I'm using an embedded ACAD, and getting half-finished field-to-finish dwgs from a sub-contractor. I'm having a hard time getting his lineweights to conform to the output needed.
View 6 RepliesAfter reviewing many similar topics, I am still at a loss here. We are finding that the settings for using shift to deselect items seem to be changing within individual drawing files.
I open 2 drawing files. In one, the shift/deselect works fine, but in the other is does not deselect anything...
Further - within the non-working drawing file, the option to activate 2 hotpoints on a line and then stretch that line no longer works either.
Like everyone dealing with these shift/select/deselect issues, we are wasting an extreme amount of time trying to resolve issues that never seemed to be issues with past versions.
I realize it may be a Civil3D question. When I change my drawing scale in the "Drawing Settings" dialog box to 1"=40', for example. The Annotative scale in the Properties Palette changes to 1"=40'_XREF.
View 2 Replies View RelatedHow to change the settings (if it has) for opening another drawing. because for example I opened an autocad file, and again i want to open another file, when I opened another file it will not display in the same window which I first opened, it is very hard for me to put my mouse pointer on the taskbar to choose that drawing and again return in another drawing, better if using the windows button inside the autocad. here is the image just to be clear on what i am trying to ask.

I have imported an IGES file in Inventor and I need to dimension and detaill the piece in a 2D drawing. The thread and hole wizard does not recognize the holes in the workpiece as holes. Also I sectional view does not display hatched areas of the workpiece even though I have the display option checked on. Is there any sort of feature recognition within Inventor that I can use to import all geometry so that inventor understands?
I am working with 2011 Pro and have about 1500 hours on the program so far.
I was considering redrawing the workpiece by creating a part within an assembly and overlaying the two pieces on top another and using refernece geometry but this might not be the most ideal method.
Im looking to make a simple ilogic rule that can toggle an option in the document settings, the setting I would like to change is the Document settings> Modeling> Participate in assembly and drawing sections
I would like a form to switch the option on and off quickly, its a really usefull function however I know a few of my colleagues wont use if they cant find it easly.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently switched from Civil 3D 2012 to 2013 student version because when I initially installed the program I probably messed up some of the settings that I shouldn't have for my entire application. After reinstalling it, I noticed that the program seems to run just fine but the settings for the original file I'm trying to work with remain, such as label settings, linescales, etc.
I want my drawing to match the settings of new drawings when it comes to labels, scales, and anything else I might have changed. Is there a way to apply these settings to my original file? If not, is there a way to at least make sure the label styles can be reset? I don't want any changes to the settings I made to be present in my file.
I can't remember how to import a ctb file into my plot settings for a drawing?
View 9 Replies View RelatedRecently we have discovered a problem (bug?) with the survey database. We usually import our field data from our Trimble controllers into the survey database (SDB) through Trimble Link. We have been very careful to get all the survey database settings right, so that the data comes through correctly and have been successful up until the last few weeks. We find this a good workflow, where we are able to make edits to our field data (change target heights etc) easily in the SDB and comparisons with Trimble Business Center and direct output on-screen in the controller confirm that our data is reliable. We often have both GPS (long Network RTK vectors from the nearest network base station) and total station observations in the same file.
The issue is that, as the fbk file is imported, the survey database settings change to reflect the content of the fbk file. The "Atmospheric conditions" and "Curvature and Refraction" settings, which I have purposely left unticked (the controller applies these corrections), become ticked. This throws out our heights, especially on the long GPS lines.
We do have the option for a workaround, which involves going back into the Edit Survey Database Settings after import and updating the data in the sdb, but this is clumsy.
This seems to be similar to the issue that was discussed here. However, we have only just encountered this issue in the past month or two, which coincides with when we rolled out C3D 2012 Service Pack 4 across the office. We are planning on implementing 2014 soon, so I have tried it out on 2014 as well, with the same result.
Is this something that others are dealing with too? Perhaps there's some sneaky setting somewhere that I haven't found which locks down the SDB settings preventing them from being changed on import? Otherwise, I think this is a bug.
I am also bracing myself for some comments regarding the dangers of using GPS in the SDB!
Civil 3D 2012 SP4
I built a new computer, Windows 8, 64 bit.
Installed Acad LT 2011 64 bit.
Did an export of custom settings from a Windows 7 64 bit LT 2011 installation, imported those to the new Windows 8 LT 2011 installation. This was done using the Start>Programs menu. (I ditched the "Metro" stuff.)
The setup looks mostly the same, but when I go to use it, the icons don't match the commands. I have toolbars down the left and right sides with many icons. The icon for Hatch runs the Polygon command. The Move icon runs the Offset command. Lots of them are screwed up.
The ribbon commands along the top seem to be OK.
What is the best way to change a large number of file names from Rev A to Rev B? Should I use a program such as Lupas rename or is there a Script or Lisp routine that would work better?

