime the particular file is opened. Each time it is opened, it makes another copy & tags a number on the end. It only happens with the occasional file, but once this happens, nothing will stop the problem. Selecting all & pasting into a new file does not work. There are no extra views. The artwork is originally copied from the customer file & pasted into a new document.
