Is it possible to change the order of the tools upon a keyboard shortcut press? For example, I want the path eraser, but have to go through the pencil and smooth tools first; is there any way to bring the eraser to the top of that stack or assign it to it's own shortcut?
View 5 RepliesI have a situation where the default behavior of my rectangle tool (or any of the other shape tools) is now different. I'm on Mac OS X 10.6.5 running Illustrator CS5. It acts as though the option-shift keys are pressed, so whenever I draw an object, it draws from the center point and the dimensions are constrained, so i can only draw a square or circle, not a rectangle or ellipse. Additionally, whenever I use the selection tool, it clones the object I drag, and also constrains the positioning, so i can only drag in a 0, 45 or 90 degree angle (or multiples thereof). It's as if my option-shift keys are permanently pressed (if I actually press option-shift, the behavior persists). I tried using a different (brand new) keyboard, tried throwing away preferences, and the problem remains. I also tried booting up Illustrator CS4, and the weird problem showed up there! This behavior just started happening spontaneously. I couldn't think of anything weird that happened (a crash, a new plug-in, etc.). I can't find a preference that sets this behavior either.

View 1 Replies View RelatedEverything you read says that to change the default AI (CS3) startup document you use this path:
Users > (User Name) > Library > Application Support > Adobe > Adobe Illustrator CS3 > New Document Profiles > *.ai
The problem is, under Mountain Lion that path doesn't exist. When I go to my user name, there is no "Library" folder at all. Under "Shared" there is an AI Library folder, but it has nothing of any value in it.
My AI startup document (that I've been using for ages) is found here:
HD > Applications > Adobe Illustrator CS3 > Plug-ins > filename.ai
However, if I navigate there and make changes, then quit Illustrator and re-launch it, nothing happens. I'm using the same old defaults as before. I know I need to upgrade to a later version of CS, but the prices have become so outrageous there's no way I can justify it as long as AI and PS are working. You need a mortgage to buy new Adobe products these days.
So in Photoshop when I select a tool on the toolbar and right-click it, I am given a menu of "sub" tools to choose from. In Illustrator, however, the same does not happen. I can select the tool on the toolbar, but right-clicking has no effect on those tools that appear to have sub-tools available (indicated, I thought, by the little corner triangle in the icon, just like Photoshop). Alt-clicking, alt-right-clicking, shift-clicking, ctl-clicking, nothing seems to work.
How do I, for instance, switch from the rectangle tool to the rounded rectangle tool (if there is one)? And how do I see which sub-options are available under those tools that have the little triangle?
I'm using Illustrator CS6 64-bit on Windows 7 64-bit
I got CS6 Design Standard and the default type tool is "Right-To-Left Type Tool". I don't see the way how to change it. I managed to change the default type face and language for new documents but the type tool is switching back to RTL no matter what. How to change this?

I know that when I draw with a brush or pencil tool in Photoshop, the line will pretty much look the way I drew it, warts and all.
On the other hand, when I draw in Illustrator with the Brush Tool, it tries to clean up the line for me. But it cleans up the line a little too much for my liking. How do I tell Illustrator to ease up on the clean-up?

I keep on forgetting to switch the scaling method, and thus often have to scale the image twice.

I'm not sure what I did to make this happen or how to change it back, but for some reason when I change the size of an object/line it changes the stroke weight as well. (For example, if I drew an ellipse with stroke weight 2 pt, and then increased the size the stroke weight would be 2.856 pt or some such number instead of 2 pt.) How to change this back?

Whenever I mport a part it has the welding texture applied to it. Where can I change it to so I don't have go around and select the faces to clear them. Changing the material has no effect on removing the texture.

I want to changed the default visible line weight for all drawings. I just can't get it to work. I have changed my project file settings to "Read-Write", I have tried this in both the Default Standard and my own standard. I changed the "Visible (ANSI)" Line Weight, saved it, then hit "Save" on the Styles and Standards bar. It works for a document. But when I open a new document, the line weight has reverted back to the old value.

I've checked Tools | Options and Export HTML, and searched the forums, but can't find out how to default to either Firefox or Chrome.
Until recently, CorelDraw X3 was working just fine. Now however, whenever I change an object's line or fill attributes, CorelDraw automatically sets those as the new defaults, overriding the defaults I had previously set. Clicking on a a color in the palette with nothing selected no longer invokes the defaults dialogue box.
I've looked through the various options dialogues in case I had inadvertently checked a box I shouldn't have, but I can't find anything. I've been using Draw since version 2, so I'm pretty familiar with it. I've never encountered this behavior before. I've had X3 installed for about 3 years or so.
