View 1 RepliesI am currently using AI CS3 in my home office to design images. I have to download the images to a external harddrive, take down to my laser work station and upload the images onto my other pc and open them with inkscape to send it to my laser to cut out. Can AI be loaded on two computers? I know when I purchased AI it said one computer only, but it's not like I have a business where multiple designers will be using it.

I got the full version of CC yesterday and installed Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign apps. I tested them all. They all worked. Today, I have tried to open Illustrator and I am getting the above error message. I'm using Windows 8 (64 bit).
When I run a script that brings up a palette window from ExtenScript toolkit the window behaves as I expect.But when I load the same script from illustrator (ctrl+12) the window does not show, or is instantly closed.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhat the maximum size xml file one can use when making data driven graphics in Illustrator?
I can successfully batch when I load a single variable library with about 100 datasets at one time but anything much larger than that in the same xml format gives me a “the incoming variable library is invalid” error. Elsewhere on this discussion forum I have seen answers say there is no limit to the size of the XML file. [URL]..... But my experience with Illustrator CS5 says otherwise.
1. If there is a maximum size either in file size, number of datasets, or number of variables/values, what the limit is.
2. I still need to create thousands of the final document I am creating - if the limit is close to 100 and I need to create many thousands - scripting or other methods to get this done?
Why is this so and what can I do?
I use several scripts in Illustrator. Some of them I use in this way: [URL] ....
Now I tried to built in two other scripts in the palette. In this scripts it is required to use special characters in variables. Standalone these scripts are work correct. Here is an simple example:
// exampleScript.jsx
var a = 'u201d'+" example "+'u201d';
alert(a)
I get this (correct) result:
But when I call this example script with bridge talk:
var scriptToLoad = new File(pathToScript + "/exampleScript.jsx");
var win = new Window('palette', 'own palette');
var btnSelect = win.add('button', undefined, 'example');
[Code] .....
Here is the same script and the wrong result:
How do i get my actions from CS6 to work on CC? The function keys do not work, I have to reload them everyday. I have saved my action set to my desk top and right now I have to reload them everyday, sometimes this works sometimes it doesn't. Here is my set of actions...

