I am using Windows Vista and Illustrator CS4.
I would like to trace this image and I was wondering what the best way is to do that. As you can see I made a small start and not sure if that's the right way to go.
I work on CS3 and have often the problem for the logos the Companies send me in .jpg to convert for their design as a vector file.
With vector magic it works always good to smooth with one click the curves full of pixels into a pixel free curve with clear boundary.
I had a look into the old discussion on this forum and found few things in the discussion "raster image .gif". I would like to get an addon that would be a 1 time buying and cheaper as a complete new investment into a whole soft like vector magic.

What I bring to the software is my background in studio arts 2D and 3D. Photography is a tool to support both of these activities. Over the years that skill has developed and I have many great photos. The photos make me a little nuts now that I focus on digital. In digitals photos I easily have over 60,000 photos. I have some experience with Photoshop. I won’t say I am a proficient but will say I have good skills in it. I created my first logo in Photoshop. Of course it is not vector and I know it should be vector. I did it at no charge for a nonprofit. I would still like to create a vector form of the logo. Awhile back I purchased a book titled “Illustrator CS5 on demand”. It breaks it down in a way that Illustrator is less intimidating. It has renewed my interest in Illustrator. How do I more effectively merge all of these tools and skills? How do I bring what I know to Illustrator’s table? I know there are great possibilities here if I can learn to build vector graphics.
Here I have a vector image. The pink stroke is a cut path that the software I use at work recognises and cuts. (Used for vinyl decals/stickers etc). All the lines highlighted in pink is useless to me, as it would cut out each individual line.
All I need is the outer edge of the entire graphic.
Note my crudely drawn red lines that border the image, that is exactly what I need. As you can see, the paths run through the image. BUT...When I try to erase the paths using add anchor point then cut path at selected anchor points so I can remove that particular segment, the colour essentially "leaks" as it isn't a closed area anymore. Rasterizing the image destroys the quality and I would like to be able to perform this task without loss of quality.
How do I use custom when tracing an image? It doesnt higlight when i roll over it and wont let me use it.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI use Illustrator CC.I have made a custom Image Tracing Preset and want to use it on a folder containing a sequence of pictures I want all to vectorize automatically. Programming an Action isn't an option as the Action recorder doesn't record which tracing preset is used for image tracing. I found I can use the pre-installed Image Tracing Script [URL] in which I only need to specify the correct number of the Image Tracing Preset. And that became a big problem.

We have creating a catalogue of company parts, and they require nice clean crisp images for the brochure. They only seem to be able to create raster images.
If I bring a raster image into Illustrator (CS5.5) and apply an Effect (Angled brush stroke) will the resulting image be a vector or raster?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been creating them in black and white in CS6, then converting to vector via image trace since that's the only way to make them a perfect circular vector that I've found, but how do you convert it to a color afterward? It won't let me simply change the fill color, nor will it let me select the black dots with the white arrow. I had also selected "ignore white" while image tracing so it had a transparent background. ! I'd really like an orange halftone vector, and when I make it a color from the start it creates it out of multiple colors. I want it to be a solid color without any circles overlapping.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI'd like to start utilizing Illustrator more frequently for web and user interface design projects, but I still like taking everything into Photoshop for final rendering and compositing (and the simple fact that most developers want psds, not ai files). However, I find that the only way to successfully transfer all of the vector artwork from Illustrator and preserve it as vector objects in Photoshop (when exporting) is to manually convert every individual vector object in Illustrator to a Compound Shape (by selecting the shape and clicking Make Compound Shape from the Pathfinder palette menu). This can be very tedious if it has to be done after the design is complete, and very inefficient if you convert every object as you draw it.
Is there a way to set Illustrator to automatically create every vector object drawn as a Compound Shape without having to manually convert it?
Adobe Illustrator allows you to export your Illustrator document as a Photoshop document. However, Compound Paths (not Compound Shapes - see this article for not-so-great explanations comparing the two) – which is the default attribute applied to all of Illustrator's basic vector objects – do not convert into vector objects when the exported document is opened in Photoshop. Rather, the vector objects drawn in Illustrator get flattened into raster layers in Photoshop, making them poor candidates for refining the design in Photoshop.

So i dropped the image into illustrator, and made a clipping mask, but if i go to save it, or print it, it tries to print space where the image is, even though it's only inside the vector outline. Kind of confusing with the wording, see pics, but I just want the vector to cut out of the image, and get rid of the rest of the image.

I have drawn up a logo/font (in autocad as thats what i know) and made a pdf from it to send to a printing company that only deals in vector format. i can import the image and get a trace of it but the frames add radii to corners and im having trouble isolating the vector/trace result to make a seperate file from (to send off)

I'm trying to convert this .jpg image into vector for a large print for decoration. The image has poor quality and when I try to use Image Trace the results are not satisfactory. Do you have any tips on what I should do and which tool to use instead? The thing is that I'm trying to skip the effort of drawing the whole image since that would take tons of time.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIn 2011 max design, i was able to create windows (frame, glass etc) in the top view by tracing over imported cad lines. i could then group those components, rotate them 90 degrees to orient them properly, then create a plane at 0" on the z-axis and align that group to the plane in the z-axis min/min. so the rotated window group would rise upward and the bottom of the window group would be at 0" in the z-axis. now, now matter what combination of things i try, i can't get the group to do that. i have to un-group and align each component individually.
I just tried it by creating 3 boxes all smaller than the previously created one and as soon as i group it, the min-min align doesn't work when those 3 boxes are grouped. individualy it work, but then of course the smaller boxes line up at 0 in the z-axis too.

I plan to reuse many images and vector arts I've created. As of now, if I want to reuse an image or vector, i have to oepn the file and copy/paste image vector. Is there a faster way than this? Is there a manager I do not know of?

When I open the image in illustrator I can select the text but not edit it. Removing each piece of the letter distorts the background.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have created vector art in Illustrator 5.5 that is exported as a PNG file at 96 dpi. When we open the PNG file in Photoshop, the image size is larger in Photoshop than it is in Illustrator. Width was 232.8 px on Illustrator document and 233 on Photoshop document. Height was 181.4 px on Illustrator document and 183 on the Photoshop document. If I export as a 72 dpi PNG file then the size does not change. How can I export the image at 96 dpi without changing the size of the image?

Working in CS5.I have a vector image that I need to resize and save as a .png. I first create an artboard to the correct size I need (55x20 pixels), shrink my vector image to fit and then export to .png using the artboard as my boundaries (so that I get the correct size).Problem is, the resulting file is not 55x20, it is 229x83 (when I open in Photoshop). I can't figure out why the file is not saving to the correct size.
I have also tried opening the file in photoshop and resizing down, but that doesn't work either. My image becomes very distorted.I don't generally work in pixels or pngs...what would be the best program and process to do this. It doesn't seem like it should be so difficult, but for some reason it is!
I am experiencing image distortion with vector shapes or outlined letters with scale down. Shift + Alt + Click locks in the proportions of the image as a whole but what happens is individual letters/shapes become distorted resulting in a completely different look.

But when I try and select parts of the vector is just selects the entire image in a single big box.
How can I break it apart so that the individual vector parts and be copied, pasted, edited and so on?
