I'm working on a simple project consisting of several colored horizontal bars with text in them. At least, that's the plan. I typed text in the first bar, then created a new layer, changed the font size, and started typing text in the second bar. The text appeared in the text dialogue box, but nothing appeared in the bar. I can bring up a new project and successfully enter text.
View 1 RepliesWhen I tried to edit some aspect of the image, whether a text layer or typing in the dimensions I want to set an image to, the text doesn't type. Typing instead chooses the keyboard shortcuts. For example, if I'm resizing an image to 245px, when I type in the "2", it instead activates the "2" of the zoom function.

If you accidentally stretch text and don't realize it till later is it given a value that can be compared to other text so you can conform it to the rest of the text? Is this a tool or what? The scenario is you accidentally stretch text minutely, save the file, copy and paste this text to another file with same format to realize later it has been manipulated and doesn't match.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi switched gimp 2.6 to 2.8 and new text tool behaves strangely, as i remember in gimp 2.6 when i try to change text content with selecting old text and pasting new text i could use same text size and same font with my old text without doing anything but now in the gim 2.8 whenever i try to change content of a text layer i need to choose again font and text size from toolbox options, but why do i have to do this, i have a text placed on my image with a certain font and certain font size and i just want to alter my text conten not the size of text or font , it changes automatically to back text size and font whatever i used last time in another work.
summary: i want to change my text content without setting my font and font size properties, i want to use my text layers old properties
So for some reason my GIMP doesn't open the save box. I re-installed but still nothing.

But GIMP only recognises the folder itself and not the content in it and all the subfolders.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I use the scale tool on an image, I get that thing where I have to type in the pixels, but after I do that, and press Scale, I get the scale loading thing, but nothing happens, and the image remains the same size. It also doesn't work if I manually drag the image to size. It's only works when I type in the pixel width, then press enter, then Scale, but this makes the picture remain the same size. I also can't rely on this since I don't know the pixel size. This is what I hate about Gimp, either it's really glitchy or it's super complicated and I don't know how to fix something as simple as this. It's not the first problem I've had, and I have to close with saving, reopen everytime.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to use the Threshold Alpha command on a Layer of Solid Noise, but nothing happens. If I set the threshold to 255 everything goes transparent, anything below that the clouds are supremely unimpressed. It's an RGB image, has an alpha channel, no Alpha channel lock, the Threshold tool works fine. I also tried creating another test picture with several gradient in greys and colors, and they are equally unaffected by Threshold Alpha.
I'm using GIMP 2.6.11 on WinXP SP3.
Today I downloaded last version - Gimp 2.8 and when I wandted to use eyedropper tool in color dialog, I found out that it doesn´t work. So I uninstaled it and downloaded it again. But it doesn´t work too.I´m on Windows XP SP3.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a new computer that has Windows 8. I have attempted this with BOTH Gimp 2.8 AND 2.6. I have a regular Wacom Bamboo Tablet.
I've been hunting online for HOURS, and all I find are the same answers that don't work for me. What I find are answers like "Enable the pen and eraser in the Devices menu" and such and such. No, that does not work. Only the core pointer shows up in the devices menu, and there is NO WAY to change that. In the Input Controllers menu, what show up are DirectX DirectInput, Mouse Buttons, Keyboard, and Main Mouse Wheel. All of these are activated. Despite every attempt I've made, nothing changes. The tablet pen and eraser DOES NOT SHOW UP AT ALL.
Again, Core Pointer is the ONLY device that appears in the Input Devices. All available controllers are active. The tablet is plugged in, and YES, I opened Gimp WITH the tablet. I'm an artist who uses Gimp, so not having the ability to draw is like not having my lifeblood.
I am using the latest version of GIMP on my windows 7 pc but color to alpha doesn't work. At my pc at work it works fine but i use windows xp there and i have ghostscript and python installed.
Or is it something completely different?
I just wrote a very specific python plugin for someone who uses Gimp on OSX. The plugin doesn't appear in her menus so the installation may not be correct.
1) are there accurate instructions to install python plugins somewhere (preferably in the user's Gimp profile)? Is there a need to set some "executable" flag on the file (and if so how)?
2) in case the plugin doesn't register properly due to some syntax error, is there a way to check that out? On Linux one would start Gimp form a terminal, on Windows I believe gimp-console does it, but hat is the equivalent on OSX?
3) can some knowledgeable OSX user test that my plugin works correctly (PM me a mail address where I can send the plugin)
I am trying to print in landscape on a 5x7. In Image I change print size to 5x7 with no problem. In Page Setup I change from A4 to 5x7, select landscape and click OK. I double check and its restored all settings back to A4. If I print I get half my image in portrait.
The page setup does not appear to accept my changes, why?
I just got Gimp 2.8 for Mac. I can open a picture, do a blur and export. The copy paste is giving me problems. It worked once. I make a selection with the rectangle and do a control c. I also tried the menu. The selection doesn't go to the clipboard. After 6 tries, the same original copy was the only one in there.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSome time ago, the Gimp stopped responding to my mouse in the image window. In other windows and on menus the mouse works fine (ie I can select brushes and such and use the interface without problems), but in the image window (or more precisely, the canvas area) it's as if the mouse doesn't even exist. All kinds of clicks are ignored, the rulers doesn't show the position of the cursor, and the position in the lower left also isn't updated (it isset once upon entering the window, but after that it's dead).
This originally happened out of the blue one day while using Gimp 2.2.11 . I tried upgrading to 2.2.12 and then 2.3.13, without success. I also deleted the ~/.gimp*directory in the hope that regenerating the config would fix the problem, but no.
No matter what I do, I can't make the Gimp recognize the mouse in the image window. The mouse isn't anything special, and it used to work with the exact same X config I've got now. I haven't changed the xorg.conf file in several months. The Gimp is the only application with this problem.
This is on a dual-core amd64 processor in 64-bit mode (haven't tried 32-bit), Linux kernel 2.6.18, Xorg 7.1.
I'm using GIMP 2.6.11 on Windows XP. I use "ALT + PRINT" to capture the active program's screen and "Edit -> Paste as -> New Image" to create a new image from the captured screen.
The problem is that the new image always shows extra lines (about 3-pixel wide) on the left side and clips the right side. I haven't verified it pixel-by-pixel, but it looks like what's clipped on the right side is displayed on the left side.
But the problem doesn't happen when I do "File -> Create -> Screen Shot -> Grab a single window"; it shows up nicely.
Also even when I use "ALT + PRINT" to capture, the problem doesn't happen when I paste it to a different program, such as Windows Paint or even WordPad; it happens only when I do "Paste as New Image" in GIMP.
When I open a image the image opens in the large center Gimp window but does not open in the right side layers window as a background image. Why not.
I opened a picture of my car & I want to try to change the color. A YouTube Gimp video shows using layers but I don't have a picture of my car in the layers window.
it is a lot of time that I noted that if I convert a RAW file from my Canon camera in TIFF and then I post elaborate it with GIMP, I obtain a file without EXIF. No problem whan I convert the RAW file in jpeg.

