I scanned and live traced a drawing of mine. I want to add color to make it a proper vector illustration for example:
But when I try and change the colour of the outline of say the skin, this changed the outline of everythign else (hair, clothes) because the lines are all joined. How do I only change the colour of the outlines surrounding certain areas?
I have traced an image and expanded it. I'm now trying to add the scribble effect to it but it does not work. I assume it's because it's not an object but I'm new to illustrator so I'm not sure.

Is it possible to change the black fill color on an image that has been traced using the silhouette option?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have to design some things that will be fairly complex and also completely symmetrical. if there's anyway to have Illustrator automatically mirror something as i draw it, how the object is coming along big picture-like. I know this is possible in 3d programs I've used like 3DS max, but not sure about Illustrator. Or is there another CAD type program they'll do it that I could then import into illustrator?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am new to Illustrator - I am scanning simple components on a technical drawing. These are line drawings - closed contours (for example, the outline of the cross-section of an aircraft wing). I am attempting to use Illustrator to convert the jpg scan to vector form - am saving the result as a .dwg file. I am then importing this into SolidWorks where I am attempting to extrude the form of the component prior to 3D printing.
In Illustrator I am using live trace to create the vector representation. However I'm finding that the vector representation appears to take the form of a number of segmented vector representations. As a result, in SolidWorks I can obviously not extrude the component.
Are there are additional steps within Illustrator that I should be using so as to clean up/unify the vector representation?
I am attempting to edit a scanned abstract drawing where many of the colors are similar, resulting in them printing as all the same shade of red. I am attempting to change some of the reds to have a greater degree of shading. I am aware that I can probably do this using masks and RGB tweaking; but it occurred to me that I can also use a drawn shape and color fill with transparency to change the shade. This worked very well; but it caused one problem I don't know how to solve.
The image I am editing is intended to be uploaded to a website named Zazzle that takes your artwork and puts it on their products. This includes anything from notecards to canvases, to clothing, to shoes, etc., etc. Customers browse the site to find products and images they like. I also have a free webpage on the site where I can promote the sale of these items with my artwork on them.
The image must be a high resolution preferably png file which can be resized greatly for the canvases or left as is for notecards and the like.
While experimenting with the size of my image, I discovered that the edits I performed stay the same size while the rest of the image increases. Is it possible to make the edited shapes part of the scanned image so they will increase and decrease with the rest of the image?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to add color to my content center parts. For example I want all M10 hex head bolts to be red and all M12 hex heads to be blue.
I have My library configured in content center and I take from the "Inventor ANSI" catalog the "Heavy Hex Bolt -Metric" and right click and copy to my library. I switch the sort back to merged view and right click on the "Heavy Hex Bolt - Metric" and select family table. I scroll to the end of the table and insert a new column and set the "Column Name" To "Color" and set the "Column Caption" to "Color" , "Map to Inventor Property:" is set to "Member.Color"
Now going back to the family table I have to enter simple color names like, Red, Green, or Black, I cannot enter names like Water Bubbles, Particle Board, or any of the Inventor Apperance names. If you do you will recive an error on placing the part stating " Unable to create componet"
Futhermore when you click on the Material Column you get a drop down of all the different materials.
Why do I not get a similiar drop down for the colors/apperances?
What is the list of working colors names?
Is it possible on illustrator or any other programs you know of?
I've tried using the live paint bucket but it won't color in the sections the way I want.
It is a very complex sketch and it's going to take forever if I try to trace it all with vectors.

