Illustrator :: Actions Stopped Remembering PDF Preset In CS6
Dec 30, 2012
I used to have my actions set up so i could easily save PDFs with different pdf presets, depending what the work was for (print, magazine ad with bleed, newspaper ad without bleed etc).
Now when I try CS6 and set up these actions in Illustrator it seems like the action wont use the preset I set it up with, and just defaults to the last one used.
Â
Is there something I'm missing or is this indeed a flaw in CS6? Its pretty time-saving for me so it would be a big deal-breaker upgrading to CS6.
I downloaded a couple of actions from the web to my actions palette and they worked fine, but then I got greedy and downloaded a few more and that’s when things went south. Now none of the actions work - by not working I mean when I mouse over the Play Selection icon at the bottom of the action palette I get that little circle with a line through it. This happens with the PS default actions as well (I also get the circle on the Stop Playing/Recording and Begin Recording icons).
Somewhere in the following is probably what messed things up.
I downloaded actions to my computer in zip files. Copied them over to the actions folder (or somewhere) and unzipped them. I went back to the actions palette and hit “load actions” and loaded them. On the second set of actions that I downloaded I remember thinking “why am I copying and pasting these files - I bet I should cut and paste them, so I did and that may have been the start of the great crumble of 2004. PhotoShop help says: (under Saving and loading actions) “Actions are automatically saved the the Actions Palette folder in PS7.0 Settings folder. If this file is lost or removed, the actions you created are lost”.
I have searched for the settings folder and couldn’t find it, but the actions still show up on the actions palette - they just don’t run.
I’m a little fuzzy on the details on the above steps. In fact, I probably did something different on each download.
one more thing, I reloaded PhotoShop, but still nothing.
Some of my actions in CS5 all of a sudden stopped working.  Some work, but the ones I use most frequently are not working at all. I have re-booted my computer, turned it completely off/on, re-installed the actions and the same ones aren't working. The action will run, but the brush will not work. For instance, an action called Flawless Face will run, but doesn't actually do anything when I go to "brush" the face.Â
I'm using the save for web function to save a large number of files (not batch saving)usually, when I open a file and start saving for web, it will remember the folder that I most recently exported to, and by default open that folder for that file, until I "save for web" into a different folder. Â Out of seemingly nowhere, the save for web seemed to "forget" this folder (and any other folder I tried to save to), and now defaults to the "Documents" folder, causing me have to click through to find my intended destination folder. I'm on CS5 & Mac running Mountain Lion. On my work computer (exactly the same, Mac + Mountain Lion) I am using CS6 and have not encountered this issue.
I got a message to install service pack 1 this morning. Since then every time I load PSP the workspace is the default workspace and all of the tools I had added to the toolbars are missing. If I load my custom workspace from the load menu, it makes no difference, it just refreshes the screen and nothing changes. Also every time I load the program it displays the Learning Center and Organizer tabs, even though I keep disabling them.
I tried resetting everything back to the defaults but it doesn't work. Should I do a new re-install or is there something I'm missing?
Just the other day I switched from Windows XP, AutoCAD 2010 (with ProSteel) to Windows 7 (64bit), AutoCAD 2012 (with same version of ProSteel).
Since then I have been noticing that a specific ProSteel dialogue box (Shape/Plate Properties) always resets to it default display. Those of you familiar with ProSteel may know that the Shape/Plate Properties dialogue box has a bunch of expandable tabs/pages on the left hand side, generally speaking I would always like all of these tabs to be expanded each time I open this dialogue box. This has alway been how the 2 previous versions of ProSteel have behaved in the past, until now.
Every time I open this particular dialogue box, all the tabs/pages on the left of the dialogue box are contracted, and must be expanded if I am to access them.
Sounds like a small issue, but it is proving to have quite a large impact... with the amount of times I enter and exit this dialogue box.
toggling ribbonclose and ribbon but that did not answer my question. I'm using AutoCAD 2014 and there is a setting to either toggle through all ribbon states or you can select one. You can cycle through:
Minimize to Tabs
Minimize to Panel Tiles
Minimize to Panel Buttons or
Cycle Through All
I want it to always minimze to tabs but when I close CAD and re-open it doesn't remember that selection and always cycles through all minimized states again.
