Illustrator :: CS6 - Could Not Find The Linked File
Dec 5, 2013Why do I get "could not find the linked file" when opening a file in CS6 that has no such problem when opened in CS4?
View 3 RepliesWhy do I get "could not find the linked file" when opening a file in CS6 that has no such problem when opened in CS4?
View 3 RepliesI have been using adobe for 4 years and I have never had this issue. Anytime I create a new design and save and then try to re-open it ( after I have moved logo or background pic I used to a new folder) it gives me this error. It also does it if I try to open up something on my computer at home.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have purchased new iMac's to replace our current 5 year old Mac pros. So we decided that instead of reinstalling CS5.5, which was what was installed on the Mac Pros , we would got straight to Creative Cloud
Now, If an ai file that was previously created on the Mac Pro in CS5.5 with linked images(stored on a shared folder on a Windows 2008 server) , when that ai file is opened on the iMac in Illustrator CC, we get the error "Could not find the linked file. Choose Replace to select another file or ignore to leave the link unchanged". If you click ignore, when you check the link path for the missing images , the path is blank.
I wonder why image that imported to illustrator be linked, not included to Ai files like coreldraw does.In my office, other computers, their illustrator could read the linked image even the image file has moved to other folder..Why my illustrator CS5 couldn't recognized it? is there any setting I should change?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have to reuse a old ai file with a linked file and make some modification. But I don't need the linked file in my revised ai file.
how to delete the linked file, so that I need not to click "ignore" button on the pop-up box of reminding me unable to find the linked file when I open the new ai file each time.
Recently, I am working with illustrator CS6.
After inserting quite a lot of linked images (without embedding), the file size becomes much larger, up too nearly 400MB.
I saved without pfd compatible function already, but the file size is sill very large. I did not face the same problem working with CS5 before, is that a bug for CS6?
I´m having this problem:
I created and array to receive linked filed (let´s say var pItem = app.activeDocument.placedItems;)
After it, I used a loop to know the File each link is associated. So:
for (var g=0; g<pItem.length;g++){
var src = pItem.file >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The problem is here. If we have a missing link in the document, the script will stop with the message.
... continue procedure
};
Of Course, I could try using an "try" statement...but..Just to know: Is there any way to evaluate the status of a placedItem (to know if it´s missing or not)?? In the user manual I did not find any property that checks for this. We have properties to check for bounds, matrix, notes, tags, if it´s locked, visible...but not for checking the consistency of a placedItem, right?
I cant seem to snap to guide intersections when a linked jpeg file is visible. It works fine when I turn off the visibility of the layer the file is on but I am trying to "trace" over the image with line segments. I know that I have been able to do this in the past but for some reason it is not working now. Im sure that I have accidentally changed something but don't know what.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am making a holiday greeting card. I have 16 very larged photo images "linked" (not embedded) into the card. The original images are very large (e.g. 4500 x 3000 px, 10mb) but I've placed them fairly small in the final card (only about 2" x 2" printed). Therefore, I likely don't need the full resolution of the original photos. I need to generate a final file that I can send to an online print shop, something that is ideally 10-25Mb in size, probably pdf. How to prepare the final file for export to pdf to generate as such? Right now, the final file is 275Mb because it is embedding the full size of each of the 16 images.
I'm on Illustrator CS6 on Mac.
My designer has created an Illustrator file on his Mac that has linked images. When he sends me the all the files and I open the ai file in Illustrator CC on my Windows PC, I need to re-link the images. One image can't be found at all.
However, if I open the file in CS4 it finds the linked files no problem.
Is this some bug in Illustrator CC for Windows?
I have linked a food service RVT model that has 1000+ pieces of specialty equipment. I've copy/pasted the tags from their file to mine. Now I want to be able to type in a tag number and have revit 'zoom to it'. Or I'd like to be able to make a schedule and use 'Highlight' option - but nothing seems to work because the elements are in a linked file.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was given a complex children's logo (below) in AI format. When placing it in ID, I started getting resolution warnings. After some digging, it turns out that the person who created this used images instead of gradients for only some of the objects. I'm not sure why someone would do this instead of just creating the gradients in AI. However, I now need to find and replace all these images. Is there an easy way to locate the images?

