I just recently started to use Gimp on my HP, and it worked fine on Dell. When I moved my brushes over, it began to crash when it'd get to the Data load. I have over 1,300 brushes, some are ABR and most are GBR, but I separated those into folders in the Brush file.
View 8 RepliesI have been using LR since version 1 without problems. I run LR 4.4 on an iMac 27 inch with an external HD - originally OSX 10.6.8. The disk was originally firewire but I have recently changed that to a USB3.0 4tb drive. I copied all my photos and catalogs onto that drive and it worked without problems for about 2-3 months. Recently however I am getting crashes whereas I have never had one before. Suddenly LR4.4 started saying that it had experienced an unknown error and had to quit. On re-launch it wouldn't open the catalog. In fact not only would it not open the catalog, it had left 2 files in the folder with the catalog - lrcat-journal and lrcat-lock. Neither of these can be deleted (I get an unknown error code -50 if I try to do so). However if I restart the computer I can then delete them.
I thought it might be an operating system problem and finally upgraded to OSX 10.8.5. Same problems but I noted an error message saying that there had been a problem reading from the preview cache. I deleted the contents of a folder called Lightroom Cache and deleted my previews. (In fact I run an identical system at another location and simply copy catalogs from one system to the other as I work on them and so I copied the previews from the other system). This seemed to work better.
But then I installed the demo of LR 5, upgraded my LR4 catalog and am having precisely the same problems. I should say that the other system (still on 10.6.8 and an external firewire drive) has worked flawlessly since version 4 was released - and had no problems with versions 1, 2 and 3.
Since LR 5 is exhibiting the same problems, my only thought is that it is a problem with my USB drive. I have run Diskwarrior on it and rebuilt the directory - no problems encountered and have run Disk Utility on it - again no problems found. I have had no problems with the drive that I am aware of - it seems perfectly stable and behaves exactly as it should.
I cannot use LR 4.4 or 5 on this system. Is there any reason why LR should have started to object to the USB drive (it is USB 3.0 and my iMac is only USB 2.0 but there is backwards compatibility). Something is very wrong but I can't work out where to start.

View 1 Replies View RelatedA co-worked has made a mention of "Reference Alignments not found in Reference Drawing" error message popping up multiple times this morning and said he thinks it is a trendd in many drawings that have been worked on. In my experience this message pops up if you move the location of the reference drawing, or change the name of the alignment without synchronizing.
The issue is it has been said that this is fatal erroring the drawings.

When I create my merge document, regardless of how many pages, I will need to make edits to some of the text. Corel will randomly crash when I try to edit the text. Every time. I have lots of work to do and have not the time to deal with this.

GIMP 2.8.6 and 2.8.8 keeps crashing on me. This typically happens when I add an .abr brush.I have a couple in there already that work and does not crash GIMP, but whenever I add new ones, it does no matter what.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been a GIMP user for a number of years now and it's always worked well for me, but since 2.8 came out I keep on experiencing crashes.
Some occur randomly, but the most common one is while attempting to zoom in or out by holding Ctrl and scrolling the mouse wheel. When I do this, either nothing happens, so no zooming (and moving up/down with mouse wheel doesn't work either), or GIMP just crashes, naturally deleting all my work in the progress. Sometimes just hitting Ctrl is enough to make it crash.
Starting GIMP through command line gives me this output upon crash..
My Gimp is crashing EVERY 5 - 10 minutes and already crashed umpteen dozen times already today! ANYTHING and EVERYTHING is causing it to crash! from opening up an image, using tools, changing visibility of layers, It has CRASHED at least once for EVERY action I can perform in Gimp! and it ONLY lasts 5 - 10 minutes until a crash! it EVEN crashes when it is dormant!
View 2 Replies View RelatedOk, so I have been using Gimp for around a year now, I love it! Have never had any problems... until now. Ramdomly enough it has decided to stop working for me. On start up it takes alot longer than usual... 20 - 30 mins longer than usual! The start up splash screen freezes, along with the rest of my desktop. I always run it with nothing else running so I don't think there's anything conflicting there.
My windows updates are fully up to date, along with drivers etc. This really frustrates me because as I said, I have been running Gimp for almost a year without a single glitch.
I have also tried uninstall/reinstall, tried running the older build. If I do by some miracle get it to run, its extremely slow, freezes during simple tasks. Specs below -

