I have recently downloaded a .stp file of an AOD pump from a manufacturers website. Once I imported it into Inventor the appearance is a rust color and all features have a yellow outline. I am able to insert into a main assembly but I have not found a way to change the color or get rid of the yellow outline. See attached screen print.
View 9 RepliesI have been given several drawings to perform FEA analysis. These files are solidworks files, but my school does not have the FEA package so I had to export the files to a .stp file to import it into Inventor.
On top of that, the SolidWorks file I need to analyze is an assembly, so I 'saved as' the assembly in Solidworks as a part to have one solid part.
The file seems to import fine at first, I can create sketches onto faces. But when I go to create an analysis, and try to set a fixed point or force load, I cannot select a face. I tried to "cheat" and add some material to the faces I wanted to use. When I run the analysis, it just doesn't recognize the initial material in the 'mesh'.
I CANNOT include full screenshots of the system, due to the nature of the project. I can show small clipped shots of the software status, but not the drawing itself. If seeing the "model" box on the left would work, I can supply that with the drawing names blacked out.
When I import a step file, the color/texture of the step file has gone way off from expected.
Before, the same model used to be gray, now most models have got a green pcb texture, and there seems to be no way to correct it in the model/solid properties.
A colleague and I are working on a large assembly together, and we have received several .stp files from a customer (originally created in ProE), many of which are sheet metal that need to be unfolded and flat patterns made in drawings. The sheet metal default thickness has been changed to what the material thickness is. We have measured the edges on each side of and the radii of the bends, and they all appear to be consistently uniform. Yet, we get an error when trying to unfold or flatten the outer two bends. The customer sent us a flat pattern .stp file as well after letting them know we could not unfold the part, and there are many dimensions that we have to manually inserted to the drawing with the flat file because it does not have the bend information in it.
Is there something that we are missing to make this part unfold all the way?

Got a part from our vendor. When I place this in an idw, some of the lines are missing.
In the model, there are no surfaces. None of the solids failed on the import. No problems appear in the model browser.
First tried turning on Tangent edges in the idw. No joy there.
When I right click on the view in the idw and select "Include All Surfaces", the edges are shown while the view is computing, but after it computes, the edges are gone again. The .step file that was sent to me is 10MB and the ipt is 32MB.

I have imported an IGES file in Inventor and I need to dimension and detaill the piece in a 2D drawing. The thread and hole wizard does not recognize the holes in the workpiece as holes. Also I sectional view does not display hatched areas of the workpiece even though I have the display option checked on. Is there any sort of feature recognition within Inventor that I can use to import all geometry so that inventor understands?
I am working with 2011 Pro and have about 1500 hours on the program so far.
I was considering redrawing the workpiece by creating a part within an assembly and overlaying the two pieces on top another and using refernece geometry but this might not be the most ideal method.
Why can’t Inventor Fusion save an imported STP file as a Inventor part?

In a test assembly I can get the offsetting to work, but not the rotations. The part I want to edit origin of is rotated in all three axis.
We need a macro that will allow you to select a certain color fill inside document and change all to no fill hairlines. It needs to be capable of doing it several times within the same document. Does anything like this exist out there?
We have color replacer. We want it to do this automactically with a static group of colors everytime without any manual maniplulation required.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I am trying to make any shapes on my computer...even just a closed triangle with the LINE TOOL...when I come back tot he starting point to close the triangle, the dot neer turns green. Not even if I am directly on top of it. Is there some setting that got changed accidentally, that is causing this?
It works on my computer at work, just not my laptop. Others I know have the same laptop and recieved the same install...and it works for them.
We just upgraded Inventor from 2013 to 2014.
I opened a model generated in previous releases and noticed that there were parts with a strange yellow highlight.
Turns out the parts aren't explicitly highlighted, it's just that their edges are yellow. See the screenshot below.
I usually work in the 'Shaded with Edges' view style. I found that if the view style is changed to 'Shaded' or 'Realistic', the yellow disappears with the edges.
The only parts the yellow edges seem to affect are ones generated as surfaces. I would like to know how to turn the yellow off is possible. So far I've tried changing the part appearance in the toolbar and changing the surface body properties in the model tree; neither method worked.
Now I don't model in surfaces, but there have been purchased parts imported into Inventor that have in the past ended up as surfaces, and it's these parts that have the highlight. I haven't noticed anything like this in previous releases.