I am looking for, or how to get vector files. Mainly, a world map vecotr file. I'm hoping to take this file into Illustrator, manipulate it, and create a logo.
what I would like to do. Something similar to the world map with little airplanes flying routes.
I have been using an AI template to produce a lot of art as SVGs. The source Illustrator file has a bottom art layer, and several layers above that (6) which have a small PNG image that is basically a simple gray button. The same PNG is shown as embedded 6 times and then saved out as an SVG with the options of Profile: SVG 1.1; Type: Convert to outline; Image Location: Embed; CSS Properties: Presentation Attributes; Decimal Places: 3; Encoding: Unicode (UTF-8) and Include XMP is checked.
Some of these resulting files have since stopped working, and upon opening, display the error "Could not find link "05AE065BE.png".
The file is not linked, and the requested file name is generated randomly. The file shows no gray button PNGs, just the empty sublayer that they are on.
I've gone round and round on how this is happening, and have only found information on file character limits and even file path character limits, and server character limits. The file name of the embedded PNG is 27 characters, and the crazy file path and file name totals 137 characters.
Why would an embedded file be causing a linking error and random renaming of the embedded file? And also, why is it only happening on some of the files and not all of them? They are built identically within minutes and batch processed!
I've been sent a logo in a .eps file and I need to edit. However I can't see what font type has been used!
View 5 Replies View RelatedI work in prepress. I have an Illustrator CS6 file that is made up of 3 Pantone Spot colors. I save the file as an eps from Illustrator and rip the file with our prepress software. When previewing the ripped file with our prepress software it shows me that I have process colors (CMYK) somewhere in the file. I can not see these colors visually in the ripped file so I go back to Illustrator to see if I can edit them out of the file. I use the Preview Separations tool but can't find those process colors anywhere. There are no placed images, everything is vector art. I double check any white color and make sure it doesn't have any tiny percentage of process color in it. I make sure my spot colors are indeed spot colors and not process colors. I add used colors, I delete unused colors. I can't find the CMYK being used anywhere in my Illustrator file. How to clean up these "hidden" colors? This was also a problem in CS3. I'm using an iMac 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5, Mac OS X, Version 10.7.5
View 4 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to write an Illustrator (CS4) script that would find and replace 2 instances of text using the actual file name to supply the changing text?
Our current file naming system uses a Part Number, Catalog Number and Run Date. (example: 123456_ABCDEF_2014 JN)We are currently saving a master file as the new Part Number and simply doing 2 separate find and replace functions for the Catalog Number and Run Date. Unfortunately we have over 500 parts to change and thought we could narrow down the 1000 find and replace to just 500. Although this may not appear like such a time saver, the key factor would mean entering the changing data just once per file, minimizing errors and eliminating proof reading the actual file.
Here is what I have used for a simple find and replace script, but I cannot seem to find any information to connect the file name data.
[code]
var active_doc = app.activeDocument;
var search_string = /ABCDEF/gi; // g for global search, remove i to make a case sensitive search
var replace_string = "GHIJKL";
var text_frames = active_doc.textFrames;
var search_string2 = /1234 XX/gi; // g for global search, remove i to make a case sensitive search
var replace_string2 = "5678 YY";
[code]....

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I try 'placing' an image into a AI document, it appears to be embedding the file [be it a psd, tiff, jpeg etc]. Why would it of stopped linking the file?
I spotted this because in my Layers palette it says 'image' or the file name next to the thumbnail, as appose to 'Linked File' like it always has done. And in my Links palette, I've got the odd looking icon [I'm not sure what it is] on the RHS. Why would AI be embedding the placed files all of a sudden, have I clicked something?
I link an excel spreadsheet of text into my .idw files and I constantly have this issue where the text is crowded (see attached). I've tried changing the font, etc. but nothing seems to work. Every once in a while if I move the linked sheet within the .idw it corrects itself.