Somehow I've gotten this v2.6 on a Linux box into a mode where the visible opacity doesn't follow the slider full range. Instead it is all or nothing. At 50% or less opacity the layer is entirely transparent and at 50.1% or more it is entirely opaque.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI used to save images in 1-bit PCX format, as required by several label(thermal transfer) printers. I can't find any way to do that anymore.
Export to PCX does not give any options, and exports 24bit color.
Even after changing the image format to indexed, and selecting 1-bit B/W,export to PCX is still
8-bit colour, 300 x 300 dpi, RLE compressed
Any way to accomplish
1-bit colour, 72 x 72 dpi, RLE compressed
Note that another accepted format is monochrome BMP, but this does notseem to work either in GIMP. The only options offered are RGB.
When I tried to add text it doesn't really work. For example: Let's say I type in "Whats your name?" It won't show I typed unless I go click on a different tab and then go back to it. And the question mark will be in the front instead of in the back. And if I try to erase it, it won't erase.

I am having trouble with getting certain pieces of text to show up in my viewport in paperspace. There is text and linework on the same layer. However, only the linework shows up in paperspace, not the text. I have seen this before and don't remember how to fix it. It is a setting somewhere but I don't remember where.
View 7 Replies View RelatedIm creating a label for my CD, and I created the images with PS7 & then imported them into coreldraw in EPS format to do the text. (I heard that vector programs create cleaner, crisper text than bitmap programs,and my fonts are between 8 - 10 size). I added my text & some vector clipart then printed it directly from CorelDraw & the text & clipart was super crisp but the imported image was gritty, so I exported the entire file back into PS7 in Corel EPS format. I printed it in PS7 & the reverse happened: The image was nice & clean & the text was gritty. Am I importing/exporting in some wrong fashion, or there a way to have both my images & text come out crisp & clean?