View 3 Replies View RelatedOn the main sheet of my drawing I have the overall Parts List. Shows almost all parts except for the few that we don't want to list. On the second sheet I inserted a Parts List to show only parts that are shown in a detail on that page, made the rest non-visible.
On the main sheet there is an item (#13) that has a QTY of 3. Two of those Three are optional parts. What I'm trying to do is insert a custom part into the Parts List, give it an item number of 13A and put in the description "OPTIONAL", then do an Override in the balloon to show 13A.
I get it in the Parts List, Apply it, close it, save the drawing. Looking at the Parts List, item #13A is there, but item #14 is gone. I go back into the Parts List and 13A is there and there's a blue box around the item # and the description. I uncheck Static Value and number 14 shows up (item # and the description).
Then I go over to sheet two, open that Parts List and it lists 13A at the bottom with all the info I added in sheet one and it's non-visible. Go back to sheet one, open the Parts List and there is no 13A to be found.
I want to remove color from images to prepare them for being autotraced in AI.
Is there an advantage to using Image > Mode > Grayscale vs. Image>Adjustments>desaturate vs. Image>Adjustments>hue saturation and dropping down the saturation vs.
Image>Adjustments>Threshold for this purpose?
Do these all generally do the same thing, or would one of these result in a better job of turning my image to black and white with higher contrast?

View 3 Replies View RelatedHow can I make an imported scan of a line drawing "transparent" and add color fills to various sections, using the freehand tool ? I have done this many times with an older version of CorelDraw, but in CorelDraw- x5 the
imported scan includes a white background (even when I select NO FILL), so that my freehand tool selections are either on top of, or hidden behind the white background.
I imported the scanned image to illustrator and then used object->image tracer and converted it to a vector graphic with area fill and no stroke. So far so good.
I now want to erase little mistakes in the drawing, that look like this
if I use the eraser, this happens:
so the path is weirdly bend around the stroke of the eraser, which obviously isn't what I wanted to achieve. In all the videos I watched about the eraser, it worked fine and if I just create an area with the blob brush and erase a part of that, that works fine as well. What's so different with the traced image?
I started scanning my film & transparency archive and the next step is to import the scans into LR5, but I don't know how to add additional folders into the catalog. So far I have 75 folders going back over 30 years. Assuming I should import the scans into folders by year they were shot and not by the scan date.how I go about importing these folders into LR.

I have some crack texture photoshop brushes I really like, so I brushed on a blank psd canvas and saved it to PNG with transparent background.
I placed that in illustrator and image traced it so that it would create the paths for the cracked effect, but I can't seem to get it to make the paths for me.
I'm trying to do this so I can use the outlined brushes to erase the text layer with the traced crack png, removing the proper paths from the text layer so the text layer is now transparent where those cracks are.
Its bounded box but its this box that takes up center of my image and it ruins the entire image.I don't know how to make it go away.I have unselected things anything in window that might be related but it still not working.I am using the creative cloud version of Illustrator on computer os window 7

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm creating t-shirt pictures and have a problem: Spreadshirt says that my pictures have tiny objects in it, and that they have too many different colors. (I'm only allowed to have 3) I want to color all the transitions between the colors, but how do I select them without having to color one little spot at the time? Is it any way to just remove the transitions? And how do I remove the objects that are too small? Select same fill color doesn't work, or I'm doing it wrong. I also clicked expand to fix a text issue, don't know if that matters.

i am trying to attach a live map to the c3d2014.
first i set the projection and then it asks me insertion point.
1)why the map do not come in at the correct location and c3d needs me to specify the incertion point?
2)then it asks the rotation. i thought that all maps are pointing at north. but if i set it at 90 degrees pointing straight to the north a get a litle rotation that becomes very noticeable as i move far from the incertion point.
if the 90degrees is wrong, how can i find the correct rotation to give the c3d?
3) ok. that map is incerted. can i pan , move it ?rotate it ? how ?
Basically, I have drawn a logo on paper and I have scanned it in 1600 dpi, so it is a fairly big and detailed image, im just wandering how to go about making into an accurate drawn logo without using a tablet, a quick and easy way with a good outcome.

I have attached my scanned image, and the painting. My issue is, I want to have a digital feel to my painting; that is, I want to get rid of the penciling. I am wondering how to accomplish this. I am hoping that I won't have to manually ink the picture.
