May 14, 2012After upgrading to Gimp 2.8, I am loving the single window mode. But the brushes are working a bit differently to 2.6.
I work, mostly, on A4 pages at 300DPI. So when I want to enlarge a brush, I like to use a custom shortcut to quickly upscale the brush so that I can to a large size quickly.
This happened nicely in 2.6. However, in 2.8, I can't find a way to quickly upscale the brush in the same way. I've created the same custom shortcut, but the upscaling takes a lot longer to reach the desired scale. It's a case of holding down the keyboard shortcut and then waiting while the brush gets bigger.
Is there a way to speed up that upscale motion?
EDIT: In other words, is there a way to make the "increase brush size more" function increase its increments?

Mar 5, 2011I've been using GIMP to make GIFS for a long time now, but recently the "optimize for difference" option I've used is having the reverse effect it should have- ie, it's making the file larger. Here's an example. It's the exact same image, same dimensions, same amount of colors. The first one is unoptimized, each frame is a full picture, and it's file size it ~149kb. The second one is the same as the first, except optimized with about ~50% of the pixels removed from each frame (except the first frame obviously), and yet it's file size is ~155kb. I can not for the life of me figure out why an image with most of it's pixels removed is creating a larger file size. [URL]...

Dec 16, 2011I am reading some drawing tutorials for Photoshop and they talk about a setting of the brush called "flow". Is there a corresponding setting in GIMP and where it is?
Edit: After some additional searching I found that the option is called "incremental", but I also found that it doesn't work as described in the docs - it is not limited to the opacity set for the tool.
I am using GIMP 2.6.11 on Gentoo Linux
GIMP :: Creating Brush Of A Bubble
Jan 3, 2014I am trying to create a brush of a bubble. The end result I want is a colored bubble with a white shine like in this tutorial [URL]...... I am trying to make it into a brush so that I can replicate it easily and add an overlay to make the color.
I am having difficulty getting color in the middle and white as the edge/shine. I keep getting color as the shine and white in the middle. I suppose I am doing something wrong with the choice of white, black, gray, and alpha while making the brush.
Lightroom :: Setting LR To Print To Different Sizes?
Jul 24, 2013I have a picture package I want to create. This needs to be the same image on different sized outputs. But you can only create a print package with one custom file size. Is there a way of setting LR to print to different sizes?
I know I can select page size as master size, and print with different sized cells on each page, but I actually want the page size to be different.
For example
page 1 = 8x10 page size, with 8x10 cell
page 2 = 8x12 page size with 8x12 cell
page 3 = 8x6 page size with 8x6 cell
page 4 = 8x6 page size with 2 of 4x6 cells.
I single image, printed on 4 different size pages...
Could you modify the LRtemplate file? Its the global settings bit that concerns me, I dont want a global setting of
_globalSettings = {customFileHeight = 576,customFileWidth = 432,I could do with these file dimensions different for each print.
Can it be done?? has it been done??
even if itspeople pointing me towards different software.
PS - I'm using LR4 but LR5 doesnt have this option either.

Apr 13, 2013There are a few things I just don't get about brush settings. Sometimes it seems my brushes go all wonky.
When I change the settings for 1 brush... say I add some jitter to a smooth brush - then suddenly the other brushes get the same jitter applied to them.
How can I set the brushes so that each brush has a different setting that doesn't change when I change any other brush settings?
p.s. I also don't get why Adobe has you lock a brush by UNlocking it? Seems to me it should be the other way around?

I have an Nvidia Geforce 7900GS card with an old 2006 driver, 8.4.4.0 I tried updating to driver 306.81 from earlier this month and whilst this solved the brush issue, it caused the PC's cooling fans to operate much more frequently (and noisily) than before so I concluded it was not so suitable for my card.
In view of this, should I be trying an older driver, say from 2009 as the earlier post suggests "because that bug was fixed by Nvidia back in the Spring of 2009"
If so, which one?
I'm running XP, SP3 PC has dual core Pentium CPU 3.4GHz, 4GB RAM (3.25 useable with XP) CS6 updated with all available updates.
Photoshop :: Brush Errors On Larger Graphics
Mar 9, 2008I'm not sure if anyone here can help me out but I'm having some problems with my Photoshop CS. Every time I go to put a brush onto the layout header I'm working on I get a program error message (Could not complete request due to a program error) and Photoshop closes. I get a pop-up from Windows telling me it will shut down Photoshop and notify me if there's a solution to be found. I've tried three separate brushes from three different custom brush sets and sll of them have caused Photoshop to shut down. Has this happened to anyone else? If so what can I do to fix it? For some odd reason this is only happening when I'm working with large 760x350 journal headers. I was able to work with a 350x80 banner just fine. I reinstalled Photoshop CS several times but that didn't do a thing. I tried going back to the original presets (I renamed the presets folder when I moved my presets from my old computer last fall) and using a default brush but that didn't work either. I asked in a help community over on Livejournal but that didn't bring me much help. I really want to be able to use my brushes on my larger graphics.
The odd thing is I'm trying to make a header for a layout that's 760x350 in size. I go to create the new graphic with that specific size and it won't accept the brushes and gives me those errors. I go to create a small banner (350x80) or a 100px square journal icon and it works just fine. It even works fine on an existing image that's 760px wide and over 400px in height. I haven't tried to start an image that size from scratch to see if that gives me the error or not. I had been getting some help from that Livejournal community but that didn't get me very far. I've posed this same issue on two separate forums and have yet to receive any help. This is a very weird and very specific issue that I need help with.
Just so you know I'm running Windows Vista on my system.
Photoshop :: Soft Round Brush That Gets Larger While Painting
Aug 16, 2012I have been searching for a brush, preferably a soft round, that will grow in circumference as I paint a straight line.
i.e. : a brush that starts at say 15px then changes to (e.g.) 18px then 21px, 24px, 27px so on and so forth (And I mean one that will do this without having to stop and change the px size manually).
I tried the brush settings where one can change the angle, roundness, px size etc. but there doesn't seem to be a setting that'll provide what I'm trying to achieve.
I've been Google'n for the last 45+ minutes without any luck. Founds lots of other really nice brushes & btw, if a brush says that it's for Photoshop Cs4 do you know if that means I cannot use it for Cs6? Just wondering.
So, if you already have such a brush would you be willing and/or able to share, or if you know how I can make one myself, that would (also) be great.
PS. If making a brush is difficult to explain just tell me and I will find a tutorial online. I don't mean to ask you to do my homework.