I am working with the animation sequence where I have a video file linked to the object (camera moving through the room showing a TV screen on the wall with a move playing on the TV screen, the movie is linked .mov file). When I make the rendering using the BB everything works fine if I just use one server (the one where I have the main max installation, where all the maps and linked items are located). As soon as I try to use other BB servers in the network I get the error message referring to the linked .mov file. I have the Include Maps ticked in the Network Job Assignment window and if I change .mov video file to static image like. jpg the network rendering works without problems. How and where the .mov video should be set to get the BB network rendering to work correctly in distributed rendering.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWe're running Illustrator CS4 across a suite of 12 Macs on OS X 10.6.8. Over the last couple of weeks, several accounts have been hit with the same problem, that linking an image in an Illustrator document will not show the images, but just a bounding box. The link information is correct, but I've found no way of getting the image to show, aside from embedding it. Furthermore, saving a document in this state will cause Illustrator to crash when trying to reopen the document.
We use network accounts for the Macs, so all installs are local on each machine, but users access their profile directly from our server. Therefore, all links reference a location on our network and not the local drive. However, there does not seem to be anything wrong with the installs as the issue is with accounts and not the individual client. Once the issue occurs for a user, it occurs on any Mac they log into, while unaffected users can use any Mac without issue.
Our network has run in this state for a year now and the problem has only surfaced recently. I've tried clearing user's preference files relating to Illustrator, but this has had no effect. It's also random when creating a new user on the network, as some will have the issue and others not, despite all being created with the same set of default preferences.
I have an illy file that has several "linked" images.
Some of these I wanted to keep and have embedded.
However, I would like to delete two in particular...which the images are no longer available or desired. But I see no way to do this.
I have tried to go to outline mode/wireframe view... and there are no boxes indicating where these images should go...so I can't delete those.
The two images that Illy keeps asking for when I open the file have a red ? to the right of the image names.
How can I permanently get rid of these?
I created a document with linked images. (png and psd files). Although all pathes and filenames are the same and even when i klick on edit original files i se them in photoshop i do not see them in illustrator. even if they are on top level.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI linked a revit file of some renovations that had been done into an older revit file. This worked fine accept it did not transfer the room data over. When i try to put new rooms in they take the volume of the older rooms not the renovation imports. Why? Why? and why?
Even if I draw out the rooms when i place the room they are still separated and defined by the older room dimensions. Thats not cool that is sad?
Best way to quickly paint materials on the surfaces of a linked file? We need it for documentation of our interiors. Paint does not work through to the linked surfaces.

I have a AI file and it is a map. On this map I have Interstate and Highway road sign icons that were created in AI. When I place a new AI file icon, resize it, and then embed the AI file a stroke outline appears around the road icon and thus making the icons very ugly. If I place it and leave the icon alone and then embed it the file is fine. its only after I re-size it.
I am using AI CC 17.1 . When I embed the image I can’t find the option to un-embed the file. I used to be able to do that with Ai 6. is this a bug in CC?
I have an illustrtor documcnet which is one quater of the size it will be printed at (50 * 12.5 cm up to 2 * 0.5 m).
It is at one quater on request of the company printing the banner. It has a high res texture image (embedded) on the babk layer and the rest is all vectors.
When the image is printed (and scaled up 400% in the process) will the high res image be printed at the highest resolution available? If not is there an easy way to scale my artboard guides, all objects and effects up by 400%.
I have a workflow where I will link a few PSD's and the other designers can modify the PSD files in Photoshop while I'm working on different content in the AI file. This allows us to work simultaneously and be more efficient with time, since my AI edits aren't dependant on them fixing up the images - it works great.
What I really need is to link an AI file and be able to snap to points on it while I'm creating a separate AI file - The linked AI isn't changing much but I need to see any updates made to it so I can adjust my AI accordingly - but it requires precision and I have to be able to snap to points/edges.
I've wanted this since Illustrator 10 and I can't believe there's no possible way to link to an AI or PDF and be able to just snap to the points, obviously AI knows about the points and lines, the linked content scales and is vector based. By default I can see the AI file but it has the "X" over it and all I can snap to are the edges/corners of the box it's placed in. This doesn't work for me and I have a hard time believing I'm the first person in the world to want to do a simultaneous workflow. I don't want to be able to edit the linked AI at all, just snap to its points.