this is my set of saved actions...i was told to paste it in here...is this what you meant?
I use a series of actions that were created in CS6 and are not that complicated. They resize and align an object to coordinates with the center reference point and proportions constrained. I assumed that they would translate to other coworker’s machines with cs5 and cs5.5, but they do not work. The actions appear to load properly, but do not run like they should.
When I hit the assigned hotkey, the selected object moves, but not to the correct location and does not change size as it is supposed to. Also, I can try to manually play individual parts of the action (moving to a reference point or resizing to a certain width) and nothing happens. Not even a wiggle. When I do try to do them one at a time, the small downward triangle button that reveals details of the action disappears and when I click again I get an error message that says 'the object "transform panel" is not available.' I assume this means that action is looking for a location that has changed name or something, but I don't know how they work well enough to spot any differences when viewing the action with a text editor.
All of the computers I tried had win7. Mine is CS6 (v 16.0.2 64-bit), 2 others had CS5 and 5.5.
Ever since I upgraded to CS6 (3 months ago) I am having crashes all the time with actions.
I have tried to remake the actions, reinstall Illustrator, disable font embedding, nothing works. I have posted the crash to Adobe many times but no fix, obviously.
Seems to be the saving that crashes Illustrator.
Since upgrading to Illustrator CC, my actions haven't been working right. All the details from certain steps are completely gone. For example, if a step involved rotating the selection by 90°, the "Rotate" step will still be there, but there is no longer a disclosure arrow next to it with the value of 90°. Also, the Fkey that was previously bound to the action has been removed.
I have another action that selects all shapes with a similar fill and stroke, and the "Select Similar" step is still there, but again, the disclosure arrow is gone that included the information of "Fill & Stroke". Also, the Fkey associated with that action is gone as well.
When I restore my actions from a saved copy, they are retained from file to file, but once I quit Illustrator and reopen it, the actions break again.
Pressing an F key in CS6 to call an action seems to cause the application to "double up" the action.
At first it was not obvious what was happening, as some shorter/simpler actions run so quickly that it just appeared to be a malfunction with various commands.
This happens with actions recorded in other versions, as well as those created directly in CS6. Running the action in button mode or by hitting the play button in the Actions pane do not cause this doubling. Only with F keys.
We've been able to work around this by inserting stops via the action menu.
Illustrator CS6 (16.0.3) on Mac OS 10.6.8.
I've set up an action that will add crop marks to a selected object. The action works great when clicking the play button on the panel, but when I assign a Function Key to the action, it runs the action twice (giving me 2 set of crop marks). I've tried different Function Keys thinking it was a keyboard shortcut conflict, but that has made no difference.
How we can use plugin tools in actions?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI downloaded a couple of actions from the web to my actions palette and they worked fine, but then I got greedy and downloaded a few more and thats when things went south. Now none of the actions work - by not working I mean when I mouse over the Play Selection icon at the bottom of the action palette I get that little circle with a line through it. This happens with the PS default actions as well (I also get the circle on the Stop Playing/Recording and Begin Recording icons).
Somewhere in the following is probably what messed things up.
I downloaded actions to my computer in zip files. Copied them over to the actions folder (or somewhere) and unzipped them. I went back to the actions palette and hit load actions and loaded them. On the second set of actions that I downloaded I remember thinking why am I copying and pasting these files - I bet I should cut and paste them, so I did and that may have been the start of the great crumble of 2004. PhotoShop help says: (under Saving and loading actions) Actions are automatically saved the the Actions Palette folder in PS7.0 Settings folder. If this file is lost or removed, the actions you created are lost.
I have searched for the settings folder and couldnt find it, but the actions still show up on the actions palette - they just dont run.
Im a little fuzzy on the details on the above steps. In fact, I probably did something different on each download.
one more thing, I reloaded PhotoShop, but still nothing.
I've noticed that the Magic Mouse for Apple Macs seems to interrupt actions when the finger is left on the surface of the mouse after scrolling about. Adobe, is this something that you're looking into?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI used to have my actions set up so i could easily save PDFs with different pdf presets, depending what the work was for (print, magazine ad with bleed, newspaper ad without bleed etc).
Now when I try CS6 and set up these actions in Illustrator it seems like the action wont use the preset I set it up with, and just defaults to the last one used.
Is there something I'm missing or is this indeed a flaw in CS6? Its pretty time-saving for me so it would be a big deal-breaker upgrading to CS6.
Currently i'm doing automations for Adobe Illustrator CS4. I have created some actions due to the limitations of scripting in Illustrator. I need to call this actions through javascript.But in applescript i can able to call the actions by using the do script method.
View 5 Replies View RelatedHere's what I want the action to do:
Clear the selected object
Fit the Artboard to the Selected Object
Save for Web and Devices
I can get it to clear and save but I'll be darned if I can get the Fit the Artboard to the Selected Object to register in the recording of the action. No matter what shortcuts I use, menues I use it just won't record it. Is this just a thing Illustrator won't do or any I just missing something?
I do those 3 things listed above ALL the time and it would be nice it I could make those 3 things into 1 action, then add that action to a hot key on my tablet.
I just spent two days automating a large project with Illustrator CS6 actions. I suppose I should have expected Illustrator to crash at some point during this process but I didn't and, of course, it did. Upon starting Illustrator back up after the crash, I found that all dozen or so of my complex actions were gone.
I did a bit of googling and it seems that AI doesn't save these to disk anywhere; rather it just keeps them in memory until they're explicitly saved. That is, creating an action doesn't seem to actually store it anywhere.
Its running on OS 10.9.1 with all Apple and Adobe updates installed.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI perform certain actions within its handler menu goМenuItem - delete some objects; do other invisible; run through certain actions by PlayActionEvent(), e.t.c. then export the file again through PlayActionEvent("adobe_exportDocument" ...) and see that after all my activities were canceled - a document recovered to the initial state, and after each export and save the need to repeat the entire sequence again. Moreover, on some computers to export certain actions randomly do not work.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI created an AI action that will perform the following actions on an AI file. Save currently opened AI file.Export current AI file as JPG.Export current AI file as GIF.Export current AI file as PNG. After using this action, I realized there are some thing that need to be changed in order for it to be truly useful. First, I would like the JPG,GIF,and PNG to save to the same directory that the currently opened AI file is in. For example, if I open an AI file that is located at C:/images/image1.ai and run my image export action, the JPG,GIF, and PNG should save to that same directory (C:/images/). In a nutshell, I want to make this path dynamic but when I create the action it forces me to specifiy a specific location.
This becomes a problem when I try to send this Action Set to other memebers on my team. If they load the action set into Illustrator, it doesn't work properly because the save location is hard coded in the action.
I have a few hundred vector files each of various sizes. I want them resize the vector shapes to the scale fit to 300"x200" artboard.I want them all to appear centered on a 300"x200" artboard.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got tons of actions I use F-keys for, and they're playing through twice when invoked that way.
When I select the action and hit play, it works fine.
It works this way regardless of playback option selected.
Is there something I'm doing/not doing that's causing this?
In Illustrator CS6, after running an action involving a Pathfinder effects, the resulting paths are deselected.
Steps to reproduce:
1. create a new action that includes a Pathfinder function, such as Unite or Divide.
2. select a couple shapes on the artboard.
3. run the action.
The resulting shape will be selected automatically.
This is new and very frustrating behavior. I perform many Pathfinder effects, as actions mapped to key combinations, then expect to perform addtional modifications which require me to reselect the paths again.
I have two actions that I use quite often. I assigned keyboard shortcuts to them in the actions dropdown menu. However whenever I press the shortcut keys, nothing ever happens. I have tried changing the modifier key combinations...

However I do have a backup file of all of them and want to reinstall but before when I was using cs6 ( Im assuming same thing as CC as it was all on the subscription plan ) I would click actions then the right arrows and it would bring me a big screen of all the actions ( even the ones that were just preloaded in ps ) and it was a big box with all the actions and some options to record etc...Now that box isn't there and it's just a single column drop down menu.

Any script for this? I did some digging and came up empty.
