My Ai file will not place in InDesign with out losing its smoothness. I have tried placing it from AI, I have also tried as a .tiff. I am not sure why it is losing quality.
View 3 RepliesI burned a DVD of some .MOV clips, and the quality of the video on the DVD is noticeably worse than the original files. The size of the original files is 2.9 GB, but they are shrunk down to just 2.01 GB on the DVD. The bitrate is also significantly lower.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to generate an interactive, animated PDF, but the .swf-files i placed to my indesign-file are totally blurry and, as they contain text, unreadable.
What I did is:
- Design my interactive stuff (animated timeline) in InDesign (both CS6 and CC)
- select all the animated elements, export them as .swf.
- place the new file in another InDesign-Document and export it as an interactive PDF-file.
The animated elements DO WORK but are totally blurry and pixelated... No settings in both export-dialogues seem to work.
I have simple line drawings in illustrator (outlines of clothes) that I wish to open in photoshop to add colour and effects to. When i have tried to copy and paste (as normal paste, smart object, pixels, path and shape layer) the quality is lost.
I have also tried to open or place the file in photoshop as a .psd, .ai , .pfd and still the quality is lost.I have saved with different resolution settings too, but it always loses quality when it is opened in photoshop.
Is there any way to have a clear line drawing like it is in illustrator in photoshop?
i have a deadline approaching to create a brochure. I have been using illustrator to create my page designs using a combination of photography and vector work and was wondering if i select everything within the document and convert to cymk wether this has indeed converted everthing including the Photos. I was also wondering is it best to save my files as PDF's before importing into Indesign to reduce file size or will the quality be better if an ai. file? It is a 200 page brochure and i am the sole designer as an intern at a travel company
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just started using the CC version of the design products this weekend, and yesterday I spent all day working on a design in Illustrator. Today if I try to open it, Illlustrator just hangs - and eventually I have to force quit. I get no error messages at all.
I can open the file in my old version, CS5.1. And really, I shoudl be able to open it where I created it.
This is not a particularly large or complicated file.
How do I get "guides and grids" to stay as I input them in Illustrator 6? Didn't used to return to default setting in previous versions
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am currently designing a logo with the extrude and bevel effect. It is fine at full size, but when I copy and paste it and scale it down for another file--a.e. a business card--the effect is lost.
Why is this happening? Do you have to apply the effect seperately when the object is rescaled?
I've seen this done often in logo designs, but how do you arc text while keeping the vertical alignment as well as a straight line along the top, so essentially just the bottoms of the letters form an arc? I want the end result to look like the text below (I took the image from a tutorial for another program, but it seemed very complicated, messing with each letter node) is there a simpler way in Illustrator CC to achieve this? I know you can type on a path along an ellipse, but that doesn't keep the letters aligned vertically. I'd like for the top to remain straight across, and just the bottom of the letters form that shape of an arc.

I'm having some problems properly opening an Illustrator Template file in CS3 that I saved when I was using CS5 (I use CS6 now). My co-worker uses CS3 and can't open the template I made using CS5. I haven't found an option anywhere to be able to downsave the template file to an earlier version. allow my co-worker to open the template file without having any compatibility issues?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI routinely use stroke profiles to modify stokes that also have a brush appearance. When I change the brush, the profile is lost. The only way I found, to keep the stroke profile, is to save the profile before changing the brush appearance, then reasign the profile. I wonder if it is a programming oversight that deletes the profile from the stroke in this case.
I also would like to see a better method of saving/updating/editing stroke profiles. There is currently no way to overwrite a profile. Again, an oversite, in my opinion.
Stroke profiles should be available in a panel, similar to brushes. They are powerful effects, but poorly implemented.
I'm still working primarily, in CS5, but I think these features have remained the same in CS6.
I'm having a bit of problem with my CS6 Illustrator and it started in illustrator CS5, I can create an eps file within Illustrator save it as CS6, but when i go to open it again i get an error " Can't open the illustration. The illustration exceeds an implementation limit. I get an option to click ok and when i do i get a blank artboard with nothing on it.
I can see the artwork preview in the finder window when i select the eps file, I can open it in photoshop, convert it in preivew and if i place the file back into illustrator i can see the artwork and click embed to edit it.
I have come across an odd issue! I have an object built and saved as an illustrator file, which has some knockout type (transparency). When I placed this object in another illustrator file, all is well, and I save this new file. When I reopen the new file, I noticed that illustrator has moved the placed object very slightly. I have looked at other placed files and objects in this new file and illustrator doesn't seem to affect those. Every time I resave the file, illustrator adds the same shift to the objects current position. If I just open the file without saving, the position stays as is. The shift is added by illustrator when I save the file!
what may be causing this issue and how to prevent it? (I suspect it might have to do with the knockouts but I can't figure it out).
This is in CS4. T
PS: Another strange thing is that when I tried to save the object-with-knockout as an EPS file from illustrator, the EPS file discarded the transparency.
Why does my illustrator file open in outline mode? Why won't it allow me to switch the view mode to preview instead of outline? It is a larger file but my computer should be able to handle it. It recently froze on me and now I can't get it to preview when I open it.

