GIMP :: Smoothing Oval Border
Sep 27, 2011I created an oval: 418x528 and using stroke, gave it a one pixel border. Unfortunately, the oval border looks not smooth. I'd like to give it a wider border, but the unsmoothness looks worse the wider you make the border.

Jun 30, 2013I took up the program to facilitate completion of a small project for a 16-year old daughter that's making an incredible recovery from a serious illness. I provide this background because I'm currently "a bit" impatient - and I'm HOPING GIMP can be used to get this done. What we're looking at is a VERY small "Heart Locket" our daughter was given at birth. What I'm looking to do is create "photo masks" for my wife and my faces so we can "craft" the photos in the requisite size (~1/8"x1/8") and shape (heart)! So far I've succeeded in importing a photo I'd taken of the Locket's interior with a Macro Lense at a "workable size," such that the finished "mask" can be scaled to match the photos we're using, then scaled down to final size in photographic process. And while I'm VERY impressed with Path Tool, I CAN'T find a way to eliminate the tedium of "hand-smoothing" the result. I actually found a plugin that'd been developed for this purpose in 2009, but fails to install because it's looking for (what I have to assume is) an older dll. I CAN'T be unique in this need, can I?

Sep 16, 2011When adding a foreground image to a "flaming" blue background, I find that the image I add takes on the blue colors of the background, rather than keeping its original colors.
The linework and highlights (indeed, most of the detail) remain - they just all turn blue, heh. Like it's trying to camouflage itself. How do I keep the foreground image from "masking" itself to the colors of the background?
Both background and foreground image layers are in .xcf format. Could this be the problem? Do I need to change one or both to something like .jpg or .gif?

GIMP :: How To Make All Blue And Red In Image Of One Plain Shade
Dec 18, 2012Referring to the image attached, this is my question: I want to make all the blue and red in the image of one plain shade. You can see that in the image there are couple of patches of red and blue color separated by while lines. Now inside one of these colored patches (which is isolated form another patch by a combination of above mentioned white lines and the boundary of the image itself), the color is either red or blue. This color does not look uniform because this image is a scan of a painting. Hence, although the entire patch is red/blue, not every pixel in that patch is of the same shade. If I wanted to change everything inside one such region to a plain red or blue color, how can I do that? If such is the case then I will try to articulate it better. Find attached, the image.

GIMP :: Strange Blue Scribble Showing On Some XCF Files Opened

Not sure when this started happening since the last time I used Gimp was about a week or so ago and everything was fine at that point... Now when I open these ".xcf" files I've been working on in Gimp I see this strange Blue Scribble that is showing in the same location for pretty much all the xcf files I opened.
I went through every layer in the "Layers" window and made each one NOT visible in an attempt to see if it was something on one of the layers, but it remained there even after ALL layers were no Longer visible. I also created a new xcf file, saved it, then re-opened it in Gimp and NO scribble was there...
If I export one of the files showing the Blue Scribble into any other format and then re-opened it in Gimp the Blue Scribble is gone too.

Jan 13, 2013I have 33 images and each image has a white background. To make an animated .gif file I open the 33 images in GIMP 2.8.2 as individual layers and export as a .gif file. For some reason though, when it creates the .gif file, the background turns blue?

Jul 28, 2011I'm running Windows 7 64Bit running Adobe CS5 Master Collection. But ever since I allowed CS5 Photoshop to control my printer (HP Photosmart Prem 310-C) to do a test print of a graphic that I created all of my Blues print a violet/blue color, no matter what color blue. It has even affected MS Word & MS Project when I try to print blue colored font or Gantt Chart blues will no longer print blue, but will print the same blue/violet color. I've even tried a brilliant blue which will all view great, but prints the same shade of violet blue! All my colors and Blues will view great! I've calibrated my monitor and I've reset my printer several times and still the same thing! I never had this problem before I downloaded Adobe CS5! A strange thing is that I can run check printer test and the data & image that is stored in the printer will print blues perfect, including running a copy direct from the scanner bed and it will produce perfect blues. I almost feel as though Adobe CS5 has possessed my PC and printer, how do I get it back to printing like it did before installing CS5 Master Suite?

Jan 15, 2009I have just downloaded the cs4 demo for photoshop after reading about how it can paint on 3d objects. I imported an obj file I created in modo. In modo I hit tab to turn on smoothing. In photoshop I can't seem to find a way to do smoothing. I know that photoshop isn't a 3d program but I was wondering if it offers any kind of smoothing algorithm? I'd hate to have to save out my mesh at a high poly count to bring into PS to paint. Is this the only way or am I missing something?

Jan 14, 2009I need help with the brush tool in Photoshop CS3. All the brushes appear to be pixelated, and I'm unable to draw any smooth lines at all. Whatever I draw comes out edgy and rough.
On the other hand, the eraser tool still produces smooth lines. I tried fiddling with brush preferences, but nothing I do helps: I just can't draw smooth lines with the brush tool, although the smoothing option is turned on.

Apr 10, 2006But,I couldn't figure out how to "paint back in detail" like it described, into the eyes and lips. It said something like "paint with a black brush over the blur mask to eliminate the blur in specific areas." I couldn't find a black brush; which brush is it talking about?
Also, I'd like to know how to apply this technique to just an area I've selected with the lasso tool, like her face.

I've been unable to get this cropped shoulder smooth against the black ground; that's the model's hair in the upper right corner falling onto her collarbone. (I can't show the entire photo as it includes partial nudity). I selected it from a busy bright background with extraction. I figured I'd be able to sharpen it at the end, but that didn't work precisely. I've tried Unsharp Masking in Channels, heal & stamp tools, even using a black pencil, but this is still my best result.
