Illustrator :: Changing Default Image Tracing Settings?
Oct 3, 2013I am doing image tracing - and when placing it into a recorded action, it only does the default tracing settings. Is there a way to adjust these?

View 1 RepliesI'm working on a project where I will have to do a lot of various scaling using Bilinear resampling. Is there a way to make this the default scaling method in PS CS6 (Mac OS).
I keep on forgetting to switch the scaling method, and thus often have to scale the image twice.
Is it possible to change the default settings of Xara Designer Pro for Units so that whenever a new file is started, it automatically uses the Default Units / Page - Pixels?
Or do I have to change it manually each time?
The current default 'stroke' setting on my PS is 3 pixels/Red...how do I change it?
The stroke setting to which I refer is when I double click a layer and want to surround it with a stroke line of color. I have searched everywhere and can't find where to change the default setting.
I would like to change the default settings for a Radius dimension, Extension value from "On" to "Off".
I have no trouble changing the dimensions one at a time, but that doesn’t change the default value in the template.
I know how to go in to my settings and change the default page settings on a new design, but I want my settings to ALWAYS come up with the settings I change them to. How do I set these so that every time I start Xara I don't have to go change the settings AGAIN?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI use Illustrator CC.I have made a custom Image Tracing Preset and want to use it on a folder containing a sequence of pictures I want all to vectorize automatically. Programming an Action isn't an option as the Action recorder doesn't record which tracing preset is used for image tracing. I found I can use the pre-installed Image Tracing Script [URL] in which I only need to specify the correct number of the Image Tracing Preset. And that became a big problem.

Is the image trace feature any better at tracing scanned business cars and newsprint ads in order to extract a logo? Clients never seem to have clean copy to supply me with.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my laptops to Fedora 17 and Linux Mint 13, which now come with Gimp 2.8. After discovering that Save and Save as are moved to Export to and Export, I tried saving the default export settings for JPG. I usually set the Quality to 80 and make some other adjustments. However, the defaults always revert back no matter how many times I press the Save Defaults button.
Also, is there any way to make Gimp always use the previously selected settings? It seems that even though I set the defaults, with some images I open, edit and attempt to export, it tries to adjust the quality settings again. I just want to always have the defaults I have set for exporting jpg files without having to click an extra button or keyboard shortcut every time I save a file.
I recent installed CS6 and whenever I open an Illustrator file (whether it was created in CS4 or CS6) it always default opens in CS4. How can I get CS6 set as my default without uninstalling CS4?

View 3 Replies View Relatedwhy Photoshop keeps changing settings for placing objects, image size etc.?
For example: I create a new Photoshop document:
ppi: 300
Width: 160 mm
Heigth: 160 mm
after clicking "OK", these go to 160,2 mm or less than 160 mm.
The same with the sizes and places of objects etc. I create a 20 x 20 mm circle. One click later it is 19,89 x 19,89. I set it's location to X: 80 mm, Y: 80 mm. One click later: 80,02mm
Is it possible to change the order of the tools upon a keyboard shortcut press? For example, I want the path eraser, but have to go through the pencil and smooth tools first; is there any way to bring the eraser to the top of that stack or assign it to it's own shortcut?

View 2 Replies View RelatedEverything you read says that to change the default AI (CS3) startup document you use this path:
Users > (User Name) > Library > Application Support > Adobe > Adobe Illustrator CS3 > New Document Profiles > *.ai
The problem is, under Mountain Lion that path doesn't exist. When I go to my user name, there is no "Library" folder at all. Under "Shared" there is an AI Library folder, but it has nothing of any value in it.
My AI startup document (that I've been using for ages) is found here:
HD > Applications > Adobe Illustrator CS3 > Plug-ins > filename.ai
However, if I navigate there and make changes, then quit Illustrator and re-launch it, nothing happens. I'm using the same old defaults as before. I know I need to upgrade to a later version of CS, but the prices have become so outrageous there's no way I can justify it as long as AI and PS are working. You need a mortgage to buy new Adobe products these days.
how I can to reset all the settings back to default settings...

I am considering using GIMP 2.8 on my system with Mac OS X 10.6.8 to do thefollowing:
(1) Digitise a photograph by tracing over parts of it with lines. The photocould be, say, the roots of a tree. The lines would be colour codeddepending on the state of what they are over. I.e. roots in one state getstraced with one colour, while roots in another state would get a differentcolour. In the end I might end up with a bunch of lines, with the differentcolours of lines organised in different layers.
(2) Calculate the relative proportion of lines of a certain colour to thetotal length of all lines.
To do the above, I am wondering if GIMP has the ability to calculate thelength of lines drawn over an image (in, say, number of pixels). This way, Ican obtain the total pixel length all lines put together, and the totalpixel length of, say, just the blue lines.
Do you think GIMP is suitable for this kind of image analyses? Or should Iuse a vector based program like Inkscape?
I've imported a png of a simple black drawing on a man (Like you get on a toilet door) with a transparent background and tried to trace it to a vector but I can not get rid of the white background. i've tried it as a jpeg to see if the trace command would generate two layers one for the main drawing and one for the background that I could delete, but it di dnot. I tried setting the Trace fuction to just outline but that did nto work either.
how to get rid of the background when tracing a simple image or break apart the object to get at the background shape?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've used image trace to trace the outline of a street grid and expanded the trace into paths. However, after doing so, I realized I wanted the streets a bit thicker, so I increased the stroke value.
Is there a way to adjust the old paths to match the new outline? I tried saving it as a .jpg and retracing but the quality was subpar. Any way to "redo" the trace in the original file, or somehow tell Illustrator to move the paths to match the increased stroke? I need them to coincide once more with the edges of the streets. URL...
In CS5 there was an option to use the Live Paint Bucket on a newly traced image and there were also gap options to close gaps when doing this. I do not see these options in CS6. Where are they?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a pen sketch scanned with resolution ~ 7000x5000px 300DPI. When I'm trying to trace the whole image with Illustrator CS6 into b/w, I am losing details overall. Example is on the left side. It's just part of the image.
However, when I tried to isolate a couple small raster pictures from the big one and trace them separately, I got pretty good results comparing to tracing a whole picture. The isolated images are with resolution ~700x800px 300DPI.
The problem is that I can't isolate all elements in sketch then combine after tracing, it's hell lot of work. So my hope is that there is some technique of tracing big images.
i want to do some scanning of drawings of rubble masonry wall in section export it as a dwg file in autocad, and then work and modify in autocad. However when i use the live trace command, the trace is wrongly done. for example there is a straight line having thickness 2 mm.
illustrator traces it as a rectangle having a width 2 mm. what should i do so that a closed circle sketched on a paper scanned into illustrator is traced as a single circle by recognizing the centre of the sketched path rather than 2 concentric circles placed apart at a distance equal to the thickness of my real life graphite pencil .?
