AutoCAD 2013 :: File Size With Extruded Objects
Nov 7, 2013I've been working on 3D models and noticed when i take a circle and extrude it along a path (usually a spline) it adds a lot to a file size. The objects are used as electrical conductors on power poles. After a few city blocks of this the model file size becomes basically unusable.
So my question is why does extruding a circle along a curved path increase the file size so drastically and is there another alternative to keep the file size down?

Illustrator :: Hide / Remove Pesky Negative Space Voids
May 24, 2012We've all seen this:
Adding strokes to an object, often text (in this case outlined/expanded text), and there develops little unsightly "negative space shapes".
The white stroke has an Offset Path added to it.
How to dynamically rid an object of these? Tried drawing little paths over them, grouping them with the compound text path and using Pathfinder > Add effect . . . but nope.
The workarounds are obvious -
1) Expand everything, delete the unwanted bits.
2) Draw solid paths over the negative spaces that match the bg, like the pic below:
Illustrator :: Extruded Text Missing Faces
Mar 20, 2014Trying to do a piece with plain flat san-serif text on a spiral extruding into the distance with the center of the spiral as the vanishing point. When I do this, some extruded faces are created and others do not. Usually teh curved parts of the letters get extruded but the flat surfaces (like the flats sitting on the baseline) do not. Tried both as editable test and as outlines. Same surfaces were missing.
Tested with a much simpler version - 2 lines of text with returns between them so one line was near the top of hte page ans the other near the bottom so the extrusion would use the center of the page as the vanishing point. Similar result but different surfaces were missing.
I know the CS suite is not meant to be a 3d powerhouse but I realy don't have the time (or money) to learn Maya or Blender or similar. I'm decent at Google SketchUp but importing eps outlined into the Pro version yields thousands of unconnected segments. Might as well draw the text by hand at that point...
Here's the extruded outlines - the curved parts of the letters get extruded but the flats do not:

Oct 4, 2013Out of the blue, my type tool has been acting funny in Illustrator CS6. Generally my text boxes or bounding boxes are outlined in blue. However, now they are black. May 24, 2012I'm working in Adobe Illustrator CS6 and neither the Distribute Spaces Option nor Distribute Object Option are working.It doesn't seem to matter if it's a print or web document. Doing the same thing to the same document/graphics in CS5.1 works perfectly.
Copypasteing the correctly distributed objects from CS5.1 to CS6 works ok, and if i then repeat the Distribute spaces option nothing changes and it stays correctly distributed. (read: it doesn't badly distribute like before)

Revit :: Can't Cut Walls With Voids
Jun 4, 2013I'm at my wits end trying to cut a wall with a void. I want to chamfer the corners of a wall, but I can't get even a basic void to cut from a wall. I get the error : "This Mass has no solid geometry for its Void Forms to cut. They must be deleted, or solid geometry added and cut." They clearly intersect, what am I doing wrong?

Sep 4, 2013I have a series of 3d walls in autocad Architecture 2012 and an existing CAD 2d structural column layout.
I need to remove/cut or trim the wall around the HSS columns on a floor plan. The walls show the consttruction of the wall and I can't seem to create a void or mass to cut out around the column. Is there an easy way of doing this so that I can just place this in a block to auto cut the wall. My hope was to create a column block so that I can just drop the HSS columns wherever i want them.
I know i can use a wipeout to clear the area however, that is not ideal as we have other linework that need to be visible.

Sep 22, 2013There are 3 elements there. the top of the clap board was placed before i started tryinbg to create the slanted dashes that are on the average clapboards. The white dash was skewed using Object > Transform > Shear. Then i attempted to rotate it to fit.
I need 4 of these skwed white squares / trapezoids on the top along with 4 to match on the top of the larger potion of the clapboard. I do not want to eye it as it will be a part of a logo.
What would be the best method to use?Is there a way to draw the 4 rectangles on top of a perfectly horizontal long black rectangle and skew the white dashes at the same time?Is there a way to skew based on the dimensions of the longer black rectangle?

3ds Max :: How To Cut Object With Extruded Spline
Nov 3, 2013I have model of an insect and I need to cut it into two pices as if plastic toy.
I drew a simple zig zag spline, extruded it, gave it shell for thickness and when I boolean substraction A-B i get 2 halves but without the cut walls- they appear empty. I need the cut to appear as if through a solid object.
Do I have to rebuild those cut walls by hand to make halves appear solid, or is there a faster way?

Looks like there has no option for me to do that unless I line up a flat geo at the end of my curve, then extrude along the curve. Mar 1, 2013I'm working with both Photoshop and Illustrator CS6 on a mac. I'm creating a graphic. The background is a (cartoonish) mouth and I finished it a couple of days ago. (It's an Illustrator file.) I've been working on the letters to go inside of the mouth, (Once I'm finished it'll look as though they're being crushed.) I scanned and edited small wooden letters in Photoshop, and now I would like to work with them with the background in Illustrator. I understand how to open a Photoshop file in Illustrator, but I don't want to open the document as a separate Illustrator file. Is there a way to open a file from Photoshop as a second layer?
Some of the letters repeat as well. Will I have to create two files for this, or can I open the same file twice?