View 10 Replies View Relatedevery time when I want to open a file, Illustrator keeps showing the same directory (for example HD Macintosh/workfolder).
Normally Illustrator would show the last directory I used. For that matter, Illustrator also does this when I want to save an Illustrator file. It's a bit annoying when I have several documents I want to save into the same directory or folder and I have to click to the right directory for every document I made, because normally Illustrator shows up the last directory I used.
I use Illustrator CS5.5 on an Imac running iOS 10.8.2.The second problem I have (with Illustrator as well as InDesign) is that after my iMac hasn't been used for a while and it goes to sleep, after waking up, both Illustrator and InDesign crashed. This problem doesn't occur every time, but every now and then.
I work with several files at a time and it can become annoying when you open several files and a minimized file keeps opening after each one. I don't want to have it open in the background, I just want it to stay minimized until I'm ready to work with it.

It was working perfectly fine over the weekend and then Monday I open illustrator and try to open a drawing I was working on and it closes on me everytime. Now I can't open or save files without it closing itself. I would uninstall and reinstall it but i lost my code. I have to make vector images for a couple of clients of mine!

We lost work as AI gets confused. I don't understand why there isn't a read only like other programs. we are on a server and there has to be a way to know if it is being used? Saves phone calls and time and...depending on who saves when...we lose work. I must be missing something with CS6.

View 14 Replies View RelatedOut of the blue I've started receiving the following error when opening any and all Illustrator files out of CS5: The operation cannot complete because of an unknow error. [PARM]
I don't use or create scripts. It doesn't matter how big or small the AI file...always with that error. I can click "OK" and the file appears totally in tact.
When I attempt to use Illustrator CS6 to open an .eps file exported from Google Sketchup Pro 8 I get the following error message "the file is an unknown format and cannot be opened".
If I try to place/link the file I get this message "can't place the illustration. Could not set a position inside the file." Is there an eps version compatibility issue I should be aware of?
Is there a way to remove redundant points whilst maintaining the exact shape of the path?
After using Pathfinder or Expand there are often many redundant points which can't be removed using Simplify or Unite.
The VectorScribe plugin has a Smart Remove Points feature which is exactly what I want. I'm presuming the only way I can get that feature is to buy the plugin.
A simple example is shown below: The path is part of an exact circle and I need to remove one of the anchors.
I'm having a lot of trouble understanding how Adobe Illustrator (CS6) manages character styles imported from different ai documents. If I create all character styles in a single .ai document and only use them in in that document, everything works as expected--colors, fonts, and typography settings are maintained in the character style, and newly added text can be quickly styled with the character style.
My trouble starts when i want to re-use those character styles in a new .ai document. From the character style menu I use the option to import the character styles from another document, and they import correctly--all of the styles work and style text as expected. But then i save & close the document and re-open it to find that the character style entries are there, but the fills and strokes are all messed up--fonts, sizes, typography settings are maintained, but styles with a blue fill are suddenly filed with black, or some other color.
This happens even if the swatches associated with the character styles are imported to the new document as well. I've read that all character styles are based off of the 'normal' character style.
Why does the image quality seem to get worse in Elements 11 once the image is opened up after editing from Camera RAW? The image looks great in the RAW screen, then once opened in Photo editor it seems pixelated, smooth lines look jagged. Is it something I am doing wrong?