I added an image to a sketch successfully but it cam with a yellow line around it (see attached) and I can't remove it. In the sketch properties I was able to change it's color to black to make less visible but it's still there.

I have an assembly (A) that has a subassembly (B) that has a pattern of subassemblies (C's) that consist of many parts (D, E, F, G & H). The parts (DEFGH) are steel and have their own drawings. They do and should look like steel.
They are welded together as an assembly (C). This will be painted bright yellow. I wish to assign a yellow appearance to the subassembly, not affecting the parts. Last, when I open the upper assemblies (A or B), I expect C to have the painted color. I cannot make this work in Inventor 2013.
I can assign appearances to parts DEFGH. No error there. I can NOT assign appearances to assemblies (C). The only thing I see in the Appearance box is "Favourites" and "Inventor Material Library".
I can individuall select and highlight parts DEFGH inside the assembly C and assign an appearance to them. Sort of a work-around, but...
...this is not carried through to upper assemblies (A or B). If I just open them, all items are steel-colored, not yellow. If choose to edit one of the patterned C's inside B, only that instance is colored. None of the others in the pattern.
I must thus expand every instance in the pattern and highlight every part and set an appearance. But this is still not carried through to A. Or any of several other assemblies that also contain B.
Thus, if I want a persistent coloring, I either have to "paint" the individual parts, or I will have to scour up each and every assembly and "paint" every part inside them.
Is there really no way to assign an appearance to an assembly and have it carried through automatically to all assemblies that contain it? Like in every other solid modeler I have ever used?

I have an interesting problem. I have imported a shp file from a state agency. This file contains contours for an area. When I tag the pline, it shows a "zero" elevation, but shows a numeric elevation within the DXF_ELEV feature.I am needing to convert these to pline with elevation to work on in autocad. how to get polyline w/ elevations to export from c3d?

I am using autocad 2013 student and also tried opening it on other computers with the same result.

I have imported a DEM file, and changes all of my pipe networks to reference this final grade. But all of the pipes I have placed do not reference this surface, but all of the networks do. Other than changing all of the pipes individually (which is what I have started to do through Pipe Properties) is there a quicker and easier way to have all of the pipes reference my new surface, and also is there a quicker way to apply my rules to this new surface other than the same way (through Pipe Properties changing my rules, and right click to apply rules).

However, my question is when the points are adjusted within the AutoCAD file is there a way for this adjustment to link back into the imported point file. I've used "Connect to Data" to attach a .shp file export from another software, specifically a Windmill computer model. The geometry and data comes through, but the table contains no coordinates, which is what my vendor wants. The drawing overlay's georeference info very closely (within our tolerances) and the Coordinate System is set.

i want to import dxf into my sketch, and than Extrude shape to make a box. I cannot do this because Inventor says that he can find closed regions. Dxf is made in adobe illustrator.

Its is a drawing contaning tanks and pipeworks.I have looked into the drawing and have noticed that all the parts are 3d solids. The file size is over 100mb which makes the drawing impossible to work on.
Resolving the file size issue? Maybe converting all the solids to blocks?
I will be able to have access to the original inventor file and possibly try exporting smaller parts of the site and xref only the relevent parts of the site as required for each drawing if that makes sense.
See sample drawing. My dilemma is the outlined dimensions and labels. Normally they come out solid.
Current Conditions: there 3D objects in the drawing, I have dimensioned in model space, and I have set the VP Shade Plot to "Legacy Hidden".
Ideas on making the dimension ticks, arrows and font solid again?
