InDesign :: Photos And Their Printing Quality
Mar 13, 2014
I'm doing up a pamphlet that has a few color photos in it. However, the pamphlet will be printed on a regular ol' black and white desktop printer. Is there some way to optimize the photos so that they'll print best?

I want to generate an interactive, animated PDF, but the .swf-files i placed to my indesign-file are totally blurry and, as they contain text, unreadable.
What I did is:
- Design my interactive stuff (animated timeline) in InDesign (both CS6 and CC)
- select all the animated elements, export them as .swf.
- place the new file in another InDesign-Document and export it as an interactive PDF-file.
The animated elements DO WORK but are totally blurry and pixelated... No settings in both export-dialogues seem to work.

I am trying to import photos from my computer to Photoshop elements 11. It has imported most but wont import some as "file quality is too high". How do I get around this? Do I have to downgrade the quality of my photos? To do editing wouldn't you want the best quality photos to start off with?

My Ai file will not place in InDesign with out losing its smoothness. I have tried placing it from AI, I have also tried as a .tiff. I am not sure why it is losing quality.

I'm used to printing in Photoshop and somewhat with RIP.
My designer just created a PDF portfolio where many images are specific crop, and specific lay outs, and some bleed over the page etc.
She said there are great advantages to printing from IN design, in that you can later go back to the master file in Photoshop with layers and re- insert it etc, as well as other advantages, primarily, of course, you dont have to re-configure the whole layout as single PS files.
Of course, I would have to buy In Design and deal with learning curve, and not have the RIP option.

A print job with complex shaded / patterned backgrounds is no longer printing correctly. It works fine when the job is sent to Acrobat where the backgrounds print correctly to the same printer. Is there a setting I should be changing?

I created a PDF from a webpage. Afterwards, I needed to crop and combines various parts of pages using photoshop. Some of the pages come out of the stadard margins. When I print nothing is cut off and the font looks exactly the same size but the text is extrememly fuzzy.

I have created artwork in Photoshop and my dpi was set at 72 dpi for web display. Now I would like to print these but at 300dpi. If I change the dpi it reduces the physical size of my original image and I am afraid that the final print quality will be compromised. How can I be sure that my original image quality will be preserved? Also my original physical document size ranges anywhere from 7-8 inches wide to 8-10 inches high.

I'm trying to prepare an advertising piece and I'm trying to print out a mockup from my HP color laser jet. My question is, how can I get the printout to appear as it does on the computer screen, whenever I print it out now the resolution is really low and fuzzy. I want it (it least the text and other computer generated material like boxes, e.g. anything but pictures) to appear very sharp.

I inserted an indesign document of 42 A2 pages into a new indesign A1 landscape document to enable me print two sheets per page on an A1 drawing, and cut afterwards. How do I make sure the border line in the middle is also printed so I have a reference line where to cut the paper equally into two?

I am doing a cover for one book and the customer definitely wants one picture with very low quality on it. When it was printed as an attempt, the picture was very pixelized (one could see the pixels in a way they are - rectangle-like...). Is there any tool in Ps how to smooth tthem? What could be done to achieve as best printing quality as possible?!

Take Raw photo - use adjustment layers to modify image - save as PSD - place saved image in indesign - scale to appropriate size - save PDF - Print at printers. Sometimes I get moiré patterns, sometimes I get speckled images like using a sharpening tool or filter far too excessively.
Should I be resizing in Photoshop to exact final dimensions?

I'm working on my design for a project (book) and I want to export a typography into Photoshop to give it more effects, work with a textured background, etc. I was wondering if I export it as a PSD file I'll be able to keep the printing quality, since printing text from Photoshop comes out pixelated. Also, would I have to re-open it in Illustrator again after I'm done with Photoshop?

I am using two different types of raster ECW and MrSid. ECW file resolution goes way down when plotting. They look like blocks. MrSid files look fuzzy but alot better than ECWs. I've tried RASTERTHRESHOLD, and RASTERPERCENT. Both are set to 90. Using HP6100ps.
Images are fine when using Imageinsert.
Is there a setting i'm missing somewhere for them?

In this tutorial, we will be adding color and definition to "drained" images, which are lacking it.
This tutorial is similar in concept to 14Stones's Cool Render effect (simple) tutorial which can be found here. I discovered part of this method a while ago, and it isn't really a secret, so I didn't copy 14Stones.
Anyway, I will be using this image:
It's nice, but is lacking.
First, duplicate your picture.
Next, on the the top one, Gaussian Blur it by 5 pixels and set the layer mode to overlay.
Finally, Sharpen the bottom layer by 20 pixels.

exporting my CorelDrawX6 files as a high quality jpg for large scale printing purposes. In X4 it was very easy - just export as usual to the highest quality cmyk jpg and open in Photo Paint... now when I export this way it takes forever to bring up the preview page and most of the time it ends up being blank. Sometimes even crashes. I have played with all options in the filter dialog menu that I can find but nothing works. Thought it might be a file size problem but never had that problem in X4 and anything under 200dpi will not be high enough quality.

My still camera facilitates the taking of multiple panoramic shots than can be later stitched into one large file - a narrow, long image (about 5 Mb in my case). I can access this photo as with any other photo. However, if I zoom into it with the intent of panning from left to right so the full height of the image fills the screen, the quality goes way down. It is not the photo file itself because I can bring that up in the Windows photo gallery and it zooms up wonderfully. Also, if I zoom any regular photo to the same extent (about 400x) that image remains pretty good and does not have the same drop off in quality. I looked at all of the options I could find, but saw nothing I could do to improve the quality.
How to pan manually from one photo to another, instead of using the panoramic pic? I tried this using the overlay track but of course the overlay photo covers up the main track.

I'm doing a print photo book layout in InDesign using photos that I am processing in Lightroom 4 & Photoshop CS6. My question is, do I need to "File > Export" the files from Lightroom before placing them into InDesign? Or are the Lightroom final changes I make embedded in the .tif file?

I'm climbing the walls from last night (I uninstalled, updated, etc) Now is Lightroom 5.

I was told that if you resample by using exact multiples of the original file percentage size such as 100% to 50%, or 100% to 200% that image quality isn't compromised as much.

I have been on the phone for a few hours to Adobe but they are stil investigating. When I produce a slide show using Elements 11 the pictures are no way near as clear as they appear in the folders. I just want to show my pictures without them looking like crap. They were taken using the highest quality photo on the camera, which is a new Nikon and look great when viewing through Elements Organiser. They also look amazing in the original source, eg My Pictures files. When making slide show it asks the quality and I select high.
