GIMP :: Align Text Not Vertically At Bottom Of Text Box?
Oct 27, 2011is there any possibility in GIMP to align a text not vertically at the bottom of a text box (there are options for left, right, center and fill but that's only the horizontal alignment). The motivation is, that I change a text in an image quite often and it whould "align itself" if it whould always be aligned at the bottom of the textbox.

I like it for cutting and pasting into new files but I'm having trouble learning the method of adding captions at the bottom of pictures where I'd like to place text of the names of the people above. I get text in black but the background stays the same as previous in the picture so most of the time it can't be seen. I really need to get this going in the next week or so as I'm preparing for an event where the pictures will be on display.

GIMP :: Expanding Image Margins Programmatically
Dec 29, 2012I have a collection of 50 or so scanned images of old posters, with yellowed backgrounds. I want to put these images on the backs of business cards. The aspect ratio of the cards is not the same as that of the posters. I don't want to crop the posters to fit the cards. What I'd like to do is expand the margins of the image on two sides so that the dimensions match that of the cards. It would be relatively simple to just expand these images with white background, although still a bit of a job to do it 50 times. However, I'd really like to grab the yellowed margin of each poster and expand it out in some way. So I see two tasks that might be somewhat challenging. First, figure out where the margins are. I assume there is some kind of edge detection that could be used to find the break between the "formerly white" part and the printed image part of the poster. Then the other tricky part is creating a new image that is similar enough to this yellowed margin texture that I could add it along these two edges without having an ugly seam visible.
Is it feasible to automate it so it can be applied 50 times?

Nov 2, 2012i switched gimp 2.6 to 2.8 and new text tool behaves strangely, as i remember in gimp 2.6 when i try to change text content with selecting old text and pasting new text i could use same text size and same font with my old text without doing anything but now in the gim 2.8 whenever i try to change content of a text layer i need to choose again font and text size from toolbox options, but why do i have to do this, i have a text placed on my image with a certain font and certain font size and i just want to alter my text conten not the size of text or font , it changes automatically to back text size and font whatever i used last time in another work.
summary: i want to change my text content without setting my font and font size properties, i want to use my text layers old properties

Oct 26, 2013First it stops pasting anything except the first thing copied when Gimp opens, and now this. When I try to search for a font or type in text in the text tool in Gimp 2.8, it just jumps to random other tools instead of typing.

Mar 8, 2011Text Along Path tool. I create a path then select the text tool and type some text. I click on the Text along Path button and an outline of my text shows up along my path. That's as far as I can go. How do I make the text stick there? How do I complete this process. I know the solution is simple but I can't figure it out and I don't see it in the GIMP manual.

When using the text too, some letters kick out of the text tool and open other tool options. Small "l" opens the blend tool. Small "b" opens path tool. Big "B" opens bucket fill.

GIMP :: 2.8 Mac Text Font Tool Turn Off
Dec 5, 2012I just upgraded to 2.8 and when I want to add some text this tool appears on top of the text box. No matter where I move the text box it chases my text box around. It is annoying as it covers part of my image and I don't need it there. How do I turn this thing off?
Also why when I choose New Toolbox I get this super long tool pane. I resize it to what I want. Then when I close it and do it again it comes back again. Any way to set this up correctly?

Here's what I am doing:
Clicking on the rounded rectangle and drawing it to the size I want
selecting the marquee tool and selecting the area of the rounded rectangle I want to delete.
After I selected the area with the marquee tool, I press delete and instead of the area I selected being deleted, the whole layer is deleted instead.

Mar 19, 2013I use the path tool to create the shape of the text line I want to curve. I enter the text I want with the font, colour, etc, and select text along path. The text goes where I want it, but no matter what I have tried, the text colour along the path (my curved text) is always red and it doesnot look like the font in my text area. I can change the font / colour of the original text which works great, but the text along the path doesn't seem to change.

Oct 23, 2011According to a few tutorials I have read, the Units Menu should appear on the bottom line, alongside the Status and the Pointer Coordinates and Zoom Button. None of these items appear, and I have searched far and wide, but can't find out where to enable them. The only thing that appears on that line is "Background (2.7 MB)".

Oct 13, 2012I'm trying to fade text from top to bottom using a path I have always followed, but isn't working now:
1. Select the layer the text is on
2. Create Fill or Adjustment Layer > select Gradient from the drop-down menu
3. Click on the Gradient bar to bring up the options
4. Adjust opacity, direction, colour > OK
When I create the Fill or Adjustment layer and select Gradient, the gradient is applied to the whole document rather than just the text on the layer I've selected.
My text is white against a blue background..I have tried selecting the gradient "Foreground to Transparent", but can't get past the stage where that is applied to the whole document.