I don't see any system variable or registry value that seems to save this. how I can make it remember?
Why is there a 'lightroom video preset' under the preset tabs. yet when i open a video file in lightroom and go to the develop modue it says video is not supported in the develop module?
I was watching an Illustrator 6 tutorial and the instructor was able to change his workspace to resemble photoshop with a 'Like in photoshop' preset. There was also an InDesign and FreeHand preset as well. Is this a feature that needs to be enabled or downloaded.
I use Illustrator CC.I have made a custom Image Tracing Preset and want to use it on a folder containing a sequence of pictures I want all to vectorize automatically. Programming an Action isn't an option as the Action recorder doesn't record which tracing preset is used for image tracing. I found I can use the pre-installed Image Tracing Script [URL] in which I only need to specify the correct number of the Image Tracing Preset. And that became a big problem.
The loading of the preset "Rich Content PDF" failed.I Choose Edit > Adobe PDF Presets. I Click Import, and I select the "Rich Content PDF.joboptions" file.
But I have an error message (Impossible to copy the PDF preset).
how the perspective grid works. But after making my one perspective grid i wanted to save it as a preset, because i want to work with it another time. Â This doesn't work! every-time when i save it and open..it doesn't look the same as when i saved it?I don't want to set all the points in the right place again and again, that's why i saved it..
I am currently working on the schematics of a quite big document and I am using Illustrator. I work on the .ai version of the figures but I want to save them in a very quick way as pdf files with personal setting (super compression, no preview...). What I am doing now is that I have my .ai file open, and when I want to save a pdf version of it I go to "File" then "Save a copy" then "Type: pdf" and I enter a name, I click on "Save" and a window pops up with some options. Here, I select a personal preset and then click on "Save pdf" and I am happy with the final saved pdf.
The thing is that it is a quite long process when you have to do it several times per figure. I tried to automatized it through a script (or action) but the available options are quite limited (it is hard to make Illustrator understand that if the current file is myfig.ai, I want a myfig.pdf and that I want to save it in the working folder). Under "File", I also tried the "SaveDocsAsPdf" script but once again, I have to select the folder where I want to save the figure and so on. Maybe I missed something. Any efficient way to save my figures as pdf by clicking a the F9 key (for instance).
i have made a custom stroke width profile and want to back it up for future use i found two files called variablewidth or something but the date modified wasn't congruent to when i created the profile. Â where can i find the files that contain this preset to back up?
1. How do i restore a deleted preset from the Image Trace drop down panel. I accidentally deleted one of them and would like to restore it.... naturally . Is there anyway short of doing a complete reinstall? Â 2. I notice that when I scan some art, i get a double path. Meaning there's a path on both sides of the inked line. How do I get it to make one line/path for the inked line? IOW a single path with its thickness defined by the stroke weight.
I have several Illustrator JavaScripts that I've written with the ESTK. A lot of these scripts involve resizing the artboard or artwork to specific sizes. Instead of forcing the user to manually input the dimensions they want into text fields, I just stored a half-dozen or so "presets" in an array.
Then they can select one of the presets from a dropdownlist, or go ahead and input a custom size. These presets are the same for multiple "resize" scripts, so it would be nice to store those presets in a separate file (i.e. presets.jsx) that my resize scripts could reference, so when I need to add or change a preset, I could just go to that one shared file, and all the scripts would be updated. Â Is it possible to do that? If it is, a quick example of how to load the variables from another file.
Everytime I go to close Illustrator down, no matter the method. I get a message that Illustrator has stopped working and has to be forcefully closed. This happens any time I close Illustrator. I even uninstalled the entire CS6 package, cleared the registry settings, and erased all the files, and did a complete reinstall of Illustrator CS6 only, and I still get the same error. No plug-ins running or anything..  Running Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate, AMD Athlon FX 8 Core, 3.96ghz. 16GB DDR3 1600 ram, 6 1TB drives, 3 virtual drive ( each drive is mirrored). Everything else runs rock solid without any issues at all. Just Illustrator acts oddly on shutdown.
I keep getting an error whenever I try to open up illustrator that says that illustrator has stopped working and that "a problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify me if a solution is available."