(ie. - complex plate, but one part uses threaded holes, while an identical one has through holes, with all holes in the same location). So before now I would have built one part, made my drawing file. Then Copy/paste the part file into the same assembly folder, edit the hole feature of the newly copied part, then have to create an entirely new drawing file for the new copied part.
Is there a way to just copy my already created part drawing, and then just change the part file it used? They are basically the same part, but one uses threaded holes, the other uses through holes. My current way seems redundant and time wasting.
I am not able to change the color of a layer in one of my drawing files. When I make a new layer in the drawing file it is the same color as the layer above it (as it should be) but I am unable to change the color in the new layer either.
I can change colors in other drawing files on this computer. The color of a layer can be changed if I open the drawing file on another computer.
If the drawing is "save as" to a new file name and the new drawing is opened, it still will not change the color of a layer.
If the drawing is "save as" on the computer that will allow the color to be change and opened on this computer it will not allow the color of the layer to be changed.
I’m a long time Photoshop user but recently picked up LR4 to try to fine tune my workflow. I’ve noticed that after importing new files (RAW, I haven’t tried with jpg) into my library as I scroll through them (1-up, not in grid) the preview comes up and then after a second or so the WB changes to a much colder image.
Does LR4 initially preview at specific settings and then change to the individual image settings? Even if so, the final images seem very cool and I feel like I have to up the temp more than I should have to. My previous workflow was to sort in Bridge and then use ACR to import to Photoshop. I feel like I did much less tweaking of my WB this way. I feel like I’m starting from square one with LR4.
I am editing an existing block to change the lineweight and have tried using the REFEDIT command as well as double clicking the block to take me into the block editor and making my changes there. I am sucessfully able to edit my block and make the changes using both of these methods. Where I am running into an issue is that the block I have edited only retains its new settings within the drawing that I changed it in. If I insert that same block into a new drawing I have to re-edit the block again the make the changes that I want. Why are my blocks not retaining their settings from drawing to drawing.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a STEP file which is of a part similar to the rudder of a boat or an oar blade but twisted at the end, and I have to draw the split line to match the profile of the blade. I imagine I have to use a 3D sketch because of the twist and we are guessing that the split line will run down the apex of the blade, but I don't know how to get the 3D sketch to "stick" to the apex (there is no real apex as it's curved).

But how do I select the right orientation on import? The default Inventor view is a sideview and won't work on a plan.
Right now it seems like I either have to go into 3D model view and rotate the object or have to change the orientation Inventor for plan and then reorientate it for section...
When I import shape files the polylines will not take the layer style I move them to. They stay a continuous linetype. Linetype and Lineweight is set to ByLayer. Only difference between the new lines and the lines drawing correctly is the lines that stay continuous are 3D polylines and the correct ones are normal polylines. What I need to do to make the imported lines accept my layer linetypes?

The 'brush defenition' turns back to 'basic' and the 'variable width profile' back to 'uniform'. It would save me a lot of time if I could change those standard settings into what I prefer.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been given several drawings to perform FEA analysis. These files are solidworks files, but my school does not have the FEA package so I had to export the files to a .stp file to import it into Inventor.
On top of that, the SolidWorks file I need to analyze is an assembly, so I 'saved as' the assembly in Solidworks as a part to have one solid part.
The file seems to import fine at first, I can create sketches onto faces. But when I go to create an analysis, and try to set a fixed point or force load, I cannot select a face. I tried to "cheat" and add some material to the faces I wanted to use. When I run the analysis, it just doesn't recognize the initial material in the 'mesh'.
I CANNOT include full screenshots of the system, due to the nature of the project. I can show small clipped shots of the software status, but not the drawing itself. If seeing the "model" box on the left would work, I can supply that with the drawing names blacked out.
is it possible to change a 'flat' drawing into an isometric type of drawing? I currently have an end view of an item that I need to draw in isometric, but it's fairly detailed with curves etc and will take a long time to draw again from scratch in isometric...

I have a spreadsheet and iLogic driven mater assy to generate different iterations.
I would like to change the scale of a base view on a drawing based on a parameter in my assembly. The idea is to get iLogic to change the view using a simple If / Else statement.
This is what I tried:
If Parameter("0 Generic Assembly v2.2.iam.BP") < 1570 Then
ActiveSheet.View("VIEW1").Scale = 1/8

ActiveSheet.View("VIEW1").Scale = 1/10
EndIf
So basically the value of "BP" parameter (excel parameter in my assy) would drive the scale of the views. But its not working. Is it actually a sensible method? Can I use in the drawing environment the excel parameters in my assembly?
This is the error message I get when the rule is run:
"Error in rule: View Scale, in document: 0 Generic Assembly v2.2.idw
Unspecified error (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80004005 (E_FAIL))"
Also using the same thinking I use iLogic to populate the drg number field on the drawing based on an excel parameter. The rule works but does not always updates the drawing no upon the parameter change or update/rebuild commands.
