View 1 Replies View RelatedHow can I tell which version of Illustrator my .ai file was created in? If I try to open it in a new version of Illustrator it just tells me it was created with an "older version". I need to know which version, as I'm being told by a programmer that I need to update all my Illustrator 9 .ai files. I need a way to identify them.

The garmet pattern was created in the CAD progrom PAD.
PAD exports .dxf and .txt files. The dxf file imports into AI as text and code. The .txt file is unusable. It's scale is skewed and important information is missing from the file.
I'm working in AI 5.5 on a Mac. I've imported .dxf files from other cad progrms like Optitex no problem.
PAD exports .dxf AAMA. I need to import this into AI, and the AI forums say Illustrator can read .dxf files.
A client sent an Illustrator CS6 file to me that I can't open, even though I am also on CS6. He is on a PC and has v 17.0. I am on a Mac with v 16.2.1. I don't see an update higher than that for Mac. Does he need to backsave the file to CS5?
View 3 Replies View Related~ I want to purge the color yellow from autocad. ~
Is it possible to override all the colors of an existing *.DWG to a Monochrome Format? I want to be able to open any autocad file and veiw everything in black and white IN MODEL SPACE.
I am not interested in 'changing layer colors' or 'manually changing blocks to the right color.' Right now, I explode the entire drawing (several times depending on how deep something is grouped) and change the color to by layer, but sometimes blocks become contaminated and lose all their data. (In addition, I am not interested in plotting in Monochrome.)
If this task is impossible, is it possible to change the definition of the color "yellow." What I mean by the previous statement is to trick autocad into thinking it is using 'yellow' when it is actually using a different color. Sort of like an induced color blindness.
SUMMARY: I don't want to change a color FROM yellow, I just don't want yellow TO EXIST.
I create a new illustrator document (Illustrator CS5 - v15.1.0), in that document I create a rectangle with the rectangle tool (fill: white; stroke: black); I save the document (.ai-format; create pdf compatible file active). The file size messures 3.2 Mb. Why is that? It's just a simple rectangle with 4 points…

View 9 Replies View RelatedI created a file in Illustrator CS6 (v. 16.0.0), and saved it as an (editable) PDF. When I try to reopen that same PDF inside Illustrator CS6, however, I get a "Could Not Open The File" error. The file opens in Acrobat just fine, but I need to continue editing/working on it. Opening it in 5.1 works but it's all flat and not ideal for editing. Renaming the extension to .eps or .ai didn't work, either. I also looked into potential font conflicts (none) and restarted my Mac (OS 10.7.5) to no avail.
View 1 Replies View RelatedHow can I view an AI file created on a MAC on a PC without corrupting the original fonts? An AI file was created with an image and text on a MAC. When the AI file was opened on a PC, the text fonts were not the same as originally created. Also, the same AI file was saved to PDF on the MAC. When the AI file was opened on a PC, there wasn't anything visible.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've created an image file in Illustrator and exported it as a .png file. The dimensions are 1000x200 but when I export it the file size changes and becomes bigger. I therefore have to change the file size in Fireworks making sure that the quality is kept as Photoshop does not do it for me. Previously when I exported the files the backgrounds appeared transparent after saving but maybe I've changed a setting by accident that has changed this. I'm selecting the 'Save as' and Flattened png option at 32bit in FW.

I am trying to get the white background changed to yellow to match the web page. I have followed the instructions in the GIMP manual for bucket fill, Foreground Select Tool, edit>fill with fg or bg color. Nothing works. The only color I can get is black when the fg/bg option is black. In the toolbox I have changed both fg and bg to yellow. Still no change. I would like to change a new canvas to the yellow bg color and then copy and paste my image onto it.

I want to cut the part of the yellow rectangle off the circle. Easy peasy with Photoshop: Layer 1 for the blue circle, Layer 2 for the rectangle, Layer 1 Control + click, then Layer 2, invert selection, delete.
Of course I can delete nodes and adapt the shape to the curve, but I don't know how to cut the figure quickly in Illustrator.