I had some font issues with Microsoft Excel on my mac earlier today and had messed around with the fonts, basically moving them from one folder to another, deleting duplicates etc. Â I must admit at this point that I'm no Mac expert and I do like to do things the trial-and-error way. and I may have done something that I shouldn't have as my AI CC won't launch now. Â I can't undo what I've done as I can't remember what I did, and Time Machine isn't useful. Â I can't reinstall the CC as I don't have the installer and now Adobe won't let me download it again as apparently my OS is supposedly out of date, even though it still meets the minimum requirement (OSX10.6.8) stated.
I have a problem with Adobe CS6 Illustrator both 32 and 64 bit has this error. It keeps crashing randomly and i get the message Adobe Illustrator has stopped working. All updates are installed for illustrator.
How do i get my actions from CS6 to work on CC? The function keys do not work, I have to reload them everyday. I have saved my action set to my desk top and right now I have to reload them everyday, sometimes this works sometimes it doesn't. Here is my set of actions... Â /version 3 /name [ 27 547261636965277320416374696f6e20323031332d20436c6f7564 ]
[Code].... Â this is my set of saved actions...i was told to paste it in here...is this what you meant?
I use a series of actions that were created in CS6 and are not that complicated. They resize and align an object to coordinates with the center reference point and proportions constrained. I assumed that they would translate to other coworker’s machines with cs5 and cs5.5, but they do not work. The actions appear to load properly, but do not run like they should.  When I hit the assigned hotkey, the selected object moves, but not to the correct location and does not change size as it is supposed to. Also, I can try to manually play individual parts of the action (moving to a reference point or resizing to a certain width) and nothing happens. Not even a wiggle. When I do try to do them one at a time, the small downward triangle button that reveals details of the action disappears and when I click again I get an error message that says 'the object "transform panel" is not available.' I assume this means that action is looking for a location that has changed name or something, but I don't know how they work well enough to spot any differences when viewing the action with a text editor.  All of the computers I tried had win7. Mine is CS6 (v 16.0.2 64-bit), 2 others had CS5 and 5.5.
Ever since I upgraded to CS6 (3 months ago) I am having crashes all the time with actions. Â I have tried to remake the actions, reinstall Illustrator, disable font embedding, nothing works. I have posted the crash to Adobe many times but no fix, obviously. Â Seems to be the saving that crashes Illustrator.
Since upgrading to Illustrator CC, my actions haven't been working right. All the details from certain steps are completely gone. For example, if a step involved rotating the selection by 90°, the "Rotate" step will still be there, but there is no longer a disclosure arrow next to it with the value of 90°. Also, the Fkey that was previously bound to the action has been removed.  I have another action that selects all shapes with a similar fill and stroke, and the "Select Similar" step is still there, but again, the disclosure arrow is gone that included the information of "Fill & Stroke". Also, the Fkey associated with that action is gone as well.  When I restore my actions from a saved copy, they are retained from file to file, but once I quit Illustrator and reopen it, the actions break again.
Pressing an F key in CS6 to call an action seems to cause the application to "double up" the action. Â At first it was not obvious what was happening, as some shorter/simpler actions run so quickly that it just appeared to be a malfunction with various commands. Â This happens with actions recorded in other versions, as well as those created directly in CS6. Running the action in button mode or by hitting the play button in the Actions pane do not cause this doubling. Only with F keys. Â We've been able to work around this by inserting stops via the action menu.
I've set up an action that will add crop marks to a selected object. The action works great when clicking the play button on the panel, but when I assign a Function Key to the action, it runs the action twice (giving me 2 set of crop marks). I've tried different Function Keys thinking it was a keyboard shortcut conflict, but that has made no difference.
I have all CS5 and Snow Leopard 10.6.8 When I run a loaded Action it gets half way finished and crashes. I have 9GB RAM and no other app's running at the time.
I've noticed that the Magic Mouse for Apple Macs seems to interrupt actions when the finger is left on the surface of the mouse after scrolling about. Adobe, is this something that you're looking into?
Currently i'm doing automations for Adobe Illustrator CS4. I have created some actions due to the limitations of scripting in Illustrator. I need to call this actions through javascript. But in applescript i can able to call the actions by using the do script method.
