I've been editing a whole lot of pictures lately for online listings. Suddenly ctrl-z is no longer my "undo" shortcut. When I use it now, I get "configure grid".
Clearly I've changed my shortcuts. I have no idea how. What I need to do is figure out how to fix it, so I can have ctrl-z be Undo again.
I need to do some shading work in Gimp, and for this it would be very nice to have a quick way to change my brush size. Luckily there's a note in the gimp docs on how to program the mouse wheel to do this:

My laptop only has a touchpad with a little scroll area on the side, but I can't think of a good reason why this should be any different from a scroll wheel on a real mouse. Unfortunately, though, following the documentation doesn't work.
In fact, as far as I can tell, the input controllers dialog does nothing at all on my system--I've looked at the settings for the all of the 'active controllers,' and none of the current settings there match with the actual behavior of Gimp as far as I can tell. It also worries me that the controller names are so generic--they're listed as 'Main Keyboard' and 'Main Mouse Wheel' rather than mentioning a synaptics touchpad, and my tablet doesn't even seem to be listed.
I am using Gimp 2.6.11 on Ubuntu.
I used to be able to use the shortcut of ctrl + scrollwheel to zoom around on the image I'm working on. Now I can't get this shortcut to work for me anymore. I tried reinstalling GIMP 2.8.4 with no luck.
View 10 Replies View Relatedas the place I work at recently upgraded their PS version to CS6 and basically rendered my Intuos 4 completely useless because of the damn Alt/Ctrl modifier, which seems to control the "drag to create a copy of the layer function" regardless of the tool you're using.
It might be specific for my region, but Alt+Ctrl or Alt Gr modifer is used in order to reach certain keystokes, such as ], [, @, so when by default the brush size function on my wacom is linked to a "[" (alt+ctrl+f windows function), my tablet completely flips out and starts sending a mix of Alt, Ctrl and Alt + Ctrl function controls instead of the [ which I'm trying to use.
Alt + w/e functions work just fine, but I can't use any modifer using the alt+ctrl+w/e combo that involves creating a symbol, even while using the keyboard. For example, I can use the alt+ctrl+z command to undo something, but if I linked my brush tool to a "§", which is invoked by calling the alt+ctrl+m windows command, it will act as a normal ctrl + m command and open the curves window.
I was thinking of something like photoshop can do. Have like a 32x32 pixel grid, then within that 32x32 square a 1x1 pixel grid show up? Of course a different lin maybe dotted?

When in brush mode, clicking "ctrl" switchs to color picker until yourelease. Is this shortcut editable? What if I want this to be set onAlt instead, for instance?

i dont what to calculate the right spacing on each grid cell as the grid filter gives me i just what GIMP to calculate me the right spacing for this image and grip line width.

Basically what I would like to do is take a background image, put a grid on it, and fill the squares in the grid with custom (not random) colors. Every spot on the grid will have a fill color.
I was thinking that I would use Excel to create a comma delimited file with each cell containing the correct color, and I want to know if there's a way for GIMP to read a hex value, color the square of the grid corresponding to the hex value, then move on to the next square.
When I need to rotate an image a few degrees a grid is displayed over the image, as a guide. However, the grid also rotates, making it a somewhat useless feature.
View 3 Replies View RelatedOne of the purposes I want to use GIMP for are in scaling the dimensions of objects like musical instruments or sculpture, to create a construction plan. If I have an undistorted photo of, say, a guitar, and I know at least one dimension in the photo, I can SHOW and CONFIGURE GRID to get a "1 square = 1 inch" reference and extrapolate the remainder of the dimensions.
What I need to be able to do is include the grid in a saved/rendered photo file, which GIMP doesn't seem to want to do. The grid appears to be virtual, and disappears when layers are flattened out and the image is exported.
Is there a way to do this, or do I need to generate a standalone grid as a transparent layer and include that in my merge? If so, how do I go about generating a grid layer without having to hand-draw one?
I'd like to use a grid to snap a lot(!) of small images into a larger(!) one. That works alright.
Problem: the large image has places the small images need to be snapped into, but they are not spaced an integer number of pixels apart. So the grid slowly wanders off the places as I move over the sheet. The places are 127.5 pixels apart (alternately 127 and 128, I guess). I cannot scale the image up, because the image is already 2.7 GB in size and my computer cannot handle the quadrupled size.
Is there a way to make GIMP accept a non-integer width for grid spacing?
It is absolutely ok if GIMP alternately places the grid lines a pixel shorter and a pixel longer.
Edit: I'm using GIMP 2.6.11, could install another version.

Yet when I choose View / Show Grid I get lines spaced on 10 x 10 intervals.

When using the rotate option in transform tools a very annoying grid pops up. This has never occurred before. It appears to be useless as it rotates with the image. How can I remove it?
That option seems to cause the corners to snap to some other points which aren't the grid, and making vertical lines impossible.
Is there a way to make it use the grid just like how the rectangle select tool does?
After filling the inside of a line drawing, (cartoon "shape"), I'm left with the checkerboard pattern that indicates transparency. I'd just like to get rid of that checkerboard pattern so I can view my drawing the way it really looks! Can this be done in GIMP?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI used the layout wizard to configure 2 vertical viewports as instructed in the manual. Next I try to paste an object in one viewport at a scale of 1:20, engineering imperial. The object appears in both viewports in model space. I only want the object in one viewport and I cannot erase the object in the other viewport, since they both dissappear. I also cannot draw a line in one viewport without it appearing in the second viewport. If I switch one viewport to current paper space the line can be drawn but I want each viewport to be at a different scale. Is there some way around this? Is my AutoCAD LT program capable of doing this?

I just added the materials libraries and maps from older versions of 3ds max 2011, since 2012 came with very few libraries. Is there any way to configure 3ds max so all student users can see these new paths correctly without having them to each go to customize, configure user paths? View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been having trouble w/ unresolved file names so I dinked around with the "Configure User Paths" dialogue. I made changes to all the entries so that backburner could see for net rendering. Boy i shouldnt have done that. Now My Mxp files are being saved in the specified project folders but all the subfolders are missing. I have gone back to the fore mentioned dialogue and changed all the paths back to relative. This still hasnt fixed the issue. Is there any way to set this dialogue back to "Factory Defualt"

I located several sources on the internet, all calling for the installation of Ghost Scripts. After trying and failing, I did some more poking around and found that some users were having trouble with opening EPS files in the current version of GIMP, and solved the issue by installing a previous version.
Before I start flailing around with various versions, I figured it would be best to find a place where experts reside.
I need to create a map from an 90-degree overhead view (looking straight down at the land). I have an image of a tree (viewed from above) and I would like to add hundreds of copies of the tree to the map in an organic fashion.
Is there anyway to configure the pattern stamp tool like I can configure the brush so that the tree image gets sprayed on to the map randomly with multiple copies at once? Is there anyway to define a brush preset that contains the colors of the tree image I would like to use?