i just update my Gimp to the new 2.8.6 and for some reason it keeps crashing whenever i start opening up GImp(the loading screen)! I kept uninstalling it and installing it again,but,the same crash always appears! I then restart the computer and it happens again!
View 2 Replies View RelatedI experienced this issue with Gimp 2.6 whenever I had a lot of brushes in the brush folder. The only way I found to avoid the problem was to have less brushes in it. As a result, I never got to really use all of them like I had intended to.
The current version I'm using is 2.8. I updated Gimp because I saw the tagging system. I figured it'd be easier to locate the brushes I want to use. The program worked fine up until I added more folders to the brush folder to take advantage of the tagging system. Now the start-up freezes and crashes when it's updating the tagging cache.
In general, Gimp seems to get mad at me when I add a crap ton more than it's comfortable with.
Gimp 2.6 NEVER once crashed! 2.8 FREQUENTLY crashes! I cleared my userdata TWICE and still having frequent Gimp crashing!

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm adding edge wrap tabs to an octogon image and during the process I rotate the layer one edge at a time and on the first 2 or 3 edges my fairly new TOSHIBA lap-top processes the GIMP file reasonably quickly; by the 5th edge the system bogs down to get the message 'GIMP (not responding)' for many minutes or half hour. Like the computer CPU is clogged up with data? This is the only app. that I run during the session and I'm not on-line at that time. GIMP 2.8.

I am trying to take a jpg file of an image, and write each RGB pixel color's value into a 3 component integer vector corresponding to the RGB components of the color for that pixel. For each pixel in the jpg, I wish to write the corresponding 3 by 1 integer vector into a matrix after which I plan to do a SVD decomposition of the newly constructed matrix to do an image analysis.
Any plug-in that allows one to efficiently iterate through each pixel in a jpg, and convert the pixel data to a RGB integer vector, and say write to a file?
Specific Details: I am using gimp 2.6 as my image editor, and wish to collect all the RGB 3 by 1 integer vectors (where each 3 by 1 integer vector corresponds to RGB color of exactly one pixel in the jpg image) into a matrix of integer so that I can do a reduced SVD decomposition of that matrix to analyse the pixel data: I wish to compare two similar images by using the SVD decomposition of integer matrices corresponding to the two images saved as jpg files pic1.jpg and pic2.jpg.
Is there a way to view EXIF data in Gimp 2.6? I tried using the plugin 'exif-browser.tar.gz' but it did not seem to work in 2.6.

For example, is there a way to use GIMP features to edit an Adobe Illustrator editable map by importing an excel document containing two columns: one column containing the names of the defined layers and another column containing the color value in hex code. I see "Raw image data" under "Open > Select File Type", but grayscale isn't listed. Is the only option? Are there any add-ons for grayscale?
I am using GIMP 2.8.4, on a netbook running Windows 7 SE, with 1G RAM, and a 1.6GHz CPU.
Ever since I started to use GIMP 2.8.4, I get this "unable to read tile data from disk" prompt, and a tile in the picture is missing, frequently.

Is this because of my hard-disk? or a known bug in GIMP 2.8?
I have a small image imported from a PDF 1.2 X 2 centered on a 8.5 X 11 inch White background.
I simply want to select the black portion of the image, copy - duplicate a set amount around the existing image.
I thought this would be select, copy paste, paste..... done, save. but no not that easy.
I assume I have 2 layers a FG and a BG layer. I believe that FG is Black ? I have tried rectangle select then paste but that is not working.
How do you get a listing of layers?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a nice image that has lost the red channel histogram data for about half of the image. It can still be viewed, and the preview is correct.
Can I copy the histogram data from the red channel of the non-corrupt portion of the image? I know it's the red channel because when I open the color data from the corrupted portion the red channel is literally non-existant.
cleaned up the fonts and its still crashing by simply scrolling thru to find a file to open and to make matters worse, my CS2 which hardly ever crashed now crashes just opening it. I am rather beside myself, I have an iMac running 10.6.8 with 4GB of memory. I would love to copy and paste the crash report but it's not letting me do that.
View 15 Replies View Relatedsometimes in a heavy scene - it seems to depend on the topology/object count, more than on the actual poly count, when you start moving the viewport/camera there is a short lag in the first second. I assume that has something to do with the directx caching. If you know what i am talking about - here is the workaround: freeze everything you dont need right now (and set "frozen grey" to off). for some reason the lag is no more.
When you use the "orbit" button this is not happening - i guess the time you need moving the mouse from the button to the circle does the trick.
A personal comment at the end: i use 3d studio since the release 4 for ms-dos - so i saw it evolving in the past 15 years and used it nearly everyday. since max 8-9 things went worse with every new release .
