Illustrator :: Converting File To CYMK / Importing PDF To Indesign?
Dec 18, 2013
i have a deadline approaching to create a brochure. I have been using illustrator to create my page designs using a combination of photography and vector work and was wondering if i select everything within the document and convert to cymk wether this has indeed converted everthing including the Photos. I was also wondering is it best to save my files as PDF's before importing into Indesign to reduce file size or will the quality be better if an ai. file? It is a 200 page brochure and i am the sole designer as an intern at a travel company

Converting the standard RGB file to CYMK is a simple click, it looks the same on screen, but there is a huge color shift when it's printed. Everything is much more blue and with more contrast. I've worked with the different color models trying to adjust my image to get it more close to the original, but it's not going so well.

I work in InDesign and create documents which often has a lot of illustrator filesin them. Everything seems to work ok and I definitely prefer to put in vector graphics then raster them, however when it comes to creating a PDF of the document it end up being massive. I think it has something to do with the illustrator files that I place into InDesign, but I'm not sure how to make the illustrator files reduce in size when it comes to PDF-ing them from InDesign.
Is there any simple tricks when saving the illustrator file? Would it be better to save them as PDF's? Or does that not make any difference?

I converted a large document from RGB to CYMK (File | Document Color Mode). I'd like to select all of the text that was RGB(0,0,0) and is now CMYK(75.02,67.97,67.02,90.16) so I can change it to CMYK(0,0,0,100). I think the magic wand is the way to do this (correct me if I'm wrong).
I have text in a dozen or more text areas. Many of the text areas overflow text into another text area. Some of the text in the text areas is "black" but there is also text with other colors that I'd like to remain unchanged.
For example, I'd like to select all of the black text in the following two text areas without selecting the red text. I thought that I could click on the black text and have all the black text (but not the red text), selected, but the entire text box is selected (and nothing in the second text box is selected). Can the wand select some text within several text boxes? If not, how should I go about changing the black?

I designed artwork for a large banner (84" x 32") so my AI artboard is that large. As you can imagine, with all the text and graphics I used, this file size is 22.8 MB. I need to email this art to the printer, but the file size is too large to email. How do i go about reducing the file size in AI so it still maintains large format print resolution? Will saving to a PDF lose the print quality?

I made a really awesome logo in Adobe Illustrator earlier today and wanted to share it with my friends, but I didn't know how since none of them had Illustrator. Then I remembered that I once opened a PNG file in Illustrator, so I tried to save it as a PNG.
In case you haven't already guessed, my efforts were in vain. Is there anyway that I can convert an .ai to a .png?

So, I'm trying to create a repeat pattern of a Balloon illustration I've done in Adobe Illustrator. I've got the singular file (balloon.ai), which weighs in at around 700MB.
Now I'm trying to create the repeat of this pattern on a separate Artboard which will repeat these balloons, 30 balloons per repeat square to be precise.
What would be the best way to import these separate balloons into the repeat square once (as they're the same file) without affecting the weight of the file and performance of Illustrator?
So, in essence, is there a way to import that balloon.ai file and only have it use up 700MB on the page rather than 30x700MB by the time I've placed 30 balloons?
I can't rasterize the files as the printer needs the raw file.

I'm woring on a custom textile design that needs to be printed on fabric within the CAD-generated garmet production pattern.
The garmet pattern was created in the CAD progrom PAD.
PAD exports .dxf and .txt files. The dxf file imports into AI as text and code. The .txt file is unusable. It's scale is skewed and important information is missing from the file.
I'm working in AI 5.5 on a Mac. I've imported .dxf files from other cad progrms like Optitex no problem.
PAD exports .dxf AAMA. I need to import this into AI, and the AI forums say Illustrator can read .dxf files.

When converting a vector or Illustrator file (such as a logo) into a shape layer any gradient fill is lost. Is there no way to ensure the gradient fill is converted across or is this a matter for a future release of After Effects?

In CS6, I could import (open) DWG files and it would correctly categorize the input objects into separate layers. In CC, it is putting them into a group in a single layer, which is a big usability regression. Is there a fix for this?

When importing an SVG file, I woould like the top level SVG groups to be imported as separate Illustrator layers. Instead, Illustrator creates a single default layer on importing teh SVG file, and adds the tree of groups under that layer.

I have a large list of custom colors in Excel that has the color name and CMYK breakdown of each color. I'm looking for a way to import this information to create a custom Color Swatch Library. That will have the name of the color and the CMYK breakdown. So that I can easily use in Illustrator and Photoshop. Is there any way or application in doing this with out manually entering the information and creating a new library?

I want to know is it possible to preserve the color scheme of RGB into CMYK? I mean when we switch from RGB to CYMK, some changes in colors do occur. If it's not possible to protect the RGB colors entirely, is it possible to contain the change to the minimum?

I have imported an OAM file into the first page of an app I am making in InDesign. The OAM looks correct on load but once the animation begins it gets really big and all I see is a tiny portion of the animation.
I have other text and graphics on that page I was wondering if that could be the cause.

I eventually want to physically print a comic book. The printer across the street basically said that commercial printing mean CMYK colors. So, should I simply create and save my work in CMYK, or use RGB and then convert, assuming that the colors translate perfectly each time? Is there an advantage to either way? Disadvantage?

I was wondering if y'all might be able to help me. My printer always wants images in CYMK format, but whenever I work in CYMK many of the filters are unavailable to me. I'm using P/S CS. Is this a problem with my particular install or is this something others have found? I tried to search through forums for answers but I came up with nothing.
A graphic designer friend of mine says he works in P/S 5 and all his filters are available regardless of color format. It wouldn't be a big deal but when you change from say RGB to CYMK at the end of your work it changes the colors and some of the effects of the work itself. Anyways, thanks in advance for any advice you may have.

I'm trying to colorize a black and white picture. (Again) The last time I did it I used the "hue/saturation with colorize." Some of you guys told me that it wasn't the best way to to it and suggested I try using the CYMK and curves instead.
