For some reason My MyPaint has not been opening up. I tried to dis-install it and then re install it but alas it came to nothing. Why it stopped working, it was working fine and just randomly stopped and would not open.
I have a folder of about 3000 images to edit and they're all in EPS format. Not having Photo Shop on my computer, I turned to GIMP.
I located several sources on the internet, all calling for the installation of Ghost Scripts. After trying and failing, I did some more poking around and found that some users were having trouble with opening EPS files in the current version of GIMP, and solved the issue by installing a previous version.
Before I start flailing around with various versions, I figured it would be best to find a place where experts reside.
I dowloaded Gimp 2.8, but the tool box is not on the opening screen. In fact, no windows are showing. I went through a couple of tutorials on the dockable windows. But I still don't see where the tool box window is. I see tool options and tool presets, but I don't see too box. How to get the default screen with the tool box to show up? It's my first time using Gimp. I accidentally downloaded 2.6 and noticed it did have the correct windows open. But I want to learn Gimp on 2.8.
I have created a psd file with GIMP (version 2.6.11) which I have created myself, opened and saved several times.
Today I try to continue my work on this file and I got error 17718 when trying to open the file. I have never opened this file with another application than GIMP.
- How can I prevent it from happening again?- Most importantly: How can I repair the file, so that my work is not lost?
I've tried every smarty solution to get Gimp to open EPS files with ghostscript installed.
Nothing works. I'm on Windows 7 and have looked at some of the solutions on this forum. No luck. I'm wondering why Gimp has had such a long history with this problem.
I've installed GIMP 2.8 on Windows XP. It was working fine till yesterday. It is crashing within 3-5 minutes of opening an image and when working on the image.I get run time error.
I've been editing a whole lot of pictures lately for online listings. Suddenly ctrl-z is no longer my "undo" shortcut. When I use it now, I get "configure grid".
Clearly I've changed my shortcuts. I have no idea how. What I need to do is figure out how to fix it, so I can have ctrl-z be Undo again.
I created an image in gimp and flattened it before saving. I now want to edit some of the text in that image, but when I open in Gimp "As Layers" or just open it, it does not open in three different layers, like I had before flattening it. Am I doing something wrong. I saved it as a jpg file after flattening it.
I have GIMP 2.6 installed under Windows xp. When I try to open an .eps file, I get this error:
Error starting Ghostscript. Make sure that Ghostscript is installed and - if necessary - use the environment variable GS_PROG to tell GIMP about its location.
(Failed to execute child process (No such file or directory))
I then downloaded Ghostscript and went thru its regular Windows installation routine. I get the same error in GIMP trying to open an .eps file. How to set the variable GS_PROG and can't find instructions for this variable in the on-line GIMP manual.
Whenever I open an image in Gimp, it's just a little off colour. Then when I save it as an image file (usually png), it's even more off colour than what's displayed in Gimp. For example, if the image starts out with a grey background of 808080 (RGB Hex Value, 16-bit), in Gimp it's 7F7F7F, and when I save as a png, it's 6E6E6E (honestly, how does that make sense under any circumstances?). I've tried every combination of settings under colour management, to no avail. Once, I managed to get Gimp to display the correct colour, but when I saved it as a gimp file, and re-opened it, it was wrong again.
A couple of times I was able to successfully open RAW (Canon CR2) files as layers to stitch together, but now when I try to open a RAW file I get error messages.
GIMP 2.6.10-1 on Debian 6 does not open JPEG files recently written by itself. The program freezes and the only way out is to reboot. Older JPEG files are opened as usual, and the problem files can be opened in Digikam and Fotoxx. A sample problem file is attached.
I have recently switched from GIMP 2.2 to GIMP 2.8. I'm using Linux (Mageia 3)
With 2.2, if I ran the GIMP from the command line, when I did File-> Open the file browser would open in the same directory that I had started the GIMP from.
With 2.8 the file browser opens in "Recently Used" and I have to navigate to the directory I want. Is there any way to make it open in the current directory instead?
I often use photoshop to open binary flat files, either 8 or 16 bit depth. In photoshop if I select open using photoshop raw format, a dialog box pops up asking what the image dimensions are (ie, 512x512), the number of channels (ie 1), the bit depth and the byte order. Is there any way to do this in GIMP, either native or with plugins... I dont think that the UFRaw will work as these files do not come from a camera-- they are images of satellite imagery that are just binary flat files.
I'm quite a newbie at image editing, I only use The Gimp to resize pictures and to do similar "simple" tasks. For a few times now, and more systematically since the last update, The Gimp crashes while opening high-res images (at least 1000x1000 px).
ex. [URL] ......
Although I can randomly succeed in opening this kind of files, I always have to retry several times.
I'm using it in Windows 7 Pro SP1, installed the latest version for Windows 2.8.4 (in French).
Note: I found a rather similar thread here: [URL] ..... but the guy uses The Gimp on Mac OS X while I have Win7.
I am new to gimp and after using the program yesterday afternoon I went in to do some more work on the document and got the following error message: "Error loading PSD file: Unsupported Compression Mode: Error #43775. How to get this file opened? I was Opening As Layers.
I've been trying to replicate the problem, but it appears to be intermittent. It happens on multiple computers, we're using 2.8.4 on Windows 8 at the moment.
Scenario: GIMP is open with multiple files.
Browse a folder in explorer and select OPEN WITH GIMP or just OPEN. And a GIMP startup splash screen appears and reloads the GIMP application automatically closing and losing any work that was in progress on the prior GIMP screens.
way of opening images in CS2 where after opening they will appear in the middle of the CS screen rather then in the top left corner?
I can drag and maximize so they appear in the middle, but on reopening another image they default to the top left again, I would like them to always open in the middle?
I have checked the road map for GIMP and I have seen that the Unified transform tool can be expected in version 3.8. (ugh)
Now what I would like to ask is there any tool or plugin for GIMP that can transform my selections? Or is there any open source image editor that can do it.
I'm not an artist and just for this I have to use Photoshop. For me PS is an overkill for just cutting up an image.
I have just purchased a Nikon D600 and have CS5.1 and find that it will not open raw images. Is there a solution or anticipated download for these purchasers?
I recenlty got a new computer and loaded my adobe cloud onto it. The first few times it worked fine but today it only minimizes into the lower tool bar and never opens. It won't even let me max it it's just the main splash screen minimized. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it's not working.
I can open RAW files at work on CS3 that has my olympus softwear on the computer, but I can not open at home in CS3. get message (can not open this type of file ) Do I have to have the olympus factory softwear installed to open olympus RAW files ?
I have a pdf file that was created with Illustrator and that is supposed to show all the design layers. However, I am not able to see the layers when I open it with CS3 because it automatically rasterizes the file before opening it. Is there a a way to make it open teh file without rasterizing it?
I have photoshop 7.0 and i use it often but a week ago everytime i would open photoshop it would load the fonts/brushes/etc. But after its done loading it just shuts off without giving me an error message.

LR will not open PS6 on same drive. Wants to open backup copy. when backup copy is off line it will not open at all just keeps making a copy of the image that I want to edit. Link between LR and PS6 seems to broken so how do I fix it? Yes, it does ask to fix link. I just don't which copy of PS it is linking to when it asks. Backup copy or main copy on home drive.