Mar 26, 2013This is about Brush sizes. Here is an example. If I select the Paintbrush tool and select a size of 300 pixels and 100% hardness. The "Circle" that represents the brush is approximately 600 pixels in diameter. Almost twice the size of the actual colour that I want to apply. It makes it very difficult to be precise. Is this a glitch or is there a setting somewhere that I can't find.

Aug 30, 2012So, I was photographing the moon tonight and shooting in my usual format - RAW. I took the photos into Lightroom and selected the one I liked best. After tweaking the contrast and clarity a little, I decided that I wanted to change around where the moon way positioned - in a way crop wouldn't allow. So I turned to "edit-in" and then selected Photoshop CS6 from the options. All was fine, Photoshop appeared and I began editing. I decided that I wanted to place my moon in a completely different location, so to do this I decided I'd select the area around the moon, copy it, paint over it, then paste the moon back onto a new layer and paste it exactly where I wanted it. I think this is why I'm having issues. All was well and it was time to save. I hit save...suddenly it was taken ages to save. I'm talking at least 2 minutes of save time. Realising that was odd, I decided to check out how big the new file was...nearly 1GB big as a TIFF.
I don't like saving my photos as anything other than TIFFs, but I don't have unlimited storage space.
Why was this file so huge after editing in Photoshop, how do I avoid it/what did I do wrong?
GIMP :: Create Smaller BMP From Larger JPG
Oct 22, 2013I have a jpg file from which I need to crop a 128x128 section and create a bmp file from it.
I've cropped the image and copied it into a new file. But when I go to save it (as .xcf), I see my smaller image but it is centered within a gray border that is the size of my original image. I want just the 128x128 part and nothing extra.
I've attached a screen shot to show what I am dealing with.

Feb 12, 2014I'm having a problem changing brush settings back to basic, having pencil tool selected. Still I can draw basic line after I've clicked basic, but the line selection doesn't show. That occured after I chose the brush to be "Charcoal pencil". I still can change the brush to be anything else from the library (like different kind of calligraphics, inked, decorative brushed, even image brushed) but not back to basic. The width-settings are to uniform.

I have that done, but how do I get rid of the checkerboard pattern, it's difficult to work with it in the way. Also, both images move together, how do I stop that from happening?

Jul 5, 2012I'm using a tablet with gimp and I want to be able to set the brush size for the paint brush and also for the eraser, separately. What happens now is that I'll set the paintbrush size to 10px, paint for a little while, turn the pen over to erase and the eraser will now be at 10px. So I'll adjust the eraser size to something like 50px, erase, turn over, and now the paintbrush is at 50px. Grrrrrrr... I tried creating new brushes for both the paintbrush and the eraser, but there's no brush size option. This is my first time using gimp so I'm probably missing something.

Apr 26, 2011I've received several scanned images from another party in .jpg format. The file sizes of some run about 100k and others about 300k.
When I looked at the image properties they were almost the same for each of them. All of them had a resolution of 96x96 and each having around 40,000 pixels (roughly 500X800 pixel images). The print sizes were all about 5.5x8.5 inches.
Why would .jpg images with similar pixel resolution and number have such different file sizes?
GIMP :: Gradient In Blend Box Below Toolbox - Save In Larger Size
Apr 17, 2011First I pick out a foreground color, then a bg color. Now there is already a nice gradient in the blend box below the toolbox. Is there any way I can just save that? It's all I really need but in a larger size. I could just take a screen shot of it and then edit that with Gimp, but it seems like there must be a way of doing that within gimp.

Jan 11, 2014How to use a photo behind cut out text and everything was going fine until I tried to add text and change the color. The text is invisible even though I changed the color to white and the box resized itself really small and I can't see anything even though I set it to 150 px.
Try to unchecking the 'dynamic text' button but I don't see this button anywhere in my text tab.
I have never been able to successfully use GIMP for anything because of this problem with adding text. I have had 2 versions, Windows and Linux. Right now I am using it with Pangolin.
