I have tried the warp and bend/curve filters but cant seem to get the effect i want.

Jun 19, 2013I work with old manuscripts, many of which are digitised and available online. However one of the problems our readers have encountered is differentiating the main text from ink which is coming through the page from behind (bleed-through), and ink which has come from the page adjacent (offset). What I am hoping to achieve is to have one final image with the main text in one colour, and the bleed-through and offset in other colours so we can quickly identify what is real and what isn't.
I usually work with ImageJ but am hoping to use GIMP to assign colours to each of these layers. I have three base images to work with (the front of the page, the back of the page horizontally flipped, and the adjacent page which is causing offset). They aren't registered, but even something like using semi-transparency on an overlay, and physically colouring in the different ink areas could work, but I'm not sure where to start.

Mar 4, 2014I'm trying to bend a set of panoramic photos around a circle. Most of the discussions I see in this forum are about doing this with text using the Type on a path tool. I'd like to achieve the essentially same thing with a photograph. The warp tool in photoshop seems much too clumsy for my needs. Here is an example of the layout i'm talking about, with black boxes instead of images.

Jan 20, 2013I have a small company doing designs onto mugs, steins, pints, etc. I recently added the ability to do custom photo designs, so now I'm trying to perfect the image curvature for my pint glasses and coming up against a problem.
So - with a pint glass, in order to put a design on it you actually have to curve the image. I'm following this tutorial here - [URL] where he shows how to use GIMP to curve a photo to insert into a tumbler.
I am doing the same process except my dimensions/numbers are different. I need to be able to create the appropriate .points file for my pint glasses but if I use the one he created, my image will be off since the pints don't have the same dimensions as the tumbler he did the tutorial for.
SO - all this to say - how the heck do I calculate what values to put in the points file? For example, on this particular project I need to make an image to be curved up 5/8" on the bottom and 3/4" on the top. He used .25" and .3125" so if I use his file, my designs won't be right.

Feb 23, 2013I've been working on scenery tiles to serve as ground textures for an X-Plane airport. To get seamless transitions between the tiles I work on four tiles at the time and subsequently copy this large image to four smaller ones. Before I started out I ensured that all images were converted to full color (millions of colors) since they came with a limited 256 color palette in the first place. Still, during some copy and paste operations I've got tiles with a drab hue. So, it evidently takes the palette of the image I paste it unto which would make perfect sense if that palette was limited. However, it shouldn't be!
I've got around the problem by pasting problem tiles unto other images or started from scratch with a white canvas. It seems that any existing palette is limited and will skew the hues of a layer being pasted unto it. I work with *.xcf, then *bmp and finally *png in case this makes a difference. So, does a "full color" *.png still have a limited palette? Further, is there a way to ensure that a selection will retain its hues beyond starting out with a global choice of millions of colors?

Oct 23, 2012If I take an image, and using the path tool, draw an area, then do a selection from path, cut/copy and paste as 'new image' then save the new image as a .bmp, .jpg etc, I am getting the whole original image instead of the cut an pasted portion. The full image does not show up as long as the drawing remains in .xcf (the background is a grey checkerboard). When saved as .jpg or .bmp the checkerboard is replaced by the original source image that it was cut from. This is Gimp 2.6.11 under Linux.
I have checked for extra layers, tried removing alpha channels, doing a 'copy visible' and re-pasting, merging of all layers all to no avail. It doesn't always happen either so there must be something, some setting or clicky box somewhere.

Nov 23, 2013i would like to fill a selection exactly with a defined color (full red). I want everything inside the selection to be full red and everything outside to be untouched but I don't managed to do it.
With the bucket, even in normal mode with opacity 100, "fill whole selection", there are still pixels outside the selections that become half red. With the pencil, same story.
GIMP :: Open AI File Not Loading Full Image
Apr 5, 2012I am trying to open an .AI file, and am having almost success. Instead of loading the whole image, it cuts off about 50% of the image, leaving just the center. I altered the rendering width and height in the Import from PostScript window and it successfully extended the image to include the right side, but the left is still truncated. How can I get this whole image to open?
I can resort to just mirroring the left and right sides to fill in the blanks, but I would really rather not do that if it is possible.
I am running Windows 7 64-bit, with Gimp ver 2.6.11

Oct 8, 2013I have a square selection that I'd like to map into a circle of equal size. I see apply lens and map object...sphere, but neither of these seem to do a proper job.
The algorithm I'm after would basically take the pixels of the square and map them onto their new locations within the circle so that each pixel moves inward toward the center until it reaches its appropriate location along the the line from the origin to its radius.
I'm about to the point to just code it in C++.

Nov 2, 2012I've been messing around with this shape, mostly based on ideas from the skull medallion tutorial over at Gimp users, and was wondering what is causing the white jagged line that appears along the bottom of the wing and also to the outer edges. It only appears after I have run the Lighting Effects filter.It's not too obvious on the full size image of the batman type symbol, but becomes quite noticeable when a section is enlarged.

Somehow I've gotten this v2.6 on a Linux box into a mode where the visible opacity doesn't follow the slider full range. Instead it is all or nothing. At 50% or less opacity the layer is entirely transparent and at 50.1% or more it is entirely opaque.

Is there a way to skew a circle for isometric pixel art (30 degrees)? Does gimp have a isometric/pixel grid? (there's a regular grid, but its not isometric)
when selecting an object, is there a way to select it without using float every time? Lastly, is there a way to constrain a line to the 3 most used isometric lines used in isometric pixel art? (shift works, but its hit or miss)
